Review: 2009 Nissan Cube S is unbalanced, in a good way

One of our favorite cars last year was a cream-colored, Japanese Domestic Market (JDM), second-generation Nissan Cube that the Japanese automaker loaned us for a few days of commuting and assorted daily driving duties. It was a fantastic car, with excellent styling, the ingenious e-4WD system, a practical interior, and – bless its heart – a front bench seat. Nissan was passing around the keys because it wanted to build up buzz for the arrival of the third-generation Cube, which would break free of the right-hand-drive market prison to which its predecessors were restricted.... Review: 2008 Nissan Cube JDM-Spec
    1212537420

You know that you have a disorder when you're as enthused about an econobox as you are to get seat time in something like a Rolls or Bentley. But that's me, and that's how I felt when I got the call at my desk telling me that my new media ride was downstairs waiting for me. I quietly walked out to the stairwell and then, when the door shut behind me, I ...

More Nissan leakage: Cube image surfaces, still boxy, still cool
    1210854480

We already know that the Nissan Cube is due for a redesign, and that version, due out later this year, is the one we'll be getting here in the States in 2009. While the Denki Cube concept that bowed in New York gave us an indication of what to expect, it's taken another bit of leakage out of Nissan HQ to see the new Cube fully realized. Compared to the ...

Inside Line pokes fun at the Nissan Cube
    1203628920

PHOTO: Scott Jacobs / INSIDE LINEIt had to happen, given the fundamental laws of nature governing rivalries: Inside Line has done a playful side-by-side comparison of the Nissan Cube and the Scion xB. JDM-spec Cube did not fare exactly well against the US-market Scion (which it won't compete directly against, anyway). The Nissan's 1.4L four is perfectly ...

Nissan confirms the "Cube," a 37 MPG, hybrid, Scion-look-a-like, is coming to the US

Shiro Nakamura, Nissan's global design director says "the Cube is coming to the U.S. market." The Cube gets 37 MPG and has something called e-4WD, which includes an electric motor that kicks in when you need it. The Cube is already out in Japan (see wacky Japanese commercial below the fold) and there were rumors it might come to the U.S. Now that it's ...

Now it seems that folks in the U.S. who are looking for an economical vehicle that doesn't sacrifice storage space will soon be getting yet another option. Nissan has admitted that the rumors are true, the Cube will finally be offered in the United States market and it won't be the spawn of a new company brand either. The question is why did Nissan take so ...

Since the success of the Scion xB in North America, many people have been waiting for the vehicle that originated the boxy craze, the Nissan Cube, to hit this continent. Nissan says the Cube will not be targeting the xB
    1181223240

The Nissan Cube and Scion xB may both look like the boxes they came in, but Nissan doesn't expect their car to compete directly with the larger Scion when it arrives in the United States in early 2009. Nissan vice president of product planning Larry Dominique expects the market for the Cube to be more balanced between male and female buyers than the xB, a ...

Nissan looking to lighten the Cube for U.S. consumption

Streamlining a box is a difficult proposition. Just ask Volvo-- it took them decades to wean their stylists off of a steady diet of t-squares. But with Nissan's diminutive little Cube, boxy is the point. And while the square peg in a round marketplace ethos is a boon when it comes to interior packaging, it's lousy for aerodynamic efficiency, sapping ...
