Daimler, Renault talking about large van joint venture
Daimler and Renault officially joined hands in April 2010. Since then, Nissan has agreed to build engines for the Germans, Daimler is expected to construct a plant near the Nissan plant in Mexico, the Smart ForFour and Renault Twingo will share platforms and electric siblings and the same Renault manufacturing facility, and Mercedes is supposedly considering a Renault-based X-Class vehicle to slot between Smart and the A-Class. Not bad for less than three years' work. But wait, there's more. According to a report in Automotive News, the two firms are talking about developing a large ... Read More

Here in North America we know Mercedes-Benz as purveyors of luxury automobiles. But overseas, the Silver Star is known just as much for its commercial trucks. Mercedes to bring Bluetec diesel to European-market Sprinters by 2012, but we get it first! 1271767200
Usually, the U.S. gets breakthrough technology or vehicles after the rest of the world has had time to play with it for awhile. Usually, Europe or Japan gets something great, we write about how good they have it and years later (if we're lucky) it comes our way. It's a rarity when we get something first and the rest of the world waits. But, such is the ...

Daimler to make 16-passenger diesel Sprinter van, a carpoolers dream machine 1271105880
If you've ever wondered why so few automakers offer vehicles with space to cram in 15 of your closest friends for a cross-country trip, you're probably the only one. Still, Daimler has heard the thoughts of those who think the current Sprinter lineup is just not quite big enough. How does seating for 16 sound? Crazy at first, for sure, but the ...

Last year, there were 350 dealers selling Sprinters, but the signs in front of those dealerships had the word "Dodge" on them. Will Chrysler get Fiat Ducato or Iveco Daily to replace departing Sprinter? 1252414740
Easy come, easy go – that's apparently Chrysler's luck with repurposed European-market work trucks. For the last few years, Chrysler has offered the German-designed Sprinter van under the Dodge nameplate. Mercedes-Benz wants its rig back, so it's taking the well-regarded work vehicle out of Pentastar dealerships and anointing about 120 of its own ...

REPORT: Dodge Sprinter sales to cease as Mercedes opts to sell model itself with new diesel 1251903420
As much as Daimler has been hating on Chrysler lately, one would think that the Pentastar was the cold-hearted deviant who stuck a knife into the heart of the German automaker. The "Merger of Equals" turned out to be a bum deal for Chrysler, but at least it was able to procure some hardware from its German ex. Some parts of the LX platform that underpins ...
