Review: BMW X6 XDrive 35i

You know things have gone awry when BMW now offers three different flavors of non-cars, all of them antithetical to the Bavarian brand's classical claim to fame. The X6 is the latest addition to the range, joining the X3 and X5, and BMW is calling it a Sports Activity Coupe, creating an acronym that's oddly prescient for a vehicle that's essentially a post-bris X5. Beyond the looks that are an acquired taste, we wanted to know if there's BMW goodness baked into the X6, so we swiped the keys to an X6 XDrive 35i for a week with the SAC to find out. ... Read More

Spy Shots: BMW X6 facelift comes into focus
    1321019940

BMW launched its mind-boggling X6 in 2008, but aside from the addition of a high-powered M variant and a battery-laden hybrid (the latter of which has reportedly been killed), not much has been done to the high-riding, not-so-practical crossover. Even now, with the X6's refresh coming into clearer view, it doesn't appear that BMW will be making drastic ...

Spy Shots: BMW X6 5.0iS puts the "sport" in "sports activity coupe"
    1217246280

BMW has its own grammar rules. For instance, M and X cannot appear in the same car name. So while a BMW sport-ute/crossover (or whatever they want to call it) can for all intents and purposes be an M vehicle – that is, top-of-the-line sport model with all the go-fast components and power to spare – it can never wear the vaunted M badge. That is, ...

Spy Shots: BMW X6 ditches the cladding
    1184958300

Following an onslaught of boring spy shots depicting the BMW X6 as a precision-engineered Conestoga wagon, Brenda Priddy and her minions have finally caught the forthcoming sport crossover minus the super-duty Halloween costume. And guess what: it looks good. That sloping rear won't do much for cargo space, but the target audience is unlikely to give a ...

Spy shots: BMW X6 mule caught with its hatch open
    1183820760

When BMW engineers took a much-needed break from the 128-degree weather in Death Valley, they were kind enough to unlatch the hatch of the new X6 for KPG's spies to shoot away. The pics reveal that the heavy plastic cladding on the rear end disguises more air than sheet metal, with the steep rake of the windscreen plummeting towards the taillights. Even more ...

No Sketches, Actual spy photos of BMW X6 appear
    1176390840

No bogus photochopped sketches this time: Real-life spy photos of a lightly-camouflaged BMW X6 prototype have surfaced. For the first time, there are interior shots, and the back seat image clearly shows the sloping rear roofline. The X6 is expected to have a similar range of gasoline-powered six and eight-cylinder powerplants and diesel-fueled six-cylinder ...

BMW is rumored to be in the process of developing a pseudo-crossover built on the X5's underpinnings, but until now it was only gossip and conjecture. KGP Photography maintains that this mule is such a vehicle, judging by the steeply raked windscreen, higher beltline and camo-clad rear end.Where a traditional liftback would normally reside on the X5, the X6 ...

Autobild's take on the BMW X6
    1151186760

The four-door coupe market is beginning to get crowded and the Mercedes-Benz CLS won't be alone for long. Both the Porsche Panamera and the Aston Martin Rapide will be bringing their coupe-like profiles to the party in the next few years. BMW's date to the dance will be the X6, a four-door coupe based on the X5 SUV that separates itself with four-wheel ...

Bevy of future BMW renderings, including Z8 successor
    1149504900

German car mag Autobild has just placed its bet on what BMW's future lineup will look like by the end of the decade. Leading off will be a new large hardtop convertible, a successor to the Z8 if you will. While Autobild's rendering is mostly speculation, it clearly identifies the car as a meaty two-seater with a traditional long hood, short rear deck ...
