Mercedes-Benz is one of, if not the, oldest surviving automakers in the world. Founded in 1881, the first Mercedes automobile was created in 1886. The German company is now operated by Daimler-Benz and headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany. In addition to producing automobiles, Mercedes-Benz also makes commercial trucks and buses in Europe.

UPDATE: Autoblog has received confirmation on US availability of the new CLS-Class. The text below has been revised accordingly. A lot has changed since Mercedes-Benz busted open the four-door coupe segment with the introduction of the original CLS-Class back in 2004, with every competitor keen to copy the Silver Star formula with chopped-down sedans (or ...
Mercedes-Benz can't seem to help itself from leaking out information about the upcoming AMG GT sports coupe, but this is one seriously big drop of news. We already know what its sounds like, but a new video reveals a ton of juicy technical details about its twin-turbocharged, 4.0-liter V8 called the M178, including its power and torque figures. Mercedes ...
Cars and rock and roll have gone together since the early days. Whether it's Hot Rod Lincoln, G.T.O or a bunch of songs by The Beach Boys, auto enthusiasts were instrumental to the history of the genre. Photography has played a huge role in our hobby as well. Think of the number of cars you know about but only ever see in pictures. A company called Couch ...
The creations that come from Dartz Motorz almost defy explanation. The company is known for modifying SUVs with so much over-the-top luxury that they seem unreal. For example, its last project was a Mercedes G63 AMG 6x6 with gold wheels and a portable smoking room. The company's latest foray into automotive insanity is another take on the G63 6x6 called ...
Think the only challengers for the title of best-selling luxury brand hail from der Vaterland? Wrong. Lexus outsold the likes of Mercedes-Benz for the second time in 2014 last month. In fact, the Japanese luxury marque's total sales this year are a mere 12,000 units behind BMW. Lexus was able to move 26,921 vehicles last month, a year-over-year increase ...
The truth is, we talk a lot about how great a Mercedes-Benz S-Class or a Bentley Mulsanne or a Rolls-Royce Phantom would be for a cross-country drive mainly because they're far, far sexier than the real kings of the long-distance haul: vans. Yes, whether it's as simple as a minivan or something more elaborate, like a conversion van, these box-shaped ...
Crossovers are hugely popular at the moment. It didn't take long for automakers to realize that buyers would pay extra for premium versions of the little 'utes, and Mercedes-Benz recently jumped into the market in Europe with the GLA-Class (that'll be heading Stateside shortly). The Mercedes specialist tuners at Brabus are now welcoming it into the lineup ...
Toyota might be leaving Southern California, but Mercedes-Benz is doubling-down on the region with a newly announced, 1.1 million-square-foot West Coast Campus in Long Beach, CA. It combines three currently separate divisions of the company into one place to increase overall efficiency. Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster and Mercedes Vice President of Sales ...
Mercedes-Benz is back testing its new MLC, the lifted, 'four-door coupe' crossover that will challenge the BMW X6 for the title of least utile utility vehicle. We've already shown you exterior images, along with a peak at the AMG variant and now, we have our first look at the new Benz's cabin. The interior looks like pretty standard fare for Mercedes. ...
More details about Mercedes-Benz's forthcoming Mercedes-AMG GT continue to drip out. As opposed to launching the new sports coupe all at once, the brand has been slowly divulging information like its interior and some shadowy peeks on video. Even in testing, Mercedes is being cheeky by dressing it in bright green, tiger-striped camouflage that's hard to ...
Mercedes-Benz has released its first advertisement for the S63 AMG Coupe, and well, it's a bit weird. It shows the S63 blazing along a runway, accompanied by the throbbing sound of its 5.5-liter, twin-turbocharged V8. All told, the imagery is pretty standard, showing the car from inside and out in a pretty, highly stylized manner. What's strange, though, ...
There is always something a little grotesque when traditionally animated characters are brought into the real world. For example, something about seeing Mickey walk around Disney World just doesn't look quite right, and Nintendo is proving the rule with its latest cross promotion involving Mario and the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class. In Japan, Mario is ...
There was a rumor back in April that Mercedes-Benz was busy developing a C450 model that would sit in between the current top-shelf C-Class, the C400, and the coming-soon C63 AMG. It appears that is entirely the case, and our spy shooters have the photos to prove it, showing off the newest model with no camouflage (in fetching Touring guise, no ...
In 1932 the international motorsport oversight body did what many Formula One fans wish the FIA would do today: declared that from 1934 there would be no restriction on Grand Prix racecar design beyond having a maximum weight of 750 kilograms (1,650 pounds). That led Mercedes-Benz to develop the Silberpfeil, the racer that began the Silver Arrows legend, ...
Five-plus years may have been about enough time for Daimler AG to know whether it wanted to be in the battery-pack production business. The Mercedes-Benz parent may stop making electric-vehicle batteries and ultimately sell its Li-Tec battery-cell factory in Germany within two years, according to Bloomberg News which cites Manager Magazin. The beneficiary ...
Mercedes-AMG Petronas' success in the 2014 Formula One season hasn't just been down to an alleged technological edge, but thanks to not just one dominant driver, but two. Lewis Hamilton's partner, Nico Rosberg (pictured above, right, with teammate Lewis Hamilton) has been arguably his biggest competition in this still-young F1 season, sitting a mere three ...
The Mercedes-Benz C-Class isn't on sale in the US yet, and there are already rumors of even more variants for the platform on the way. Mercedes is reportedly working on a four-door coupe model of its executive sedan with styling derived from the CLS-Class four-door coupe, in an effort take on the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe. Mercedes' research and ...
Mercedes-Benz has been profiting mightily from compact cars recently. Its Kecskemét, Hungary, factory added a third shift to keep up with demand, and company's US arm called the CLA-Class, its "best launch in 20 years." However, Daimler boss Dieter Zetsche says the Mercedes brand won't be getting any smaller, subcompact models; they will be ...
Will the Estate come to America? It's not a yes, but it's not a no. Meet the new, more versatile cousin of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Called the C-Class Estate, this long-roof version of the upcoming compact sport luxury sedan carries on the long line of C-Class wagons that have graced European roads. The C-Class Estate is notable not just for its ...
Regardless of what you think of his skill as a racer, Ken Block is an expert showman. At this point, he has a career of showing up around the world to do vehicular stunts, and he's still able to go racing as well. It's a pretty sweet niche to carve out. Recently, Block was in Barbados to participate in Top Gear Live and the first event of the Global ...
