Steve, it's only the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, et al.) that drives on the wrong side of the road with the driver in the wrong side of the car. Outside of Europe, all the former British colonies unfortunately adopted the bad habit. As did Japan.
What's keeping the European Fords from coming to America? One, stupidity on the part of Ford NA. Two, probably a case of Not Invented Here syndrome. Three, sometimes great differences in the rules and regulations between Europe and America: emissions, safety, etc.
