<div align="center"><em><strong><small>2007 Hyundai Veloster concept - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />Last February, we revealed that a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/11/coupe-scoop-scoupe-hyundais-veloster-concept-headed-for-pr/">production version of the Hyundai Veloster</a> was in the works and would likely hit the market as a late 2011 or 2012 model. At the time, we were hoping for a modern reincarnation of the classic Honda CRX, and it seems like Hyundai may be answering our calls.<br /><br />Speaking to <em>Inside Line</em>, Hyundai of America's President and CEO John Krafcik says the new machine will look 70% to 80% like the Veloster concept that we saw firsthand at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/la-auto-show/">LA Auto Show</a> in 2007, and it will feature some sort of unique styling element. Says Krafcik, "It might be doors or a unique roof or something with the hatch. But it won't be like anything out there before in the small car segment."<br /><br /> Krafcik goes on to say the car will be significantly smaller than the firm's own Genesis Coupe (not to mention the Kia Forte) and it will be powered by a 1.6-liter four-banger fortified with direct injection that will offer up 140 horsepower while returning over 40 miles per gallon.<br /><br />"Think of it like a four-passenger Honda CRX. It'll be a little car you can take out and wring its neck and still get good mileage," he said. "Fun and economical, with a great power-to-weight ratio." Sounds like a winner. All that's left to figure out is the car's name, which may or may not end up being either Veloster or Tiburon.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-veloster-concept/">Hyundai Veloster Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-veloster-concept/206927/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/04/veloster_hi_004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-veloster-concept/206925/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/04/veloster_hi_002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-veloster-concept/206926/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/04/veloster_hi_003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-veloster-concept/206924/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/04/veloster_hi_001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-veloster-concept/206928/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/04/veloster_hi_005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://blogs.edmunds.com/straightline/2009/07/il-exclusive-2012-hyundai-veloster-will-get-140-hp-and-direct-injection.html">Inside Line</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/08/hyundai-ceo-krafcik-on-pending-veloster-production-car-think-o/">Hyundai CEO Krafcik on production Veloster: "Think of it like a four-passenger Honda CRX"</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 08 Jul 2009 20:00:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>2011 Hyundai Sonata spy shots - Click above for image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />One of our loyal readers was vacationing in Dubai when he happened upon this nearly undisguised and totally unattended 2011 Hyundai Sonata mule. Sammy_R-Gti of <a href="http://www.assayyarat.com/">assayarat.com</a> explains that he was driving around on vacation and stopped to observe mid-day prayer at a mosque. When he emerged from said house of prayer, he spied the car parked outside of a neighboring spa resort (perhaps some engineers were taking a much-deserved break?), and our man was able to rattle off the photos seen here. Because Sammy_R-Gti (correctly) figured that whoever was with the car probably wouldn't want him photographing their quarry, our man didn't have time to take it all in, but he did gain perhaps the best look yet at Hyundai's pivotal new sedan. <br /><br />As expected, the roofline and short rear deck indicates that the Korean automaker is going for a much more rakish look, adopting the 'four-door coupe' aesthetic that is so in vogue these days. Unlike <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/24/spy-shots-rakish-2011-hyundai-sonata-draws-closer/">earlier spy shots</a>, Sammy has managed to score an almost completely undisguised look at the car's Lexus ES350-like headlamps and its simple three-bar front grille, as well as new details about the sheetmetal's contouring. Judging by the fact that this prototype was fitted with relatively high-profile tires and modestly sized steel wheels with covers, we're guessing that it is a base model.<br /><br />Check out the gallery of images below.<em> Thanks for the shots, Sammy!<br /></em><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-hyundai-sonata-spy-shots/">2010 Hyundai Sonata - spy shots</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-hyundai-sonata-spy-shots/2131667/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/djsammy_dsc00300hda_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-hyundai-sonata-spy-shots/2131665/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/djsammy_dsc00301y_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-hyundai-sonata-spy-shots/2131664/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/djsammy_dsc00302c_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-hyundai-sonata-spy-shots/2131663/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/djsammy_dsc00304_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-hyundai-sonata-spy-shots/2131666/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/djsammy_dsc00305c_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Sammy_R-Gti of <a href="http://www.assayyarat.com/">assayyarat.com</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/08/reader-spy-nearly-undisguised-next-gen-hyundai-sonata-snapped-i/">Reader Spy: Nearly undisguised next-gen Hyundai Sonata snapped in Dubai!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 08 Jul 2009 10:28:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Hyundai Blue-Will Concept - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />Hyundai's first-ever hybrid automobile for the U.S. market will be <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2008/11/19/la-2008-hyundai-announces-blue-drive-efficiency-strategy-2010/">based on the redesigned 2011 Sonata midsize sedan</a>, but it certainly isn't the only fuel-saver the Korean automaker has in store. According to <em>Automotive News</em>, Yang Woong-chul, president of R&amp;D for Hyundai-Kia Motors, has reiterated his company's plans to aggressively (if belatedly) enter the increasingly crowded hybrid market.<br /><br />To that end, Hyundai plans to launch a new sporty plug-in electric car based on the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/25/hyundai-blue-will-concept-headed-for-seoul/">striking Blue-Will concept</a> from Seoul Motor Show earlier this year. Powered by a 1.6-liter gasoline direct-injected powerplant and 100kw electric motor mated up with a continuously variable transmission, the Blue-Will reportedly has a range of 38 miles in EV mode and an overall rating of 55 mpg when the gas engine is in operation.<br /><br />Expect a similar drivetrain for the production car when it hits the market in 2012 to go up against the upcoming Chevrolet Volt and the plug-in version of Toyota's standard-bearing Prius hybrid. So far, there's no word on expected pricing for the PHEV, but Hyundai says the goal is to 'show its technology and improve its image,' not to make money. Consider our interest piqued.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/photos/hyundai-will-blue-hybrid-concept/">Hyundai BLUE-WILL hybrid concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/photos/hyundai-will-blue-hybrid-concept/1452487/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/03/250309hyu_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/photos/hyundai-will-blue-hybrid-concept/1452486/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/03/250309-b-hyu_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/photos/hyundai-will-blue-hybrid-concept/1452485/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/03/250309-a-hyu_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autonews.com/article/20090706/ANA03/307069944">Automotive News</a> - sub. req'd]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/07/report-hyundai-planning-blue-will-based-sporty-plug-in-hybrid-b/">REPORT: Hyundai planning Blue-Will based sporty plug-in hybrid by 2012</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 07 Jul 2009 08:59:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>2009 Hyundai Elantra Touring - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />While the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration doesn't plan to release its final rules and regulations for the Car Allowance Rebate System (CARS), otherwise known as Cash-for-Clunkers program, until July 23rd, Hyundai has decided that its customers don't have to wait. Alexandria Hyundai in Alexandria, VA has already accepted the first trade-in and doled out its first rebate. The clunker is a 15-mpg 1995 Ford Explorer, and Katherine Michon of Arlington, VA traded it in for a $4,500 credit on a brand new 26-mpg <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/04/review-2009-hyundai-elantra-touring/">Hyundai Elantra Touring</a>. <br /><br />How can Hyundai get away with accepting clunkers early? The automaker is giving dealers short-term cash advances to cover the cost of its rebates until the CARS program officially kicks off later this month. Hyundai has 13 models with particular engine combinations that qualify for CARS, and the NHTSA has already confirmed that transactions on or after July 1, 2009 are eligible.<br /><br />This could be a brilliant move on Hyundai's part, since its own internal research shows that 11 percent of car shoppers have delayed their purchase to take advantage of the rebates. If Hyundai is the only game in town that's accepting trade-ins and giving rebates early, it could steal a few sales away from other brands that are waiting patiently for the program to officially begin. <br /><br />On the other hand, the NHTSA warns on the <a href="http://www.cars.gov/">CARS official website</a> that "interested dealers and consumers may want to wait until all of the detailed issues that must be addressed in the implementing regulations are resolved and the final rule is issued." By that time, however, you'll be driving around in a new car and getting reimbursed for the rebate will by Hyundai's problem.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2009-hyundai-elantra-touring/">Review: 2009 Hyundai Elantra Touring</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2009-hyundai-elantra-touring/1532444/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/000_elantratouring_review_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2009-hyundai-elantra-touring/1532468/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/004_elantratouring_review_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2009-hyundai-elantra-touring/1532445/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/001_elantratouring_review_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2009-hyundai-elantra-touring/1532463/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/002_elantratouring_review_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2009-hyundai-elantra-touring/1532478/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/003_elantratouring_review_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Hyundai]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/02/hyundai-starts-accepting-cash-for-clunkers-trade-ins-early/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hyundai starts accepting Cash-for-Clunkers trade-ins early</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/02/hyundai-starts-accepting-cash-for-clunkers-trade-ins-early/">Hyundai starts accepting Cash-for-Clunkers trade-ins early</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 02 Jul 2009 17:28:00 EST. <br />We can only imagine how exciting a day it would be to bring home a brand spanking new Chevrolet Corvette Z06. <span style="font-style: italic;">Genesis Owners</span> forum member zedbuyers was feeling that love as he and his wife left a Massachusetts Chevy dealer with a spanking new Cyber Gray Metallic Z06. Zedbuyers was driving from the dealer in the rain with his wife following behind in the couples' nine-month-old Genesis Sedan when disaster struck.<br /><br />As traffic slowed from 60 mph to 30 mph in the exit lane, zedbuyers applied the brakes, but his wife evidently didn't. The Genesis slammed into the hours-old Z06, thrusting the $80,000 supercar into the vehicle in front of it. Oddly, the Genesis took the brunt of the blow, and a local Hyundai dealer estimated the damage at $16,000, including nearly $2,000 for the HID headlamps alone. The Z06 damage was $10,000, including $2,000 for a carbon fiber bumper. <br /><br />Luckily, nobody was seriously injured in the accident, but we're sure the owner is smarting none the less. We're guessing the insurance company is not going to react kindly to a combined $26,000 in damages only hours after the purchase of what is likely a very expensive vehicle to insure in the first place. Peruse the gallery below to check out the carnage, and <a href="http://www.genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showthread.php?p=24051#post24051">click on the link below</a> for zedbuyers' damage estimates.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/genesis-crashes-into-corvette-z06/">Genesis crashes into Corvette Z06</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/genesis-crashes-into-corvette-z06/2121205/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/user475_pic1004_1246277245_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/genesis-crashes-into-corvette-z06/2121204/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/user475_pic1003_1246277245_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/genesis-crashes-into-corvette-z06/2121203/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/user475_pic1002_1246277245_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/genesis-crashes-into-corvette-z06/2121202/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/user475_pic1001_1246277245_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/genesis-crashes-into-corvette-z06/2121201/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/user475_pic1000_1246277245_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showthread.php?p=24051#post24051">Genesis Owners</a> via <a href="http://jalopnik.com/5305656/husbands-new-corvette-z06-hit-by-wifes-hyundai-genesis/gallery/">Jalopnik</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/02/double-oops-wife-plows-into-mans-new-chevy-corvette-z06-in/">Double Oops: Wife plows into husband's new Chevy Corvette Z06... in her Hyundai Genesis</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 02 Jul 2009 13:29:00 EST. <br />Well, imagine that. People like cheap gas. Enough, in fact, that they're willing to line up in droves just for the privilege of filling up their tanks. As if you needed further proof of this unfailing truth, here are the pictures to prove it. As part of its new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/30/new-hyundai-assurance-provision-locks-gas-at-1-49-gal-for-one-y/">Hyundai Assurance Gas Lock promotion</a>, the Korean automaker ran an unannounced campaign in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles where consumers could purchase gas for just $1.49 per gallon.<br /><br />The catch? There was just one location in each cities where the program was in effect and the location was kept secret until an hour before the promotion began. In a nod to modern social media users, Hyundai sent the information to its Twitter followers (<a href="http://twitter.com/hyundainews">@hyundainews</a>) just before local radio stations announced the promotion city-wide about an hour before it started. Predictably, a mad rush to each location ensued. Nice little PR stunt, no?<br /><br />Click past the break for the press release and check out the images of the madness shot on location at the Horace Harding BP gas station in New York. Similar scenes were reported in Chicago and LA.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-gas-promotion-traffic/">Hyundai gas promotion traffic</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-gas-promotion-traffic/2119202/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/hyundai_gas_promotion_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-gas-promotion-traffic/2119203/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/hyundai_gas_promotion_2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-gas-promotion-traffic/2119204/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/hyundai_gas_promotion_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/01/hyundais-1-49-fuel-promo-causing-traffic-jams-at-gas-stations/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hyundai's $1.49 fuel promo causing traffic jams at gas stations across the country?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/01/hyundais-1-49-fuel-promo-causing-traffic-jams-at-gas-stations/">Hyundai's $1.49 fuel promo causing traffic jams at gas stations across the country?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 01 Jul 2009 18:58:00 EST. <br />Hyundai is piling on additional incentives to boost its Assurance program as the industry heads into the dog days of summer. The newest promotion, Gas Lock, fixes the price of regular unleaded at $1.49 per gallon for the next year. The program runs July 1 through August 31, and eligible vehicles include the Accent, Sonata, Tiburon, Elantra, Elantra Touring, Entourage, Azera, Santa Fe, Tucson and Veracruz. Customers choosing to utilize Gas Lock will forgo $1,000 in available rebates, making the incentive a gamble that gas prices will remain high.<br /><br />Hyundai Assurance struck at cord with the American public when it offered <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/20/hyundai-assurance-plus-adds-90-day-payment-relief-to-popular-p/">payment protection</a> in the event of job loss. Now Hyundai is looking to give consumers increased peace of mind over of the volatility of gas prices, which have swung from under $2 a gallon a few months ago to nearly $3 at the beginning of summer.<br /><br />John Krafcik, CEO and president of Hyundai Motor America, says the company's research shows that "nearly 40% of potential new car buyers are staying out of the market specifically due to uncertainty around future gas prices." <br /><br />You may remember that last year, Chrysler tried a similar promotion, offering the opportunity to lock in gas at $2.99 per gallon when a gallon of petrol was at an all-time high of about $4.50. The move didn't appear to be very successful for the Pentastar, as most opted to instead take the upfront cash on the hood. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/30/new-hyundai-assurance-provision-locks-gas-at-1-49-gal-for-one-y/">Hit the jump</a> to pour over the particulars of Hyundai's Gas Lock promotion, watch the two commercials, and let us know in the comments section if you feel customers would be better off taking the $1,000 or one year of $1.49 gasoline.<br /><br />[Source: Hyundai | Image: Justin Sullivan/Getty]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/30/new-hyundai-assurance-provision-locks-gas-at-1-49-gal-for-one-y/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New Hyundai Assurance provision locks gas at $1.49/gal for one year [w/VIDEO]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/30/new-hyundai-assurance-provision-locks-gas-at-1-49-gal-for-one-y/">New Hyundai Assurance provision locks gas at $1.49/gal for one year [w/VIDEO]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 30 Jun 2009 11:28:00 EST. <br />According to an anonymous source at Hyundai, buyers in the U.S. will get their first crack at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/HyundaiEquus/">Hyundai Equus</a> sedan beginning next July, with a cost of entry somewhere south of $60,000.<br /><br />The Genesis-based sedan, which stretches a little over seven inches longer than Hyundai's first attempt at entry-level luxury, is available in Korea with either the Genesis' 3.8-liter V6 or 4.6-liter V8. However, Stateside buyers will only be able to purchase the bent-eight model when sales begin next summer.<br /><br />Hyundai's primary aim with the Equus is to compete with the similarly priced Lexus LS460 ($64,700), while offering more luxury amenities including reclining rear seats, massagers and LCD displays. According to Rick Case, the owner of six Hyundai dealerships in North America, "It won't be a volume model for us. It will be a halo car for the brand." If you want to scope out the Korean-market Equus before sales begin next year, 100 sedans are currently available for evaluation at dealerships across the country.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-hyundai-equus-1/">New York: Hyundai Equus</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-hyundai-equus-1/1480548/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/000_equus_nyca_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-hyundai-equus-1/1480542/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/001_equus_nyca_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-hyundai-equus-1/1480546/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/002_equus_nyca_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-hyundai-equus-1/1480547/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/003_equus_nyca_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/new-york-hyundai-equus-1/1480545/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/004_equus_nyca_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autoweek.com/article/20090629/CARNEWS/906299993">Autoweek</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/29/report-hyundai-equus-coming-to-the-states-in-july-2010-priced/">REPORT: Hyundai Equus coming to the States in July 2010, priced under $60,000</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 29 Jun 2009 14:28:00 EST. <br /><br />The dynamic duo of Chris and Sam carry off Episode #133 of the Autoblog Podcast without a hitch. Though down a man, the pair didn't cheap out on topics or duration, it's the same podcast goodness. It kicks off with Hyundai's impressive showing in the recently released <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/22/lexus-leads-hyundai-improves-while-infiniti-drops-in-j-d-powe/">Initial Quality Survey results</a>. From there, they hit <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/22/report-chrysler-pondering-whether-sebring-avenger-replacements/">Chrysler's RWD/FWD dilemma</a> with its Sebring/Avenger replacement, the rumor that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/22/report-s197-ford-mustang-could-have-had-independent-rear-suspen/">Mustangs could have had IRS</a> for $100 per car, and reports of an <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/22/four-play-gm-confirms-2010-buick-lacrosse-will-be-available-wit/">Ecotec engine for the Buick LaCrosse</a>. Keeping it on the Buick tip, spyshots of a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/22/spy-shots-buick-getting-its-own-cruze-variant/">Tri-Shield variant of the new 2010 Astra</a> get mentioned. The<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/22/report-bankruptcy-allows-gm-chrysler-to-shed-hundreds-of-produ/"> nullification of all pre-bankruptcy liability claims</a> against GM and Chrysler is next before talk settles briefly on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/22/connecting-the-dots-hyundais-2011-product-plans/">Hyundai's 2010-on lineup</a> and then turns to your questions. <br />Hyundai's relentless pursuit of market share continues unabated, and according to Autoweek.nl, the Korean automaker plans to bring four new models to market between now and 2011 to solidify its stronghold.<br /><br />In addition to the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/31/more-details-emerge-about-hyundais-veloster-like-tiburon-replac/">Veloster-like Tiburon replacement</a> rumored to debut at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/FrankfurtMotorShow/">Frankfurt Motor Show</a> this September, a production version of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/04/geneva-2009-hyundai-ix-onic-concept-is-far-more-enticing-than-i/">ix-onic crossover</a>, originally shown in concept form at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/GenevaMotorShow/">Geneva Motor Show</a>, is expected to debut sometime next year packing the same turbocharged 1.6-liter inline four as Hyundai's Tiburon successor and carrying an ix35 badge on the hatch.<br /><br />Hyundai also plans to expand the i20 and i30 range in late 2010 by adding two MPV versions, one measuring 161 inches long and approximately 63 inches high, and another, slightly larger people mover with seating for seven. The following year, Hyundai will reportedly launch an all-new i40 (Sonata on these shores) to better compete with the Volkswagen Passat and Opel Insignia abroad. Taking inspiration from the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/03/01/geneva-motor-show-hyundais-genus/">Genus concept</a>, both sedan and wagon versions will be available along with a range of four- and six-cylinder engines. Expect the new Tibbie to arrive in the U.S. late next year, followed by the Sonata replacement in 2012, and don't be surprised to see at least one new CUV from Hyundai within the next two years.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/geneva-2009-hyundai-ix-onic-concept/">Geneva 2009: Hyundai ix-onic concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/geneva-2009-hyundai-ix-onic-concept/1407235/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/149914_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/geneva-2009-hyundai-ix-onic-concept/1407236/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/149913_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/geneva-2009-hyundai-ix-onic-concept/1407379/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/01-gen-09-hyundai-ix-onic-live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/geneva-2009-hyundai-ix-onic-concept/1407381/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/02-gen-09-hyundai-ix-onic-live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/geneva-2009-hyundai-ix-onic-concept/1407382/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/03-gen-09-hyundai-ix-onic-live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autoweek.nl/autonieuws/11990/Exclusief-productplanning-Hyundai-tot-2011">Autoweek.nl</a> via <a href="http://www.worldcarfans.com/9090622.004/details-of-hyundais-product-plan-until-2011-surface">WCF</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/22/connecting-the-dots-hyundais-2011-product-plans/">Connecting the Dots: Hyundai's 2011 product plans</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 22 Jun 2009 16:28:00 EST. <br />Hyundai's Montgomery, AL factory added production of four-cylinder engines last year, but recently the engine line has been getting some upgrades. Evidently, Hyundai is getting ready to add direct injection to its 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. Like other DI engines, the revised version gets increased power along with lower fuel consumption. The DI four cylinder will debut in the refreshed 2010 Santa Fe this fall. Next year, when the completely redesigned Sonata goes into production, it will also get the DI engine. <br /><br />Power from the DI four cylinder gets bumped from 176 to 200 hp, and it will likely get around 5-10% better gas mileage. The all-new Sonata will be unveiled at the <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/category/LA-Auto-Show/">LA Auto Show</a> in November. Next year a hybrid model will join the lineup, as well. <br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com/article/20090614/NEWS01/906140302/Changes+planned+for+Hyundai+models">Montgomery Advertiser</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/18/2010-hyundai-santa-fe-sonata-to-get-direct-inject-four-cylinder/">2010 Hyundai Santa Fe, Sonata to get direct-inject four-cylinder engines</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 18 Jun 2009 17:31:00 EST. While there are likely a few tweaks around back and inside, we won't know for sure until we can source additional images and information.<br /><br />Regardless, as we hear it, the Korean Domestic Market cute-ute will offer a choice of four-cylinder diesel powerplants - a 2.0-liter mill giving 137 kW and 392 Nm of torque (184 hp and 289 lb-ft), while a bigger 2.2-liter powerplant is said to provide 149 kW and 436 Nm of twist (200 hp and 322 lb-ft<em></em><em></em>).<br /><br />We asked our sources at Hyundai if we could expect to see these changes, and while they stopped short of confirming this exact facelift, AB's mole did allow that a "freshened" model is indeed expected in dealers early next year. Better yet, that model will include new powertrain options - but sadly, no diesel. <br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://es.autoblog.com/2009/06/15/nuevo-hyundai-santa-fe-2010/">Autoblog Spanish</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/16/kdm-hyundai-santa-fe-gets-a-facelift-for-2010-is-the-u-s-nex/">KDM Hyundai Santa Fe gets a facelift for 2010... is the U.S. next?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 16 Jun 2009 17:27:00 EST. Low speed incidents in parking lots and on tight city streets are everyday occurrences that seemingly shouldn't cost a lot to set right, but they apparently wind up costing consumers many thousands of dollars each year. The smallest cars on the market also have tiny price tags, making the price of repairs a much larger percentage of what the vehicle cost in the first place. The IIHS recently evaluated the bumpers of some of the tiniest vehicles on the market in low-speed incidents, and the results dovetail with the agency's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/14/iihs-finds-sub-compacts-fair-poorly-again/">equally low impressions</a> of vehicle-to-vehicle impact performance of small-segment vehicles. A new damage assessment criteria was used to more closely mirror reality, and the cars underwent four tests: two corner impacts and two full width impacts on the bumpers. <br /><br />Of the seven cars tested, only the Smart ForTwo earned an "acceptable" rating, with most of the pack scoring "poor." Worst was the Kia Rio's startling $9,380 total damage tally, by far the most expensive showing in the test. The Honda Fit and Mini Cooper may be more highly regarded in the small car segment, but both of those models also score poorly. <br /><br />In diametric opposition to what anyone might actually enjoy driving, the Smart ForTwo and the Chevrolet Aveo came out best in terms of repair costs, bashing their way to $3,281 and $4,490 in total damage, respectively. It's clear from the IIHS' testing where bumpers often failed to engage or slid under the test barrier, that the way improve on the tests is to pay closer attention to bumper position in all circumstances when designing a car. If the bumper doesn't match up properly, bodywork ends up bearing the brunt of the impact, making even low-speed collisions expensive propositions. <span style="font-style: italic;">Hit the jump to see a video and a chart of the results along with the full release.</span><br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.iihs.org/news/rss/pr061109.html#">Insurance Institute for Highway Safety</a><a href="http://jalopnik.com/5287016/iihs-small-cars-are-big-on-damage-in-low+speed-collisions" />]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/15/iihs-small-car-bumpers-cost-big-bucks-to-repair/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>IIHS: Small car bumpers cost big bucks to repair</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/15/iihs-small-car-bumpers-cost-big-bucks-to-repair/">IIHS: Small car bumpers cost big bucks to repair</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 15 Jun 2009 09:29:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>2010 Hyundai Verna Transform/Accent - Click above for an image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />On Wednesday, we brought you the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/03/hyundai-gives-kdm-facelifted-accent-is-the-u-s-next/">first pictures of Hyundai's new Transform</a>, a Korean market derivative of the Verna hatchback that is a close relative of our stateside Accent, the automaker's lowest-cost offering. For 2010, the KDM Verna Transform model incorporates a unique front fascia and a controversial looking grille among other changes. The big question we had on our mind after seeing it was: Is this model bound for the U.S. - or was it simply another foreign Accent?<br /><br />Well, we put exactly that question to Hyundai P.R. manager Dan Bedore, and he indicates that the Verna Transform is not representative of what we will see in the U.S. - on the contrary, our Accent successor "...will have a distinct, exciting new look of its own when it is introduced. The Verna Transform pictured here is a sport package for the KDM model Verna only."<br /><br />Bedore went on to confirm that the next U.S. Accent is part of the company's 24/7 plan (which will see seven new model introductions over a 24 month period that began with the rollout of the Genesis Coupe). While we're not privy to the salacious specifics of Hyundai's product calendar, we expect to see the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/20/spy-shots-2010-hyundai-tucson-caught-frolicking-in-the-snow/">new Tucson crossover</a> join the family next, followed either by the aforementioned Accent replacement or the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/31/more-details-emerge-about-hyundais-veloster-like-tiburon-replac/">Veloster-based 2+2 sporty coupe</a>.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-hyundai-verna-transform-accent/">2010 Hyundai Verna Transform/Accent</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-hyundai-verna-transform-accent/2057144/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/01-2010-hyundai-accent-leak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-hyundai-verna-transform-accent/2057145/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/02-2010-hyundai-accent-leak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-hyundai-verna-transform-accent/2057146/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/03-2010-hyundai-accent-leak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-hyundai-verna-transform-accent/2057147/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/04-2010-hyundai-accent-leak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-hyundai-verna-transform-accent/2057148/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/05-2010-hyundai-accent-leak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/05/verna-transform-is-i-not-i-americas-next-strike-top-model/">Verna Transform is <i>not</i> America's next <strike>top model</strike> Hyundai Accent</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 05 Jun 2009 18:58:00 EST. <br />Hyundai's released a handful of images of the redesigned Verna Transform, or, as it's known in markets outside of Korea, the Accent. This 2010 model receives a thoroughly redesigned front fascia that's strikingly similar to the recently released <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/SubaruLegacy/">Subaru Legacy</a>, with a deep air dam, oversized front grille, foglights, and sculpted bumper that accentuates the pointed and drawn headlamps. The sides appear largely unchanged, and although there's only one image of the redesigned rump, expect the taillights to continue the bulbous theme out back.<br /><br />Inside, the center stack has been modified with new faux aluminum trim and upgraded materials, while the green illumination of the instrumentation has been ditched in favor of a new blue hue. Motivation comes courtesy of a 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engine and Hyundai Korea will continue to offer an "Eco" indicator on the dash that encourages a light foot. The redesigned Verna is rumored to hit Korean dealers this month, although it's unclear if or when this version of the Accent will be headed to the States.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-hyundai-verna-transform-accent/">2010 Hyundai Verna Transform/Accent</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-hyundai-verna-transform-accent/2057144/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/01-2010-hyundai-accent-leak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-hyundai-verna-transform-accent/2057145/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/02-2010-hyundai-accent-leak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-hyundai-verna-transform-accent/2057146/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/03-2010-hyundai-accent-leak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-hyundai-verna-transform-accent/2057147/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/04-2010-hyundai-accent-leak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-hyundai-verna-transform-accent/2057148/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/05-2010-hyundai-accent-leak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.hyundai-blog.com/index.php/2009/06/03/hyundai-shows-first-images-of-accent-facelift/">Hyundai-Blog</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/03/hyundai-gives-kdm-facelifted-accent-is-the-u-s-next/">Hyundai gives KDM facelifted Accent - is the U.S. next?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 03 Jun 2009 19:31:00 EST. The program was so perfect for our economic times that General Motors and Ford eventually followed suit with very similar offers. But according to <em>The New York Times,</em> Hyundai's marketing magic may have worn out with the South Korean automaker's newest offer - an incentive that sounds great until you dig just beneath the surface. <br /><br />The new Hyundai campaign promises to pay <em>customers</em> during the first six vehicle payments on any model purchased before June 30. As you likely already know, the payment paradigm usually works the other way around, and the new Hyundai plan sounds like a real winner for the customer. In fact, though, the payment basically takes the place of a lump sum cash incentive that would normally be due at signing. That's right, we're talking about the repackaging of existing customer rebates. In this case, you get six small payments (on a Visa card) spread out over six months instead of one big rebate that you would traditionally receive up front. When considering the fact that the standard lump sum rebate can often be used to lower your car payments - while also taking a bite out of interest payments through the life of the loan - we'll take our rebates the old fashioned way.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/05/28/hyundai-will-pay-you-to-buy-a-car-kind-of/">The New York Times</a> via <a href="http://blogs.cars.com/kickingtires/2009/06/hyundais-confusing-monthly-cash-back-commercials.html">Kicking Tires</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/03/report-new-hyundai-we-pay-you-for-buying-our-cars-campaign-re/">New Hyundai 'We pay you for buying our cars' campaign really just deferred incentives?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 03 Jun 2009 10:57:00 EST. More than a few we spoke with, however, expressed disappointment that it did not arrive in showrooms with an optional in-dash navigation unit, particularly since Hyundai was plainly targeting premium competitors like the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/InfinitiG37/">Infiniti G37</a>. Well, we've just returned from the company's HATCI facility (Hyundai-Kia American Technical Center, Inc.) in Ann Arbor, and we're happy to report that we've been given an in-depth look at a prototype of the company's next-generation system that will find its way into the Genesis Coupe beginning later this summer. <br /><br /><strong>Fair Warning:</strong> The accompanying photographs are of a rough engineering prototype unit, but we thought our readers would appreciate the early look. As is typical of such mules, the instrument panel is more than a bit tired looking from having its "head unit swapped out more often than you change your underwear" (so says Dan Bedore, Hyundai's quick-witted P.R. manager).<br /><br />Click on the jump to get the full skinny.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-genesis-coupe-navi-sneak-peek/">Hyundai Genesis Coupe navi sneak peek</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-genesis-coupe-navi-sneak-peek/2038567/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/gen_navi032_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-genesis-coupe-navi-sneak-peek/2038565/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/gen_navi033_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-genesis-coupe-navi-sneak-peek/2038562/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/gen_navi034_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-genesis-coupe-navi-sneak-peek/2038566/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/gen_navi035_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/hyundai-genesis-coupe-navi-sneak-peek/2038564/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/gen_navi036_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em><strong><small>Photos Copyright (C)2009 Chris Paukert / Weblogs, Inc.</small></strong></em><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/27/exclusive-sneak-peek-at-hyundai-genesis-coupes-next-gen-nav-sy/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>EXCLUSIVE: Sneak peek at Hyundai Genesis Coupe's next-gen nav system</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/27/exclusive-sneak-peek-at-hyundai-genesis-coupes-next-gen-nav-sy/">EXCLUSIVE: Sneak peek at Hyundai Genesis Coupe's next-gen nav system</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 27 May 2009 19:27:00 EST. While the stated intent of each of these schemes is to increase new car sales and remove older, dirtier and less fuel efficient vehicles from the road, some <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2009/04/18/environmental-transport-association-blasts-proposed-car-scrappin/">powerful organizations</a> have voiced concerns that untold numbers of classic machinery may be <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2009/04/02/sema-comes-out-against-cash-for-clunkers-again/">lost forever</a> for no good reason. Could it be that both sides are right? New car buyers in the UK are reportedly flocking to Hyundai dealers in droves with a bevy of older vehicles in tow. According to Tony Whitehorn, Hyundai UK's managing director:<br /><blockquote>"For many [the scrappage scheme] is an opportunity to buy their first ever new car, and is enormously exciting. Some people look a little embarrassed when they turn up at a showroom with an old car which is literally falling to pieces but we're happy to take anything as long as it meets the government's criteria. Other buyers have taken the decision to wave goodbye to cars which have been in the family for a generation, but their sadness soon disappears when they get into their new Hyundai."<br /></blockquote>So, just what kinds of cars are being traded in? The Korean automaker reports that both a Jaguar XJ-S and XJ6 have both been scrapped, as have 34 BMWs, 22 Audis and 32 vehicles from Mercedes-Benz. Six Mazda MX-5's, seven MGFs, a 1966 Austin 1100 and a 1968 Morris Minor were also sent to the great scrapheap in the sky along with at least one Citroen that lost a wheel on the way to the dealership.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.thegreencarwebsite.co.uk/blog/index.php/2009/05/21/scrappage-scheme-sees-end-to-jags-mercs-and-even-a-morris-minor/">The Green Car Website</a> | Photo: <a title="" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mattandkim/">Matt and Kim Rudge</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/26/hyundai-reports-4-000-scrap-car-trades-in-uk-reveals-some-surpr/">Hyundai reports 4,000 scrap car trades in UK, reveals some surprises</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 26 May 2009 18:29:00 EST. If you own a 2002 or 2003 Hyundai Sonata with chrome handles, you may not have that luxury, says the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. As a result, Hyundai is recalling 91,000 Sonatas because the chrome plating on the upper edge of the interior handle may wear, "causing cracking or separation between the chrome plating on the inboard and outboard surfaces of the handle." NHTSA says the sharp edge can cause "laceration injuries to anyone using the door handle." Ouch.<br /><br />Sonata owners can take their vehicle to any Hyundai dealership to have their handles repaired free of charge beginning in June. To find out if your car is eligible for the repair, call 1-800-633-5151. <br />This is the new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/07/100-hyundai-equus-sedans-coming-to-u-s-dealers/">Hyundai Equus</a> in the steel and on U.S. roads, courtesy of Autoblog reader Alex. Depending on dealer reaction to the car, Hyundai could-maybe-possibly-might bring it to America. If so, we would then find out if Hyundai could do what Volkswagen was incapable of doing with its Phaeton: Charge top-tier money for a top-tier product wearing a lower to (now) mid-market badge.<br /><br />As for the luxury sedan itself, being fans of the underdog, the Equus makes us go "Hooray, but hmmm..." We understand the need to lure unfamiliar buyers with familiar luxury themes, but we have to chide the Korean automaker for its reliance on Lexus' styling playbook. This is particularly true at the rear, where the taillight line jinks twice and runs to the wheel well, mimicking Lexus' L-Finesse language. Further, the rump wears a copy of Lexus' exhaust pipes and the car is badged the VS 460, which strikes us as a bit too close for comfort.<br /><br />With Hyundai at least enjoying <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/30/how-is-the-genesis-selling-hyundais-marketing-vp-spills-the-be/">early signs of success</a> with its upmarket Genesis sedan, perhaps there's room for an even more expensive offering, but early warnings point to a much higher sticker price than the automaker's reigning <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/11/hyundai-genesis-ford-f-150-win-north-american-car-and-truck-of/">North American Car of the Year</a>, and it's too soon to analyze the Genny's long-term prospects for success. What do you think... is Hyundai threatening to jump the gun, or is it headed in the right direction?<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/more-hyundai-equus/">More Hyundai Equus</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/more-hyundai-equus/2006435/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/01_more_hyundai_equus_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/more-hyundai-equus/2006436/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/02_more_hyundai_equus_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/more-hyundai-equus/2006437/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/03_more_hyundai_equus_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/more-hyundai-equus/2006438/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/04_more_hyundai_equus_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/more-hyundai-equus/2006439/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/05_more_hyundai_equus_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/alexkrafcik/sets/72157617792496605/">Flickr</a>]<br /><br />
