2005 XC90 Owner Reviews (4)
Six years and still very happy

We bought our XC90 in 2005 and have been extremely happy. It is the perfect all around vehicle, whether taking the kids and their friends to a baseball game, taking the grandparents and children to a family occasion, or moving big items to the summer house. The ride is smooth, the handling is crisp, and the sound system awesome. I was so happy that I bought the S80 in 2007, which I am also still driving and enjoying. I also found that both of these values are a great value - you get a lot of car for your money.
Review of 2005 Volvo XC90
Grate car. Bed location for cruse swich and fiuses for lighting.
Great size for an average family of 4. We purchased the third row. 95% of the time not used but when heading out with kids friends it works very well. Adults can squeeze into it across town but certain not for a long haul. Easy to put up and take down. Gas milage is around 20. Enough spunk to get up to speed but at times the V8 would have been nice.
It came with factory Perilli tires. Dealership changed the out at 8K miles after going thru a ton BS. 3/4 tires wouldn't balance. Michelin makes a great tire for this vehicle.
Its nice not to have to change the oil but every 7.5K miles. Sound system could use a little help. Controls in easy locations but speakers are a little weak.
overall nice car
This is our 5th Volvo - 4 previous wagons (740,740,960,xc70) - overall have been satisfied. Mostly driven by my wife, my experience driving mostly on the highway. Not the most gas-efficient, but knew that going in. Ride has always been comfortable-firm and stable. Like the back hatch on the XC90, small fold down gate most helpful when left up and loading the back end. Split 3rd seat nice for my third child; doesn't get squished between her siblings in the 2nd row. Plenty of storage space. Use the roof rack on trips - the Volvo, and I suspect most european models, have a 100kg weight capacity (220#); most US vehicles are only 100#. The biggest drawback is the cost - surely not cheap to keep. Dealership maintenance costs are way too high. Nice they included routine maintenance for 7500, 15,000, 22,500, 30,000 miles, but other oil changes etc way too expensive (I drive an Infiniti and my oil changes are half the price). Anticipate that when the lease is done, we will go back to the XC70 - don't need the 3rd row anymore.
