I wish I was the President and CEO of Ford Motor Co. The first thing I would do would be to add a division of small/compact, affordable cars similar to GM's Saturn and Toyota's Scion division. Ford's lowest cost vehicle is the Focus which when you go to a dealership and look at the sticker price its over 17k. Ford already has some fuel efficient vehicles in its European division (KA) and I don't understand why they don't redesign a version for the American market. I think Ford desperately needs a car in the $13k range. Also, I would add a deisel motor option to all of the larger SUV's and Trucks including the Explorer, Expedition and F150. I would encourage dealers to suggest to potential buyers that they check autoblogs on Edmunds.com for consumer opinions on their experiences with their new Ford vehicle purchase (I've noticed most of Ford's consumer opinions are very high).
Next, I would revive the Bronco name but I would base it on the 1972 version (check EBAY Motors for older models) but modify it to meet current safety standards. The Bronco would look as simple as it did in 1972 but provide a low cost, no frills 4x4 option for those that don't want to pay for all the high tech gadgets that most new models have.
Another thing I would do is buy Consumer Union (the company that owns Consumer Reports magazine) This company is partial to the japanese cars and always has been. I don't think their opinions match those that you see on the autoblogs (Edmunds) of actual owners experiences. A lot of people base their purchases on so-called expert opinions from Consumer Reports magazines and I would put an end to their negative feedback of Ford vehicles.
Finally, I would not even consider selling Volvo. Volvo cars have a good reputation and I feel they would sell better if they had more dealerships. Why not add some Volvo cars at Ford dealerships? This would expand inventory and give the buyers more options... I like to be creative and I hope Ford starts to realize that buyers need more of a reason to visit a Ford dealer than they currently have.
