2002 Nissan Altima 4cyl
This car had 140000 miles on it when the head gasket blew. Mechanic said it is common for these Nissian's (4 cyl) to blown the head gasket and over heat. The Mechanic said the engine would need a complete rebuild or a new engine ........... $3000+.

I have a 2002 Altima and I still absolutely love it. (I was a die-hard Honda Accord fan until now.) I'd definitely recommend getting the bigger engine (V6) although the gas mileage may suffer a little. The only maintenance this car has had in 5 years is routine ... nothing has gone wrong to date and hopefully the trend will continue! My only "complaint" with this car is the turning radius. Perhaps the newer models are better, but the 2002 model will not make a U-turn in less than "3-points". If you're not in a position to buy a new Altima, definitely don't rule out a used one - they're a great car.
