The latest such rumor comes by way of Japanese magazine <em>Best Car</em> (via JDM-centric website <a href="http://www.7tune.com/rx-7-concept-may-appear-at-tokyo-motor-show/">7Tune.com</a>), which indicates the new sportscar has a 55% chance of making an appearance at the upcoming <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/TokyoMotorShow/">Tokyo Motor Show</a> in October.<br /><br />We understand that Mazda's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/22/is-the-next-mazda-renesis-rotary-set-to-get-direct-injection/">continual development of its rotary engine technology</a> is likely to bring a displacement boost from 1.3- to 1.6-liters for the next RX model - whatever and whenever that may be - along with the seemingly contradictory qualities of more power, cleaner emissions and lower fuel consumption.<br /><br />Naturally, <em>Best Car</em> provides a rendering of the supposed RX-7 to go along with the speculation of an October debut. Drawing inspiration from the expressive styling language from <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/11/15/mazda-will-unveil-nagare-concept-in-l-a/">Mazda's recent concept cars</a> along with a hearty dose of the happy-go-lucky expression of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/13/first-drive-2010-mazda3-more-grins-inside-and-out/">current Mazda3</a>. We'll see if there's any truth to this report in, oh, about three months.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.7tune.com/rx-7-concept-may-appear-at-tokyo-motor-show/">7Tune.com</a> | Image: Best Car]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/08/mazda-rx-7-concept-headed-to-tokyo-motor-show/">Rumormill: Mazda RX-7 concept headed to Tokyo Motor Show?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 08 Jul 2009 13:28:00 EST. Japan's <em>Best Car</em> magazine is apparently reporting that the little car will definitely be revealed in Japan. The news makes some sense, as this year's show will be well <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/23/report-more-foreign-automakers-skipping-tokyo-motor-show-as-tal/">down on foreign automaker participation</a>, so it's reasonable that local makers will want to take advantage of the dedicated attention to their wares. <br /><br />Assuming the Toyobaru does show up, it will supposedly sit alongside the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/27/tokyo-preview-550-hp-218-mph-lexus-lf-a-coming-this-year/">production Lexus LF-A</a> and the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/22/report-toyotas-hybrid-supra-successor-on-track-for-2011/">hybrid 2011 Toyota Supra concept</a>. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Toyota FT-HS Concept - Click above for a high-res image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />With all the rumors and anticipation surrounding Toyota's joint venture with Subaru to produce a front-engine, rear-wheel drive coupe, the automaker's Supra successor has been put on the news cycle's back-burner. However, according to a report by <em>Best Car</em>, development has continued in earnest since the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/11/detroit-auto-show-toyotas-ft-hs-concept-in-the-flesh/">FT-HS Hybrid Sports Car Concept</a> debuted at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/DetroitAutoShow/">Detroit Auto Show</a> in 2007 and a prototype will supposedly begin making the rounds later this year.<br /><br />Although the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/05/09/toyota-ft-hs-coming-in-2009/">FT-HS was originally due to arrive in 2009</a>, the Toyobaru's parallel development and market conditions have pushed back the introduction of a Supra-successor until 2011. When it hits, expect two versions to be available: a traditional gas-powered model, likely fitted with a 3.5-liter V6, and a hybrid "Sports" variant packing the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/GS450h/">GS450h</a>'s 2GR-VSE 3.5-liter V6 mated to the JDM Crown Hybrid's electric drive system and cranking out around 400 hp to the rear wheels. If <em>Best Car</em>'s report is to be believed, we could see the next iteration of the FT-HS concept at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/TokyoMotorShow/">Tokyo Motor Show</a> this November, with the production model debuting sometime in 2010 before its on-sale date the following year.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/toyota-ft-hs-concept/">Toyota FT-HS Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/toyota-ft-hs-concept/131980/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/toyota-ft-hs_naias---09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/toyota-ft-hs-concept/131979/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/toyota-ft-hs_naias---14_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/toyota-ft-hs-concept/131978/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/toyota-ft-hs_naias---11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/toyota-ft-hs-concept/131977/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/toyota-ft-hs_naias---02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/toyota-ft-hs-concept/131976/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/toyota-ft-hs_naias---15_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Best Car via <a href="http://www.7tune.com/2011-hybrid-supra-successor/">7Tune</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/22/report-toyotas-hybrid-supra-successor-on-track-for-2011/">REPORT: Toyota's hybrid Supra successor on track for 2011</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 22 Jun 2009 13:28:00 EST. The headlamps will continue to be stretched further over the fenders, while the taillights and bumper will be more smoothly integrated into the bulbous rump. We're hoping the most interesting element of the Essence - the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/infiniti-essence-concept/1398183/">curved, creased and indented C-pillar</a> - will make a successful transition from concept to production. Expect the Fuga to go on sale in Japan early next year, with the fully-redesigned Infiniti M to debut soon thereafter.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/infiniti-essence-concept/">Infiniti Essence Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/infiniti-essence-concept/2108578/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/essence-1280s_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/infiniti-essence-concept/1398156/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/01-infiniti-essence-press_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/infiniti-essence-concept/1398160/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/02-infiniti-essence-press_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/infiniti-essence-concept/1398161/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/03-infiniti-essence-press_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/infiniti-essence-concept/1398157/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/04-infiniti-essence-press_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Holiday Auto via <a href="http://www.7tune.com/new-nissan-fugainfiniti-m-spotted/">7Tune</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/19/report-next-nissan-fuga-to-debut-in-tokyo-foretells-infiniti-m/">REPORT: Next Nissan Fuga to debut in Tokyo, foretells Infiniti M's future</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 19 Jun 2009 11:26:00 EST. The rendering above hints at some of the lines that could make the cut on the production version of the "086A," but contrary to past reports, 7Tune's tipster says that the Toyota and Subaru versions won't be remarkably different - only the front grille, headlamps and taillights will be unique. The report goes on to say that Toyota is desperately trying to keep the price below the two million yen mark (a little over $20,000) and, coinciding with earlier rumors, Subaru is actively considering offering an STI version of the coupe.<br /><br />In a related story, ToMoCo's new president, Akio Toyoda - the exec who recently piloted the LF-A around the Green Hell during the 24 Hours of N&uuml;rburgring - told <em>Auto Motor und Sport</em>, "This sports culture, which we have neglected for so long, will again be maintained." Toyoda clearly wants to see the automaker back on the radar of enthusiasts and the first example of this newfound focus could find its way onto the stage at this year's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/TokyoMotorShow/">Tokyo Motor Show</a>.<br /><br />[Sources: <a href="http://www.7tune.com/i-saw-the-toyota-086a/">7Tune</a>, <a href="http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/news/toyota-bringt-neue-modelle-toyota-chef-toyoda-will-wieder-emotionalere-modelle-1213570.html">Auto Motor und Sport</a> via <a href="http://japanesenostalgiccar.com/blog/2009/06/16/new-toyota-prez-wants-to-revive-sports-car-heritage/">Japanese Nostalgia Car</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/17/rumormill-more-toyobaru-scuttlebutt-comes-to-the-surface/">Rumormill: More Toyobaru scuttlebutt comes to the surface</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 17 Jun 2009 19:31:00 EST. It's disappointing."<br /><br />And even though Japan's 14 domestic makers are expected to show in force, the country's four largest truck makers have said they won't be coming. As is customary from Honda, the Japanese, European and North American markets are all expected to get their own unique versions of the popular Civic, with Americans getting their preferred sedan and coupe bodystyles and the other countries each receiving differing takes on the hatchback theme.<br /><br />As you would expect, there will be a hybrid version of the 2012 Civic, and it's again slated to get a 1.5-liter gasoline-powered engine mated to Honda's Integrated Motor Assist technology. This powerplant will reportedly be shared with the upcoming CR-Z hybrid hatchback where it will be available with either an automatic CVT transmission or six-speed manual.<br /><br />Hopefully, we'll see how accurate all of this is when the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/TokyoMotorShow/">Tokyo Motor Show</a> rolls into town this October, where a production prototype of the 2011 CR-Z is expected to be shown. <em>Thanks for the tip, Jason</em>!<br /><br />[Source: Mag-X via <a href="http://www.vtec.net/news/news-item?news_item_id=831062">Temple of VTEC</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/21/rumormill-2012-honda-civic-details-circulate/">Rumormill: 2012 Honda Civic details circulate</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 21 May 2009 16:28:00 EST. Just like last year, the rumored on-again, off-again for production luxury supercar is set to tackle the Green Hell in another <a href="http:// http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/13/video-lexus-lf-a-racing-at-the-ring/">24 hour endurance run</a>. That certainly lends some credence to rumors that the company is still considering it for production. The last we heard they were planning on showing a production version of the LF-A in <span style="text-decoration: line-through;">Frankfurt</span> <a href="http:// http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/24/rumormill-production-lexus-lf-a-toyobaru-coupe-coming-to-tokyo/">Tokyo</a>.<br /><br />While we have grown somewhat tired of all of the speculation, the car remains formidable, at least on paper and in the flesh. Driving it will prove or disprove our feelings, but what's not to like about a sexy 600 horsepower, V-10-powered supercar that should offer some of the same driving thrills as a Ferrari Enzo for one third the price? Racing it for 48 hours at the 'Ring can only improve the durability and aid in finetuning. GAZOO Racing is prepping the car for competition this year with just a few minor tweaks to the basically stock platform.<br /><br />Lexus is also using this as an opportunity to give some young employees a bit of experience developing product under pressure. That will likely help with future product development as well. Hopefully, we will see a production vehicle in October, but until then, we look forward to seeing it under the whip in May. There's a press release from Lexus after the jump.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/lexus-lf-a-concept/">Lexus LF-A Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/lexus-lf-a-concept/127866/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/lexus-lf-a---04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/lexus-lf-a-concept/127861/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/lexus-lf-a---03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/lexus-lf-a-concept/127864/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/lexus-lf-a---21_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/lexus-lf-a-concept/127882/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/lexus-lf-a---02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/lexus-lf-a-concept/127881/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/lexus-lf-a---12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/lexus-lf-a-racecar-at-the-nurburgring/">Lexus LF-A Racecar at the Nurburgring</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/lexus-lf-a-racecar-at-the-nurburgring/803826/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/01_lexus_lfa_racer_ring_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/lexus-lf-a-racecar-at-the-nurburgring/803827/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/02_lexus_lfa_racer_ring_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/lexus-lf-a-racecar-at-the-nurburgring/803828/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/03_lexus_lfa_racer_ring_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/lexus-lf-a-racecar-at-the-nurburgring/803829/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/04_lexus_lfa_racer_ring_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/lexus-lf-a-racecar-at-the-nurburgring/803830/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/05_lexus_lfa_racer_ring_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Lexus]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/21/lexus-lf-a-racing-to-production/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Lexus LF-A to race in 24 Hours of Nürburgring, but is it still on track for production? </em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/21/lexus-lf-a-racing-to-production/">Lexus LF-A to race in 24 Hours of Nürburgring, but is it still on track for production? </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 21 Apr 2009 11:20:00 EST. According to 7Tune, the harder IS F is likely to shed over 300 pounds, dropping the overall curb weight to around 3,400 pounds. Carbon fiber will be used extensively both inside and out, with more prominently blistered fenders fore and aft, and the costly weave used liberally throughout the interior, including the console and seats. Output will rise to around 422 hp and carbon-ceramic brakes are rumored to be fitted at all four corners. A total of 500 examples will be available worldwide, but with a price of around $250,000 U.S., most Evolutions will be sold in Japan.<br /><br />If our green tea leaf reading is correct, we'd expect the Evolution to debut at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/TokyoMotorShow/">Tokyo Motor Show</a> this year, although judging by the price, don't expect it to be available on U.S. shores.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.7tune.com/is-f-evo-pricing-revealed/">7Tune</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/20/rumormill-lexus-is-f-evolution-coming-next-summer-not-for-u-s/">Rumormill: Lexus IS F Evolution coming next summer, not-for-U.S. price</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 20 Apr 2009 16:20:00 EST. When production ended over a decade ago, it left a gaping hole in Honda's line-up between the Zest and S2000, and if recent reports are to be believed, the situation will be rectified in 2011.<br /><br />According to Best Car, Honda is hard at work on the Beat's successor, but unfortunately, the previous model's mid-engine layout and rear-wheel drive won't be employed on the next generation. Using the same platform and 660cc engine found underneath the Life and Zest, the next Beat's engine will be mounted up front, sending power to the front wheels. There's also talk of an all-wheel drive variant, but consumers in Japan shouldn't hold their breath. Pricing and a release date haven't been disclosed, but we wouldn't be surprised to find a Beat concept on the floor of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/TokyoMotorShow/">Tokyo Motor Show</a> later this year.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.7tune.com/new-honda-beat-on-the-horizon/">7Tune</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/16/the-beat-goes-on-honda-reportedly-looking-at-successor-to-kei-r/">The Beat Goes On? Now, Mazda CEO Takashi Yamanouchi has announced the automaker will begin offering both hybrids and electric vehicles in the future, but would only say that the vehicles would be in the Mazda line-up come 2015.<br /><br />However, Mazda's goal of creating more fuel efficient vehicles won't stop at hybrids and EVs. According to Yamanouchi, "Our new gasoline engines will achieve the same fuel economy as current diesel engines, and our diesel engines will achieve similar fuel economy as existing hybrids." This new engine tech will be unveiled at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/TokyoMotorShow/">Tokyo Motor Show</a> this October.<br /><br />Yamanouchi said that Mazda "will be able to offer affordable eco-friendly vehicles to 90 percent of the car-buying public, not to just a limited segment of the market." This line of eco models will feature reduced weight, improved aerodynamics, start-stop engine technology and lower rolling resistances. Mazda hasn't decided to begin offering a diesel engine in the States, but it could be in the cards, and Yamanouchi made it clear that the new engines and their corresponding technology wouldn't be shared with Ford, although Mazda is open to selling the technology to the Blue Oval.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autonews.com/article/20090413/ANA03/904130351/1186">Automotive News</a> - Sub. <br />With the D-3, Mercedes-Benz, Renault, Lamborghini and other automakers, pulling out of this year's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/TokyoMotorShow/">Tokyo Motor Show</a>, Toyota is rumored to have a big showing to capitalize on the lack of reveals this October. According to InsideLine's correspondent in Japan, Toyota will unveil the production version of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/LexusLFA/">Lexus LF-A</a>, originally expected to debut in Frankfurt. The V10-powered, 600-hp supercar's future was in doubt late last year, but the on-again-off-again coupe won't be the only two-door gracing the Toyota stage.<br /><br />The collaboration between Toyota and Subaru on a new coupe is also rumored to make an appearance in Tokyo, although it's unclear if the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/Toyobaru/">Toyobaru</a> will debut as a concept or a production model. Based on the current Impreza platform, the rear-wheel drive will coupe will be powered by a Subaru-sourced flat-four with a new Toyota-developed head that will decrease emissions and increase fuel economy while returning an estimated 220 horsepower.<br /><br />Toyota is also expected to show off a range of hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles, along with new EV and battery technology. But the automaker will have four fewer days to show off its wares to the public - the show has been cut down from 17 days to 13, running from October 23 to November 4.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/lexus-lf-a-concept/">Lexus LF-A Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/lexus-lf-a-concept/127866/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/lexus-lf-a---04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/lexus-lf-a-concept/127861/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/lexus-lf-a---03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/lexus-lf-a-concept/127864/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/lexus-lf-a---21_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/lexus-lf-a-concept/127882/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/lexus-lf-a---02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/lexus-lf-a-concept/127881/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/lexus-lf-a---12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=144846">InsideLine</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/24/rumormill-production-lexus-lf-a-toyobaru-coupe-coming-to-tokyo/">Rumormill: Production Lexus LF-A, Toyobaru coupe coming to Tokyo</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 24 Mar 2009 15:01:00 EST. The news comes after a meeting of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, the owners of the show for over 100 years. The British Motor Show was once a vibrant event for showcasing new cars and trucks in Britain, but recent shows have been a near total bust. The event once attracted over 900,000 visitors, but recent shows have drawn half that number. The show was even relocated to London in 2006, and organizers were rewarded with a further drop in attendance for their efforts. While the loss of the 2010 show is depressing for car-lovers, some are speculating that the show may be scuttled all-together due to its long and painful decline.<br /><br />News of the cancellation follows tough results for auto shows world-wide. Several automakers skipped out on North American International Auto Show in Detroit, while rumors have persisted that the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/14/detroit-automakers-pull-out-of-2009-tokyo-motor-show/">Tokyo Motor Show</a> will be canceled altogether. In Australia, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/04/report-sydney-motor-show-scrapped-melbourne-to-go-on/">Sydney show</a> has been canceled, as well. This is bad news for auto show lovers everywhere (*raises hand*), and we're hoping the trend reverses itself soon.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/News/Search-Results/Motor-show--events/London-Motor-Show/British-Motor-Show-2010-is-axed/">Car Magazine</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/19/british-motor-show-toast-for-2010/">British Motor Show toast for 2010</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 19 Mar 2009 08:28:00 EST. First came word that Subaru and Toyota were postponing the launch of their boxer-powered RWD coupe, then<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/26/officially-official-honda-s2000-to-be-terminated-at-the-end-of/"> the S2000 is killed off</a> and finally reports suggest that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/12/nissan-cancels-rwd-silvia-successor-and-gt-r-sedan-prius-fight/">Nissan has cancelled its Silvia successor</a>. Thankfully, all is not lost. InsideLine is reporting that Mazda is hard at work on another version of the RX-7 and development is underway on the next RX-8, supposedly - and predictably - dubbed the RX-9.<br /><br />According to IL's (traditionally) unnamed sources, Mazda is working on a 16X twin-rotor Wankel (two rotors, each displacing 800cc), boosting displacement of the current 13B by 300cc and putting out upwards of 270 hp in naturally aspirated guise. Mazda's aim for its next generation of rotary engines is to dramatically reduce emissions and boost fuel economy to the tune of 20%.<br /><br />Mazda will likely use the same engine to motivate the RX-7, but in addition to offering a traditional manual gearbox, Mazda is developing a dual-clutch transmission with a twist: the DCT will allow drivers to set the exact points where the clutch packs engage for maximum performance on the track.<br /><br />The RX-7's circuit-friendly cred is enhanced by the report that Mazda engineers are struggling to keep the coupe's curb weight in check. An all-new chassis is being developed that will supposedly eliminate around 220 pounds, bringing the RX-7's weight down to approximately 2,640 pounds.<br /><br />We're keeping our fingers crossed that both the RX-7 and RX-9 will make an appearance during this year's show season, although the way things are going, we don't expect to see either at this year's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/TokyoMotorShow/">Tokyo Motor Show</a>.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=141987">Inside Line</a> | Image: Motor Magazine via <a href="http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2009/02/japanese-magazine-spins-out-new-mazda.html">Carscoop</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/12/rumormill-mazda-rx-7-still-under-development-next-rx-8-to-be-c/">Rumormill: Mazda RX-7 still under development, next RX-8 to be called RX-9</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 12 Feb 2009 20:36:00 EST. <br />At the 2007 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/TokyoMotorShow/">Tokyo Motor Show</a>, Honda took the wraps off the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/24/tokyo-motor-show-honda-strike-cr-x-strike-cr-z-concept/">CR-Z concept</a>, a three-door hybrid that Honda billed as a performance vehicle for the environmentally conscious enthusiast. In the meantime, Honda has confirmed that the CR-Z is headed for production and slated to arrive on European and Japanese shores in 2010, with U.S. sales likely to begin sometime in 2011.<br /><br />Back in February of 2008, Honda's UK manager for product planning, Mark Turner, said <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/20/production-honda-cr-z-hybrid-coupe-to-hit-europe-first/">development of the CR-Z was underway at Honda's R&amp;D facility in Germany and that a strictly gasoline-powered version could make it to market if there was suitable demand</a>. Fast-forward to today, and a new report claims Honda could be developing a CR-Z Type-R rumored to launch in Japan sometime next year.<br /><br />At this point, Honda refuses to confirm or deny the existence of a Type-R version of the CR-Z, and there's plenty of speculation about what could power the new hot hatch. Honda could take a play from the Accord Hybrid and boost the stock CR-Z's gasoline-electric drivetrain, or, if Turner's mention of a gasoline-only model is to be believed, fit the CR-Z Type-R with a revised version of Honda's K20 inline-four.<br /><br />Either way, expect the production version of the Honda CR-Z to debut at this year's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/TokyoMotorShow/">Tokyo Motor Show</a> and keep your fingers crossed that a Type-R variant gets some space on the stage.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/honda-cr-z-concept/">Honda CR-Z Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/honda-cr-z-concept/455621/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/77470518_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/honda-cr-z-concept/455620/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/77470091_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/honda-cr-z-concept/453729/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/honda_crz_live_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/honda-cr-z-concept/453725/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/honda_crz_live_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/honda-cr-z-concept/453727/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/honda_crz_live_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.gtchannel.com/content.php?cid=55567">GTChannel</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/12/rumormill-honda-cr-z-type-r-coming-to-tokyo-motor-show/">Rumormill: Honda CR-Z Type-R coming to Tokyo Motor Show</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 12 Feb 2009 14:26:00 EST. Volvo's move comes after all three Detroit automakers decided to <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/tokyo-motor-show/">skip the event</a>, which is held every other year. Volvo, like the Detroit automakers, doesn't have a major presence in the land of the rising sun, making the decision not to head for Tokyo easier. With the precipitous state of the global economy, the prospect of saving money doesn't suck, either. Floor space, displays, plus travel and accommodations for employees can cost quite a bit. GM spent $2 million at Tokyo in 2007, and though Volvo's display wouldn't cost that much, the tab for Tokyo time would still be steep.<br /><br />No Japanese automakers have dropped out yet, but the lack of foreign automaker involvement could mean postponement until 2011. Automotive News is reporting that Tokyo Motor Show officials will make a decision on what to do by early next month.<br /><br />[Source:<a href="http://www.autonews.com/article/20090116/ANA08/901169976/1171"> Automotive News</a> subs req'd]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/17/volvo-joins-detroit-3-skips-out-of-tokyo-motor-show/">Volvo joins Detroit 3, skips out of Tokyo Motor Show</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 17 Jan 2009 17:32:00 EST. After all, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/06/09-detroit-auto-show-now-with-100-less-nissan/">Nissan</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/21/another-one-bites-the-dust-mitsubishi-pulls-out-of-detroit-auto/">Mitsubishi</a>, and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/26/suzuki-bows-out-of-2009-detroit-auto-show/">Suzuki</a> all pulled out of the Detroit show, right? In reality, the true answer is less conspiratorial and more financial in nature. Exhibiting at a major show requires a seven-figure outlay (General Motors reportedly spent $2 million for their presence at the 2007 Tokyo show), and none of the Detroit 3 have what could be called a major presence in the Japanese market.<br /><br />No matter the reason, GM and Chrysler are now confirming that they have pulled out of October's Tokyo Motor Show, and word is that Ford didn't meet last year's sign-up deadline, so they probably won't be in attendance, either. Given the high cost associated with building and staffing an international auto show stand - not to mention diminishing crowds and increased exposure through other forms of media (<em>*ahem*</em>) - this sort of story is likely to become more and more common until industry and the wider economy sorts itself out. In fact, if <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/13/jama-says-tokyo-motor-show-may-be-cancelled/">recent reports</a> are accurate, the entire Tokyo Motor Show is itself in doubt.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http:// http://www.autonews.com/article/20090114/ANA08/901149982/1115">Automotive News</a>- sub. req'd.]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/14/detroit-automakers-pull-out-of-2009-tokyo-motor-show/">Detroit 3 pull out of 2009 Tokyo Motor Show</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 14 Jan 2009 14:27:00 EST. The show is set to run this Oct. 23-Nov. 8. If canceled, it won't open its doors again until 2011 due to scheduling agreements with other top-tier auto shows. Toshihiro Iwatake, JAMA's executive director and secretary general, told <em>Automotive News</em> that he favors going ahead with the show regardless. "We think the motor show is a symbol of industrial prosperity," he said. "We have to show that our industry is healthy." Iwatake added that the deadline for automakers to register was late last year, and some of the "usual manufacturers" hadn't made the cut... but he wouldn't say which manufacturers hadn't booked the show. <br /><br />The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/detroit-auto-show/">North American International Auto Show</a> is in full swing this week even with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/24/nissan-pulls-out-of-detroit-and-chicago-auto-shows/">absence of industry players</a> such as Nissan, Suzuki, Porsche, and Land Rover. Each of the Detroit 3 are strongly present. If one of the Japanese Big 3 (Toyota, Honda, and Nissan) pull out of the Tokyo Motor Show, the event could face certain doom say industry sources. The decision on whether or not to cancel the Tokyo Motor Show will be made next month. In the meantime, Iwatake says that JAMA is welcoming late registrants. <br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autonews.com/article/20090112/ANA08/901120217/1171">Automotive News</a> - Sub. It is March, though, that will bring year's first real bounty. At Geneva, BMW will be showing off a concept version of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/24/bmw-progressive-activity-sedan-coming-to-frankfurt-in-09/">Progressive Activity Vehicle</a> (half 5 Series, half X6), the Concept eDrive (an electric 1 Series or 3 Series), a Z4 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/10/11/einzigartig-bmw-7-series-individual/">Individual</a>, and the Rolls-Royce 102EX (otherwise known as the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/17/spy-shots-rr4-interior-shows-off-new-steering-wheel-idrive-lik/">RR4</a>). Then in April, BMW's taking the show to Shanghai with the 760Li. <br /><br />Post-Shanghai, you'll get a few months to digest. Then at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, BMW is expected to have the production-ready Progressive Activity Vehicle on display and the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/17/spy-shots-production-mini-crossover-spotted/">MINI Crossover</a>. It is there, perhaps, that they'll also trot out a show pony speedster they call the Vision-Z with eDrive, their idea of "progress of sports cars for the future." And sprinkled on top throughout the year come launches of the 7 Series xDrive, 7 Series Hybrid, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/22/video-bmw-drives-the-x5-m/">X5 M</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/26/spy-shots-bmw-m-tuned-x5-and-x6-in-spartanburg/">X6 M</a>, and X6 Active Hybrid. For bimmer lovers, 2009 is going to be a jubilee year.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.bmwblog.com/2008/12/26/bmw-vehicles-to-be-introduced-in-2009/">BMW Blog</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/28/bmws-2009-unveiling-schedule/">BMW's 2009 unveiling schedule?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 28 Dec 2008 11:29:00 EST.
