<br />If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. That's the plan for Mecum Auctions, which is putting an original Shelby Daytona Coupe back up for sale at its inaugural Monterey Auction on August 15 at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Resort &amp; Spa. There were high expectations when the legendary racecar first crossed the block at <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/16/shelby-daytona-coupe-a-6-8-million-no-sale-at-mecum-auction/">Mecum's Spring Classic Auction back in May</a>, but the final bid of $6.8 million was under the reserve and the Shelby didn't find a new home. Mecum reports that it has received a post-auction bid of $7.5 million, but is still hoping for more.<br /><br />One of six Cobra Daytona Coupes built by Shelby to compete in the 1964 and 1965 FIA World Manufacturers Championship, CSX2601 is known as the "championship car" after a win at Reims, France clinched the manufacturer's title. With an aerodynamic shape designed by Peter Brock, the Daytona Coupe had a top speed 25 mph higher than the Cobra roadsters that allowed it to compete with the Ferraris on Europe's high-speed tracks. If Mecum does find a buyer for CSX2601, it will smash the record price paid for an American car at auction, set in 2007 by Barrett-Jackson with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/21/2007-barrett-jackson-scottsdale-carroll-shelbys-personal-cobr/">sale of a rare twin-supercharged Shelby Cobra Super Snake</a>. More details in the press release after the jump.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1965-shelby-daytona-cobra-coupe-csx2601">1965 Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupe CSX2601</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1965-shelby-daytona-cobra-coupe-csx2601/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/csx2601_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1965-shelby-daytona-cobra-coupe-csx2601/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/csx2601_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1965-shelby-daytona-cobra-coupe-csx2601/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/csx2601_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1965-shelby-daytona-cobra-coupe-csx2601/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/csx2601_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1965-shelby-daytona-cobra-coupe-csx2601/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/csx2601_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 <a href="http://www.drewphillipsphotography.com/">Drew Phillips</a></small></strong><small><strong> / Weblogs, Inc.</strong></small></em><br />[Source: Mecum Auctions]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/14/once-more-with-feeling-daytona-coupe-back-up-for-auction-in-mon/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Once More With Feeling: Daytona Coupe back up for auction in Monterey</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/14/once-more-with-feeling-daytona-coupe-back-up-for-auction-in-mon/">Once More With Feeling: Daytona Coupe back up for auction in Monterey</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 14 Jul 2009 08:59:00 EST. <br />Coinciding with the 35th Annual Ford and Team Shelby Nationals in Tulsa, OK, Shelby Automobiles has released a barrage of new models including a 2010 version of the GT500 Super Snake (above). Most of the models are based on the previous generation Mustang, either the Mustang GT, Shelby GT or GT500 that current owners can bring to Shelby to be modified. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-shelby-gt-sr/2109795/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" align="right" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/shelbysr000_opt.jpg" class="right border" alt="" /></a>First up is the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-shelby-models-for-2009/2108961/">Shelby GT/SC</a>, basically a Shelby GT with a supercharger, upgraded brakes and triple gauges on the dash. Next is the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-shelby-models-for-2009/2108965/">Shelby GT/SR</a> (right), which is essentially a GT/SC model fitted with additional equipment for racing like BFGoodrich R compound tires, a one-piece aluminum driveshaft, front brake duct kit and an adjustable suspension.<br /><br />If you want to Shelbify your regular Mustang GT, you can opt for the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-shelby-models-for-2009/2108969/">SuperCharged package</a> that includes a supercharger, upgrades brakes, suspension and exhaust, 18-inch tires and more. You can also spec out your Mustang to SR spec, which adds similar upgrades to the GT/SR model. <br /><br />Have a GT500 that needs more Shelby stuff on it? You can now go with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-shelby-models-for-2009/2108975/">GT500SE</a> (Special Edition) package that includes a carbon fiber front splitter, rocker panels and hood grille inserts, Ford Racing suspension, Borla exhaust, 20-inch wheels and tires, and more. And what if your GT500 is a 2010 model? Well, Shelby is now offering their <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-shelby-models-for-2009/2108952/">Super Snake package</a> for the latest GT500 that, among other things, offers a 725-horsepower supercharger upgrade.<br /><br />Overwhelmed? So are we, but follow the jump to dig through all the upgrades and information for each vehicle. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-shelby-gt500-super-snake">2010 Shelby GT500 Super Snake</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-shelby-gt500-super-snake/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/2010ss000_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-shelby-gt500-super-snake/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/2010ss001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-shelby-gt500-super-snake/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/2010ss002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-shelby-gt500-super-snake/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/2010ss003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-shelby-gt500-super-snake/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/2010ss004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-shelby-gt-sr">2010 Shelby GT/SR</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-shelby-gt-sr/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/shelbysr000_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-shelby-gt-sr/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/shelbysr001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-shelby-gt-sr/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/shelbysr002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-shelby-gt-sr/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/shelbysr003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-shelby-gt-sr/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/shelbysr004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-shelby-models-for-2009">New Shelby models for 2009</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-shelby-models-for-2009/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/2010shelbysupersnake_thumbnail.jpg" alt="2010 Shelby GT500 Super Snake" title="2010 Shelby GT500 Super Snake" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-shelby-models-for-2009/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/2010shelbysupersnake2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="2010 Shelby GT500 Super Snake" title="2010 Shelby GT500 Super Snake" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-shelby-models-for-2009/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/2010shelbysupersnake3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="2010 Shelby GT500 Super Snake" title="2010 Shelby GT500 Super Snake" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-shelby-models-for-2009/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/2010shelbysupersnake4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="2010 Shelby GT500 Super Snake" title="2010 Shelby GT500 Super Snake" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-shelby-models-for-2009/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/shelbygtsc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Shelby GT/SC" title="Shelby GT/SC" /></a></div><br />[Source: Shelby]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/26/shelby-unveils-six-new-models-including-2010-gt500-super-snake/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Shelby unveils six new models including 2010 GT500 Super Snake</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/26/shelby-unveils-six-new-models-including-2010-gt500-super-snake/">Shelby unveils six new models including 2010 GT500 Super Snake</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 26 Jun 2009 11:28:00 EST. <br />There was plenty of hype leading up to Mecum's Spring Classic Auction this weekend, and rightfully so. Up for grabs was the 1965 Shelby Daytona Coup -- one of six ever made -- that clinched the FIA World Championship. Bidding was expected to reach into eight figures, with the potential to break several records for cars sold at auctions. <br /><br />In a packed house filled with excited bidders and spectators, the Daytona Coupe finally crossed the block last night. Bidding started at a respectable $4 million, quickly went to $5 million, $5.5, and then $6.5. Then bidding slowed, eventually stalling out at $6.8 million. An astronomical sum of money, but not enough to reach the reserve price. With no one willing to bid higher, the Daytona Coupe rolled away unsold. However, Dana Mecum was confident that the car would eventually sell, saying "I'll think we'll get a deal done by the end of the weekend," but unfortunately no auction records were broken.<br /><br />Several other notable Shelbys were no-sales as well, including a 1964 Cobra 289 competition model that reached $1.3 million, a 1963 Cobra 289 with a high bid of $525,000, and a 1966 Cobra 427 S/C that also hit the $1.3 million mark without finding a new buyer. The top sale of the auction was a 1966 Ford GT40 that went for a gavel price of $2,300,000.<br /><em><br />Edit - we've been informed that the 1966 Cobra 427 S/C sold for $1.165 million as part of the </em><em>Mecum Bid Goes On on Friday after the car went off the block.</em><br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1965-shelby-daytona-cobra-coupe-csx2601">1965 Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupe CSX2601</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1965-shelby-daytona-cobra-coupe-csx2601/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/csx2601_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1965-shelby-daytona-cobra-coupe-csx2601/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/csx2601_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1965-shelby-daytona-cobra-coupe-csx2601/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/csx2601_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1965-shelby-daytona-cobra-coupe-csx2601/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/csx2601_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1965-shelby-daytona-cobra-coupe-csx2601/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/csx2601_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><br />[Source: Discovery HD]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/16/shelby-daytona-coupe-a-6-8-million-no-sale-at-mecum-auction/">Shelby Daytona Coupe a $6.8 million no-sale at Mecum auction</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 16 May 2009 19:06:00 EST. <br />Back in the mid 1990s, Carroll Shelby set out to do something he had never done: build a complete car from scratch. The Series 1 seemed to have the right formula on paper - lightweight aluminum honeycomb chassis, carbon fiber body, sophisticated coilover suspension and a 4.0-liter V8 created for the Indy Racing League. However, just like so many others before (and after), ol' Carroll found that building a production car was a much more difficult task than simply stuffing hi-po engines into Mustangs and Cobras. The Series 1 suffered from unexpectedly high production costs that nearly doubling its $100,000 price tag, and the IRL engine was dropped in favor of an Aurora-based V8 producing just 320 horsepower. Despite additional investment in the car and a supercharger option, customers who had put down deposits fled and less than 250 examples left the Shelby factory. <br /><br />Then in 2006, Shelby Automobiles, Inc. announced it would be <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/06/25/shelby-takes-second-swing-with-series-2/">continuing production of the car, renamed the Series II</a> and featuring a revised front and rear end and a price tag of $225,000. Despite claims that most of the production run was already sold out, the Series II never materialized due to the excessive costs needed to re-certify the car for modern Federal standards. We haven't heard about the car since then and thought the story had ended. But wait, there's more! Apparently there were still a few Series II bodies still lying around, and Superformance Distribution, the same company that sells the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/18/lucky-owner-takes-delivery-of-his-new-foose-coupe/">Foose Coupe</a>, has a handful for sale. Each are sold as "specially constructed vehicles" sans engine and transmission, leaving the responsibility of adding the powertrain to the new owner. We've heard that only four Series II roadsters have been built, making it one of the most rare and intriguing Shelbys ever built. <br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/shelby-series-ii">Shelby Series II</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/shelby-series-ii/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/shelbyseries1_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/shelby-series-ii/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/shelbyseries1_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/shelby-series-ii/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/shelbyseries1_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/shelby-series-ii/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/shelbyseries1_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/shelby-series-ii/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/shelbyseries1_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.superformancedistribution.com/">Superformance Distribution</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/15/handful-of-new-shelby-series-ii-roadsters-still-available-for-pu/">Handful of new Shelby Series II roadsters still available for purchase</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 15 May 2009 13:28:00 EST. Track officials estimated more than 38,000 people came out to see about 2,000 Mustangs on display from 15 different countries, and Autoblog was among the revelers.<br /><br />The Mustang Club of France showed up with a dozen or so 2010 Mustangs they'd rented, Steve Saleen was signing autographs, Ford CEO Alan Mulally <a href="http://blog.al.com/businessnews/2009/04/ford_ceo_makes_surprise_visit.html">made a surprise appearance</a> and the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge had two rounds of competition. There were fully-restored, low-mileage Mustangs trailered in from as far away as California and one dirt-encrusted, 1966 GT350H brought in straight from its <a href="http://blog.al.com/engine-block/2009/04/mustang_45th_350gth_gathered_d.html">29-year stint in an Alabama shed</a>. All three levels of the track's paddock area were full of Ford's iconic muscle car, as were the grassy fields normally reserved spectator parking.<br /><br />When the track wasn't being used for racing, vintage and late-model Mustang owners got the chance to see what their cars could really do. The distinctive whine of Roush superchargers melded with bassy roars of 40-year-old small-blocks for a pulse-quickening aural collage, providing a singular soundtrack for the event.<br /><br />Looming clouds began to gather on Saturday afternoon, but only a few sprinkles had fallen by mid-day Sunday. For the most part, temperatures in the upper 60s made walking around the landscaped track a truly memorable experience.<br /><br />Happy Birthday, Mustang. Here's looking forward to another forty five!<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-celebrates-45-years-of-mustangs">Ford celebrates 45 years of Mustangs</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-celebrates-45-years-of-mustangs/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/ab_45thanniv_cjt_0418_19---26_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-celebrates-45-years-of-mustangs/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/ab_45thanniv_cjt_0418_19---36_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-celebrates-45-years-of-mustangs/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/ab_45thanniv_cjt_0418_19---10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-celebrates-45-years-of-mustangs/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/ab_45thanniv_cjt_0418_19---06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ford-celebrates-45-years-of-mustangs/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/ab_45thanniv_cjt_0418_19---51_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/20/ford-celebrates-45-years-of-the-mustang-at-barber-motorsports-pa/">Ford celebrates 45 years of the Mustang at Barber Motorsports Park</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 20 Apr 2009 08:28:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>2010 Shelby GT500 - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />Ford has managed to eke out an extra 2 miles per gallon on the highway from the heavily revised <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/2010ShelbyGt500/">2010 Shelby GT500</a>, bringing its EPA estimated figures to 14 mpg city and 22 mpg highway. Sure, it seems rather unlikely that buyers considering a muscle car will be all that concerned with fuel economy, but we'll take what we can get, especially since the fuel economy increase is accompanied by a bump up to 540 horsepower and a stump-pulling 510 lb-ft of torque. Plus, an increase in highway mileage means fewer stops on long trips, and that's always welcome in our book.<br /><br />Now, all of this is fine and dandy, but we all know the real reason this car exists is to obliterate its tires on every 4.3-second blast to 60 mph. Fortunately for fans of ridiculous straight-line acceleration, the revisions that make the latest Shelby more fuel efficient also also end up contributing to its ability to accelerate. The biggest change that helps on the highway is numerically lower gearing in the transmission for the fifth and sixth cogs, which, combined with a 3.55:1 axle ratio, allows the baddest 'Stang to boast improved acceleration in the first four gears to go along with the lowered RPM highway drone made possible by the last two gears.<br /><br />Ford also points to a refined air intake and a revised twin-disc clutch as reasons that the 2010 Shelby GT500 is a step above its predecessor, and we also took note of the vastly superior interior that's standard in all new Mustangs when we last looked at the GT500. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/01/detroit-preview-2010-ford-shelby-gt500-bites-back/">Click here</a> to read all about it, and click past the break for the mpg-touting press release.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-shelby-gt500-live">Detroit 2009: 2010 Shelby GT500 Live</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-shelby-gt500-live/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/001_gt500detroit_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-shelby-gt500-live/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/002_gt500detroit_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-shelby-gt500-live/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/003_gt500detroit_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-shelby-gt500-live/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/004_gt500detroit_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-shelby-gt500-live/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/005_gt500detroit_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Ford]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/01/2010-ford-shelby-gt500-squeezes-out-an-extra-2-mpg/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>2010 Ford Shelby GT500 squeezes out an extra 2 MPG</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/01/2010-ford-shelby-gt500-squeezes-out-an-extra-2-mpg/">2010 Ford Shelby GT500 squeezes out an extra 2 MPG</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 01 Apr 2009 08:59:00 EST. </small> <br />Symbolic Motors just held their Annual Spring Event to showcase all the new models from the high-end manufacturers they represent in their San Diego dealerships. The latest and greatest from <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/symbolic-motors-annual-spring-event-09/1458615/">Bentley</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/symbolic-motors-annual-spring-event-09/1458621/">Rolls-Royce</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/symbolic-motors-annual-spring-event-09/1458617/">Lamborghini</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/symbolic-motors-annual-spring-event-09/1458601/">Lotus</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/symbolic-motors-annual-spring-event-09/1458593/">Spyker</a> were on display, along with some of the restoration projects the firm is carrying out in their Sorrento Valley facilities. Just for good measure, they also invited a few of their friends to bring along their own favorite wheels.<br /><br />That meant there was a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/symbolic-motors-annual-spring-event-09/1458628/">Ferrari Enzo</a>, a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/symbolic-motors-annual-spring-event-09/1458611/">Pratt &amp; Miller C6RS Corvette</a>, a couple of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/symbolic-motors-annual-spring-event-09/1458603/">Miuras</a>, a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/symbolic-motors-annual-spring-event-09/1458583/">McLaren F1 GTR</a>, a Porsche 962, an <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/symbolic-motors-annual-spring-event-09/1458602/">ex-Mario Andretti racer</a>, two <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/symbolic-motors-annual-spring-event-09/1458600/">Bugatti</a> <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/symbolic-motors-annual-spring-event-09/1458607/">Veyrons</a>, a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/symbolic-motors-annual-spring-event-09/1458609/">Koenigsegg CCX</a>, a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/symbolic-motors-annual-spring-event-09/1458598/">Lamborghini Reventon</a>, a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/symbolic-motors-annual-spring-event-09/1458620/">Blastolene special</a>, and the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/symbolic-motors-annual-spring-event-09/1458616/">sixth and final Ferrari Daytona prototype</a>, to name but a few outstanding examples. In addition to the incredible cars on display, Symbolic threw open the doors to their shop and made staff available to answer questions. If that wasn't enough, there was free food and live music, as well as raffles throughout the day. Check out the gallery to see what you might have missed, and check out <a href="http://www.symbolicmotors.com/">Symbolic</a> if you happen to find yourself in the San Diego area with a few hours on your hands.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/symbolic-motors-annual-spring-event-09">Symbolic Motors Annual Spring Event '09</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/symbolic-motors-annual-spring-event-09/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/symbolicspring09---43_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/symbolic-motors-annual-spring-event-09/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/symbolicspring09---01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Ferrari and Maserati projects" title="Ferrari and Maserati projects" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/symbolic-motors-annual-spring-event-09/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/symbolicspring09---02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Symbolic Spring Event '09" title="Symbolic Spring Event '09" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/symbolic-motors-annual-spring-event-09/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/symbolicspring09---04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/symbolic-motors-annual-spring-event-09/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/symbolicspring09---05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><small><strong>Live photos copyright (C)2009 Frank Filipponio / Weblogs, Inc.</strong></small></em><small></small><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/29/autoblog-stops-at-the-symbolic-motors-annual-spring-event-09/">Autoblog stops at the Symbolic Motors Annual Spring Event '09</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 29 Mar 2009 18:31:00 EST. Of course, how could we forget the sordid tale of a company building licensed replicas of the Shelby GT500 Eleanor featured in <em>Gone in 60 Seconds</em>, only to be <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/06/unique-performance-raided-by-local-police/">shut down by the police</a> after its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/27/round-4-unique-performance-execs-face-25-felony-charges/">shady business practices</a> were uncovered before most cars were delivered. More than a few ex-customers that lost out on their prized vehicles surely haven't forgotten about the deposits they put down on the cars, and last year, a group <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/02/carroll-shelby-sued-by-unique-performance-customers/">sued Carroll Shelby</a> in an attempt to recoup their investments.<br /><br />To help smooth things over, Carroll Shelby Licensing Inc. has agreed to a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/08/shelby-severing-ties-with-unique-performance/">new licensing agreement</a> with two auto shops in Texas so that the series of continuation GT500SE and GT350SR cars can be completed. Each finished vehicle will get an official serial number from Shelby along with inclusion into the Shelby Worldwide Registry. While the offer is being made royalty free, customers will still be required to pay for the completion of the cars.<br /><br />[Source: Carroll Shelby Licensing]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/11/shelby-okays-production-of-continuation-cars-for-former-unique/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Shelby okays production of "continuation" cars for former Unique Performance customers</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/11/shelby-okays-production-of-continuation-cars-for-former-unique/">Shelby okays production of "continuation" cars for former Unique Performance customers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 11 Mar 2009 17:58:00 EST. <br />The month of May is looking to be a historic one, with not one but two cars having the potential to smash record prices at auctions on the very same weekend. We already reported on the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/06/rare-ferrari-250-tr-expected-to-break-records-at-rms-maranello/">Ferrari 250 TR that will be sold at RM's Maranello auction</a>, and now Mecum has announced the sale of a legendary 1965 Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupe at their 22nd annual Spring Classic auction in Indianapolis. The auction will be shown live on Discovery's HD theatre, with the Daytona Coupe selling at 8:00pm on Friday, May 18. Mecum fully expects the car to exceed the highest amount paid at a public auction for an American automobile, which is, to our knowledge, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/21/2007-barrett-jackson-scottsdale-carroll-shelbys-personal-cobr/">Shelby Cobra Super Snake</a> sold at Barrett-Jackson in 2007 for a total of $5.5 million. The auction house even hopes to reach the eight figure mark. The current record holder for any car is a 1<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/19/1961-ferrari-california-spyder-sells-for-record-10-894-900/">961 Ferrari California Spyder that sold for $10.89 million</a> at RM's auction last year.<br /><br />The Daytona Coupe being sold, chassis CSX2601, is the fourth of just six built, winning three of eight FIA races it competed in. One of those victories was at Reims in France that earned the points needed for Shelby to clinch the World Manufacturers Championship in the GT III class. The car has been fully restored to its original condition and sports its Reims livery. Bob Bondurant, who piloted the Daytona Coupe to its wins back in 1965 and also owned it shortly thereafter, was reunited with the car at his high performance driving school in Chandler, AZ this weekend. He was joined by Peter Brock, who designed the Coupe, and the two shared stories of the development and racing of the car. Afterwards, Bondurant even put the car through its paces on the track, the first time he had driven it in more than twenty years. <br />Tonight at the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum in Pomona, California, Carroll Shelby and Co. unveiled what is by far the most radical Mustang ever built for the street. Named after Don "The Snake" Prudhomme, who drove a top fuel car for Shelby in the 1968 season, the new Shelby features a 750 horsepower (over 800 on race fuel) version of the GT500's 5.4-liter V8 thanks to an upgraded Kenne Bell supercharger. <br /><br />Other modifications include a custom fiberglass full tilt front end, a Shelby rear drag wing, eight-point roll cage, six-piston front brakes, rear seat delete, coilover springs, custom Bogart wheels, and much more. Did we mention it's STREET LEGAL? Pricing comes in at a stout $99,995 to upgrade a currently titled car or $149,995 for a complete car. Production will be limited to just 100 examples. More details on the car and the history between Shelby and Prudhomme can be found in the press release <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/06/shelby-unleashes-750-horsepower-gt500-super-snake-prudhomme-edit/">after the jump</a>.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;">UPDATE</span><span style="font-style: italic;">: Video of unveiling added after the jump.</span><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/shelby-gt500-super-snake-prudhomme-edition">Shelby GT500 Super Snake Prudhomme Edition</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/shelby-gt500-super-snake-prudhomme-edition/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/shelbyprudhomme_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/shelby-gt500-super-snake-prudhomme-edition/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/shelbyprudhomme_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/shelby-gt500-super-snake-prudhomme-edition/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/shelbyprudhomme_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/shelby-gt500-super-snake-prudhomme-edition/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/shelbyprudhomme_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/shelby-gt500-super-snake-prudhomme-edition/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/shelbyprudhomme_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos copyright (C)2009 </small></strong><small><a href="http://www.drewphillipsphotography.com/"><strong><small>Drew Phillips</small></strong></a><strong> / Weblogs, Inc.</strong></small></em><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/06/shelby-unleashes-750-horsepower-gt500-super-snake-prudhomme-edit/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Shelby unleashes 750-horsepower GT500 Super Snake Prudhomme Edition</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/06/shelby-unleashes-750-horsepower-gt500-super-snake-prudhomme-edit/">Shelby unleashes 750-horsepower GT500 Super Snake Prudhomme Edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 06 Feb 2009 00:42:00 EST. Naturally, we assumed the car would be based on the 2010 model year, but the 2007-2008 Shelby GT will actually be used as the base platform. <br /><br />Each car gets a plethora of performance upgrades, including a Ford Racing supercharger good for 550 horsepower, a six-speed Tremec TR6060 transmission, 3.73:1 gears, Grand-Am spec roll cage, side-exit exhaust system, differential and transmission coolers, racing brakes with cooling ducts, unique grill, carbon fiber rear wing, and an "R Model" dash plaque. Production will be extremely limited, with Shelby promising to only build up to 37 examples, the same number produced as the original R-Model, at total cost of $134,995. The cars won't be legal for street use, but they do qualify for NASA American Iron's Extreme class. No pictures of the car have been released yet, but we will be sure to bring them to you as soon as we get our hands on them. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/30/new-shelby-mustang-revealed-as-race-only-r-model/">Hit the jump</a> for the press release from Shelby and more details on the new R-Model Mustang.<br /><br />[Source: Shelby Automobiles]<br /><br /><strong>UPDATE: </strong>The Model-R is not making its debut at the NHRA Winternationals.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/30/new-shelby-mustang-revealed-as-race-only-r-model/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New Shelby Mustang revealed as race-only 'R Model'</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/30/new-shelby-mustang-revealed-as-race-only-r-model/">New Shelby Mustang revealed as race-only 'R Model'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 30 Jan 2009 01:07:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for live, high-res shots of the 2010 Shelby GT500</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<p><br />After an extensive talk about the Ford's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/11/detroit-2009-ford-ready-to-electrify-the-masses/">efficiency-focused future</a>, in which we'll all be driving battery-powered vehicles with charging points at every parking space, President of the Americas Mark Fields, resplendent in his signature mullet, introduced the very now, very $1.50-gas-friendly <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/01/detroit-preview-2010-ford-shelby-gt500-bites-back/">2010 Shelby GT500</a>. The new snakes burbled to life backstage as the EV presentation came to an end -- almost in defiance of the shiny happy green talk. Thoughts of a lithium ion-utopia were vaporized when Fields theatrically announced the arrival of "the best Mustang ever." On cue, a Torch Red GT500 coupe with white stripes and a Grabber Blue GT500 ragtop with red stripes roared into the arena. Carroll Shelby emerged from the red car, the Shelby/Ford Mutual Admiration Society was called to order, and a big hug was exchanged between Fields and the living legend, who just turned 86. With the pleasantries out of the way, the GT500s <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-shelby-gt500-live/1279209/">left trails of rubber</a> as they made way for the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-shelby-gt500-live/1279209/">star</a> of Ford's show. Check out our new gallery of live shots below, which includes the Grabber Blue and Red Stripe number above, a color combo that Carroll reportedly picked out himself. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-shelby-gt500-live">Detroit 2009: 2010 Shelby GT500 Live</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-shelby-gt500-live/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/001_gt500detroit_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-shelby-gt500-live/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/002_gt500detroit_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-shelby-gt500-live/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/003_gt500detroit_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-shelby-gt500-live/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/004_gt500detroit_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2009-2010-shelby-gt500-live/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/005_gt500detroit_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-shelby-gt500-musang">2010 Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-shelby-gt500-musang/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/10shelbygt500_01_hr-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-shelby-gt500-musang/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/10shelbygt500_02_hr-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-shelby-gt500-musang/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/10shelbygt500_03_hr-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-shelby-gt500-musang/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/01/10shelbygt500_36_hr_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-shelby-gt500-musang/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/10shelbygt500_04_hr-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p>

News has <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/10/hug-it-out-saac-and-carroll-shelby-end-legal-battle/">quieted down </a>about the contention between <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/01/carroll-shelby-files-lawsuit-against-saac-to-enforce-agreement/">Caroll Shelby and the SAAC</a> just in time for Ken Eber, the club's national director, to steer the organization right into another lawsuit. This time, it's New Jersey Motorsports Park suing to recover nearly $116,000 it's been owed since last August. Both parties are trying to work the issue out, but Eber's assertion that the club has reached a verbal agreement on the issue and will be adding an event to the 2009 calendar doesn't jive with the venue's schedule, though Joe Savaro, a co-owner of the park, has indicated a desire to have the Shelby club back. <br /><br />Even though the park made a concession to allow the SAAC to pay for its use of the track after the event, Eber reportedly left the event early and wouldn't return to settle up. Eber says the club will be back at the park in 2009, and they'll be using whatever proceeds the event generates to make good on outstanding commitments. Let's see, a club that charges each of its reported 5,500 members $57 per year, that works out to $313,500, though the club uses those proceeds to run a decent website and produce a newsletter and magazine, as well as pay a couple of salaries. Perhaps pre-selling tickets might be a better idea this year? <br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.thedailyjournal.com/article/20081216/NEWS01/812160306/1002/rs">TheDailyJournal.com</a>] <br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/01/new-jersey-motorsports-park-suing-shelby-american-car-club/">New Jersey Motorsports Park Suing Shelby American Car Club</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 01 Jan 2009 12:55:00 EST. Last year, the very first <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/20/barrett-jackson-2008-2009-corvette-zr1-1-goes-for-a-cool-milli/">Corvette ZR1</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/20/barrett-jackson-2008-right-to-own-first-dodge-challenger-srt8-s/">Dodge Challenger</a>, and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/19/barrett-jackson-2008-first-2008-shelby-gt500-kr-sells-for-605/ ">Shelby GT500KR</a> all went across the block, and earlier this month it was announced that the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/17/first-retail-production-2010-camaro-to-be-auctioned-by-barrett-j/">first retail 2010 Camaro</a> would be available to the highest bidder. Not to be outdone, Ford has announced that a trio of their new offerings will be up for auction, the highlights of which will be the very first 2010 Mustang GT and Shelby GT500. This announcement all but confirms that the car will make its debut a few days earlier in Detroit. Also up for grabs will be the first 2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor. Proceeds for the auctions will be donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, providing more justification for collectors to bid on the vehicles.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-mustang-ab-la2008">2010 Ford Mustang</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-mustang-ab-la2008/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/03_mustang2010_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-mustang-ab-la2008/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/04_mustang2010_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-mustang-ab-la2008/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/05_mustang2010_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-mustang-ab-la2008/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/06_mustang2010_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-ford-mustang-ab-la2008/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/08_mustang2010_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Barrett-Jackson via <a href="http://www.mustangblog.com/index.php/2008/first-2010-mustang-and-2010-shelby-gt500-to-be-auctioned-at-barrett-jackson/">MustangBlog.com</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/28/first-2010-shelby-gt500-being-auctioned-at-barrett-jackson/">First 2010 Shelby GT500 being auctioned at Barrett-Jackson</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 28 Dec 2008 12:29:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Photo Copyright (C)2008 Ben Wojdyla / Jalopnik. Used with permission. </small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />Why wait for the Detroit Auto Show to see the 2010 Shelby GT500 when Ford's driving the thing around Detroit essentially undisguised? Jalopnik's Ben Wojdyla had the convertible version roll right up next to him at a stoplight in Royal Oak, which gave him the opening he needed to grab a bunch of good shots of the forthcoming snake. So, what's new? Well, obviously, the general 2010 Mustang cues all carry over to the range-topper, which also gets a good-looking set of alloys, huge grille openings up front, a heat extractor hood, and all the requisite badging. Ben says the GT500's gutsy exhaust note blended with a hint blower whine sounds as good as it did before. We're digging the black paint with Grabber Blue stripes, too. Ford drives the new GT500 onstage at Cobo in just over a month from now, and we'll be there, as usual. In the meantime, head over to <a href="http://jalopnik.com/5103567/2010-shelby-gt500?skyline=true&amp;s=i">Jalopnik</a> for a full gallery showing the 2010 GT500 from a number of angles. <br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://jalopnik.com/5103567/2010-shelby-gt500?skyline=true&amp;s=i">Jalopnik</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/07/spy-shots-2010-shelby-gt500-gets-jalopd/">Spy Shots: 2010 Shelby GT500 gets Jalop'd</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 07 Dec 2008 12:38:00 EST. <p>In the hustle and bustle of SEMA last week we missed the announcement that Shelby Automobiles will be sponsoring the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motorspeedway in March. The race will actually be lengthened to 427 miles and will be called the 'Shelby 427'. We think it would be more historically appropriate for Shelby to sponsor a road racing event, but the company's proximity to the race track and the better marketing reach make NASCAR a logical choice.</p>
<p>In conjunction with the sponsorship, Shelby will be offering a 427 package for the GT500. Hoping for a 427ci engine conversion? So were we, but prepare to be disappointed. The 427 package will be a simple badge job and will include "Mr. Shelby's personal autograph as well as many other event-related add-ons." Those who purchase the package will also receive race tickets and the possibility to serve as the race's honorary starter. Full details on the race and the 427 upgrade package are in the press release after the jump.</p>

<p>Big engine, small car. This simple idea was such a successful formula for Carroll's Cobras in the 1960's that it still lives on today. In addition to numerous kit cars available, Shelby offers his own version that comes with a CSX4000 chassis number. It's up to the owner to decide what engine to put in the car, lending to some pretty wild variations. This example might just be the most extreme, with a supercharged V8 pushing out a cool 1,000 horsepower. Built by Nevada Classics, Inc. and Sean Hyland Motorsport in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada, the King Cobra utilizes the all-aluminum 5.4L V8 from the Ford GT500 fitted with a 2.8L Kenne Bell supercharger and runs on E85 ethanol. Additional upgrades were made to accommodate the engine and the suspension and brakes were beefed up to account for the extra horsepower. A short press release can be found after the jump, and our high-resolution photos of this wicked snake are in the gallery below. </p>

That's not to say getting one of the 500 Hertz Shelby Mustang GT-H Convertibles (sheesh, that's a mouthful!) that were built in 2007 is a bad thing, but nobody really knows if these vehicles will ever really gain in value over more pedestrian versions of Ford's iconic pony car like their forebears have. Rest assured, though, you are not going to be bidding the same <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/02/video-shelby-gt-h-convertible-unveiling-and-auction/">$250,000</a> that collector Ron Pratte paid for serial #001. For reference, the last batch of rent-a-racers that were auctioned off managed <a href="http://www.kruse.com/results/return.asp?MAKE=Ford&amp;AUC_CODE=AUBSPR08&amp;AUC_BREAD=Auburn%2C%20IN%202008&amp;SEARCH_NAME=Ford&amp;YEAR=2008&amp;RESULTS=1&amp;PAGE=3">about $33K per unit</a>.<br /><br />The car itself is powered by a 319-horsepower version of Ford's ubiquitous 4.6-liter three-valve V8 engine mated to an automatic transmission -- perfect for the kind of top-down summer cruising that these vehicles are likely to see. If you want one of the 25 going up for auction, they'll be at the <a href="http://www.kruse.com/auctions/monterey08/index.asp">Kruse Select Auction</a> in Monterey, CA next week. <br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.kruse.com/auctions/return.asp?LOT_BEGIN=0&amp;LOT_END=0&amp;AUC_CODE=MONTEREY08&amp;AUC_BREAD=Monterey%202008&amp;SEARCH_NAME=Complete%20List&amp;PAGE=2">Kruse</a> via <a href="http://jalopnik.com/400074/hertz-to-auction-25-shelby-mustang-gt+h-convertibles-at-monterey-kruse-auction">Jalopnik</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/08/hertz-to-auction-25-shelby-mustang-gt-h-convertibles/">Hertz to auction 25 Shelby Mustang GT-H Convertibles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 08 Aug 2008 13:58:00 EST. <p>The Shelby Daytona Coupe is the embodiment of classic American motorsports. The only problem is that putting a genuine Daytona Coupe in the garage is nearly impossible. There are only a handful in the world, and the price tag would be in the millions of dollars (if you could find an owner willing to part with one). A few years ago, Superformance and Peter Brock, the original designer of the Daytona Coupe, created a modern replica version that made owning the legendary race car much more affordable. Now, Shelby Distribution has announced it will offer an aluminum-bodied version of that same coupe. Like the Shelby CSX4000 and Commemorative GT40 continuation vehicles, the Daytona Coupe will be listed in the Shelby Registry. In addition to the new skin, the Daytona Coupe also features an updated suspension system that will be shared with the upcoming MkII version of the Superformance Coupe. You can check out a gallery of the aluminum bodied prototype under construction below, as well as the current Superformance Shelby Daytona Coupe.</p>

Ford is one of the event sponsors and is backing the Shelby effort, which will field four CSX4000 Shelby 427 Cobras in the event. To hear Carroll Shelby tell it, there's probably more to come. In Ford's official announcement (pasted after the jump), Shelby is quoted as saying, "My goal is to return us to professional racing and this is just the beginning." Does that mean we'll be seeing factory-backed Shelby Mustangs in other racing series as well? Who knows. Still, it's kinda cool that the team's official return is at a vintage event, driving brand-new continuation-series cars like the ones that started this whole thing way back when. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/vintage-shelby-racing-photos">Vintage Shelby racing photos</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/vintage-shelby-racing-photos/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/shelbyracing_vintage_08_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/vintage-shelby-racing-photos/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/shelbyracing_vintage_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/vintage-shelby-racing-photos/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/shelbyracing_vintage_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/vintage-shelby-racing-photos/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/shelbyracing_vintage_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/vintage-shelby-racing-photos/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/shelbyracing_vintage_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Ford / Shelby Autos]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/16/shelby-racing-returns-to-the-track/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Shelby Racing returns to the track</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/16/shelby-racing-returns-to-the-track/">Shelby Racing returns to the track</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 16 Jul 2008 14:02:00 EST.
