0REPORT: GM's next-gen SUVs to be body-on-frame (otherwise they'd be crossovers) 1259078460
The GMT900 platform is by far the highest volume chassis General Motors has here in the States, as it underpins the Chevrolet Silverado, Tahoe, Avalanche and Suburban, the Cadillac Escalade/Escalade ESV, and the GMC Sierra, Yukon and Yukon XL. We never had any doubt that GM would continue to build body-on-frame trucks in the future, but with demand for ...

Whither Suburbia? Virginia all but outlaws cul-de-sac construction in face of traffic costs 1237937340
Virginia lawmakers are taking a metaphorical battering ram to suburban culs-de-sac, those little dead-end roundabouts that are almost all adorned with a yellow sign saying "No Outlet." Caught out by spiraling maintenance and development costs, the Washington Post reports that legislators are now mandating that the state will only maintain new subdivision ...

We reported last month that General Motors could move the next Cadillac Escalade to its Lambda platform that's currently used by the Saturn Outlook, GMC Acadia, Buick Enclave and Chevy Traverse, and now GM Inside News is reporting via an inside source that the Suburban/Yukon XL may also get the unibody treatment. Suburbal Sprawl is only good in podcast form 1209230940
We can green up cars all we want, it's still going to require a lot of energy to move heavy vehicles down the street. Also, driving all the time feeds into a certain kind of life. While many places in the U.S. have been built in such a way that they require driving as a part of everyday life, not everyone is in favor of such a lifestyle. One of them is ...

Review: 2008 Toyota Sequoia Limited 1204916220
Gigantor. The 2008 Toyota Sequoia arrives humongously revised from the already beefy first-generation. The Timberland Mica (Metallic Green) example that Toyota lent us for a week definitely deserves whatever size-related superlatives you can dream up. It's big, it's powerful, it doesn't sip fuel. There is a need and a market for this type of vehicle, ...

Be like Tony Soprano. Drive his truck. 1185566520
Click image for photo gallery var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/television/Be_like_Tony_Soprano_Drive_his_truck'; Long before Tony Soprano rolled in his Escalade, a red Suburban was his ride of choice. Fans of The Sporanos will remember it very well, of course, and as the truck Tony drives in the opening credits, it lived on even after he traded up to the ...

Minivans: not just for Soccer-Moms 1183986180
My uncle's motoring choice has always had me a little puzzled. He's got a garage full of Mercedes, Range Rovers, Hummers and a Magnum PI-style Ferrari 308 GTS that he never drives. What does he drive instead? A Chrysler minivan. Chances are you know somebody like that, too. Over at the Kicking Tires blog, the Suburban Dad makes some sense of it all. With ...
