2009 Outback Owner Reviews (4)
I LOVE my Outback 2.5i Ltd

When I decided I wanted a practical and reliable vehicle that would be my everyday driver, I focused on the Outback early in my search process. I have owned BMWs, Mercedes, Volkswagens, Toyotas, and several American vehicles in my lifetime. The BMW experience provided terrific joy while driving, but were not reliable and expensive to repair. The Toyotas were reliable, but boring. No need to talk about my VWs as that was back in the 60's. The Chevy, Buick and Plymouths I owned were average in quality and performance. The Mercedes is a 23 year old roadster just restored, and it is for fun only....My Outback is GREAT......It is built in Indiana (American jobs!); the build quality is superb. I love the styling; it is as good as most SUVs in the snow and dirt, but has a very sleek and low profile. It is reliable, cheap to own, cheap to keep running. I no longer have to pay for premium gas, and I average 22-24 mpg in the suburban locations, and 29-33 mpg on the highway depending on my overall speed. I have had the car since Mar of 2010, and have made numerous cross country trips (IL to WY, IL to NC). The only service needed was routine oil changes, tire rotation, and the 30k mile service. I admit the horsepower could be more, but it is more than adequate for 95% of my needs. I got a trailer hitch at UHaul to pull a loaded 6x4 trailer from NC to IL. The ride quality is excellent. It is quiet, smooth and very comfortable on long trips. The Harmon Kardon sound system is better than the one I had in my last BMW. It is nice to have heated seat backs on cold days, and not just the seat cushion. All controls are easy to use. The instrument cluster is clean and easy to see. The hidden storage tray under the floor in back is a much appreciated feature. I recently bought a set of snow tires/alloy wheels from the Tire Rack. Even with the OEM all season tires, traction has been great, I can't wait for snow to begin now that I will have real snow tires on the car. This car is GREAT!!

I bought the car in february and am very pleased with the purchase. It returns better fuel economy than expected (I have been averaging 26.7). It is very comfortable for long trips, holds all the cargo that I need, the dog kennel fits easily in the back. It does better than my 4x4 pick-up to climb up snowy mountain roads with its stock all-season tires. The HK stereo is great and the navigation system is intuitive and easy to use. The addition of rear privacy glass for the '09 model year makes the car a better deal overall - don't have to worry about scratching the aftermarket tint. It is almost wrong for other vehicles like the Rav4, CRV, Highlander, etc to claim that they have AWD when compared to Subaru. With all the said there are a few things that I think are missing from the vehicle. For $30K I would expect the car to come with a bluetooth phone interface, memory seats, auto up/down windows (the driver's windown has auto down).

The outback has been one of the best cars I have ever owned. It goes through snow without a problem. I will definitely buy another subaru for my next vehicle.

WE HAVE HAD OUR 2008 SUBARU OUTBACK FOR 11 MONTHS AND IT HAS BEEN A FANTASTIC VEHICLE. WE HAVE HAD NO ISSUES WITH THE POWERTRAIN NOR ANY ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE AT ALL. MY WIFE LOVES THE CARGO SPACE WITH THE SECOND SEAT FOLDED FLAT. LOOKS LIKE THE NEXT VEHILE WE PURCHASE WILL BE ANOTHER SUBARU OUTBACK.
