<br />
If anybody is still wondering whether <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/category/aptera/">Aptera</a>, despite the <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/11/15/rumormill-aptera-co-founders-booted-staff-slashed/">recent</a> <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/11/16/more-on-the-trouble-at-aptera-cash-may-be-running-out/">commotion</a>, will deliver one of their flightless wonders by Christmas, they can officially cease speculating. They're not, and the release date has now been pushed back to some undefined time in 2010. Hopefully, the delay won't be a full year as it was <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/01/07/aptera-pushes-back-retail-deliveries-to-october-2009-looks-for/">the last time</a> they announced delivery postponement. According to the company, fundraising efforts didn't keep pace with vehicle development, so they're taking measures to slow the cash burn. One of those unfortunate actions involved laying off an unspecified number of employees, though one of them, co-founder Steve Fambro, has said he will resume his role next year. Addressing the situation he said: <br />
<blockquote>
<div><em>Right now my advanced work is a lower priority for Aptera. We've got to be wholly focused on funding and getting the first 2e on the road. Paul's leadership and (chief engineer) Tom Reichenbach's talent have led to changes in the vehicle that are spot-on. They've made the vehicle safer, it's better handling and more comfortable. Once we get through this stage, we'll begin mass producing the 2e - the most aerodynamic and efficient vehicle in the world</em>.</div>
</blockquote>Sounds reasonable to us, and it's no doubt reassuring for <strike>patiently</strike> waiting customers to receive official communication from the firm. However, one can't help but wonder why they didn't head this chaotic episode off at the pass by making this announcement in a more timely fashion. The emotional investment of nearly 4,000 reservation-holding fans might be just as important as seeking further financial investment. In any event, the official press release awaits <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/11/18/officially-official-aptera-production-pushed-back-to-2010/">after the break</a>.<br />

<br />
Jay Leno likes him some electric <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/tag/tango">Tango</a>. No, not the new dance craze all the kids are <strike>talking</strike> texting about, but rather the oddly-narrow but very quick two-seater from Commuter Cars. Now, regular Autobloggreen readers have seen the Tango before, <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2008/07/07/george-clooney-still-doing-the-tango/">posing beside George Clooney</a> or perhaps <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2008/12/04/video-tesla-versus-tango-on-the-drag-strip/">drag racing Tesla Roadsters</a>, and many have commented (less than favorably) on its, um, nonconformist appearance. Perfect fodder, one might think, for a crack by someone who knows a thing or two about comedy. Instead, our man Jay Leno plays things pretty straight as he chats with its creator Rick Woodbury before taking it for a spin.<br />
<br />
Watching the clip, you can tell that Leno really likes it, especially from behind the wheel. He reports it doesn't feel like a small car inside and really only looks weird from the outside. He likes that it's unique and finds the fact you can lane split with it to be hilarious. However, the real reason he states "It makes you smile..." has less to do with the Tango's width as it does with the fact that "it goes like stink," a point which he happily reiterates. <br />
<br />
Despite its turn-of-speed, one of the Tango's biggest shortcoming is its 40 mile range at highway speeds. The car's heavy lead acid batteries are great for keeping it upright around hard corners, but you can't expect to go too far with yesteryear's technology. During their pre-drive talk, Commuter Cars' Woodbury revealed that the company is finally about to put lithium battery pack in a test car, and he expects for it to go up to 200 miles. All of which strikes us as a much more reasonable number if he ever expects to <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/11/07/bringing-skinny-back-tango-electric-production-to-restart/">bring skinny back</a>. Hit the jump for video of a little Tango in Jay's Garage.<br />

<a href="http://green.autoblog.com/tag/Reva">Reva</a>, the little electric car company from India whose product has withstood <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2007/11/05/video-jeremy-clarkson-reviews-g-wiz/">ridicule</a> from the likes of automotive entertainer Jeremy Clarkson, seems to be working very hard of late to turn those jeers into cheers. Not only will it be <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/09/07/frankfurt-preview-reva-to-show-next-gen-evs-remote-wireless-ch/">showing off two new models</a> with <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/09/10/report-reva-remote-charge-to-be-unlocking-battery-reserve-remot/">fancy telematic systems</a> and a "wireless charging" setup in <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/tag/frankfurt+2009/">Frankfurt</a> next week, but news now comes it may be supplying GM India with the drivetrain components necessary to electrify the <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/tag/chevy+spark/">Chevy Spark</a>. According to <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/articleshow/5001598.cms"><em>The Economic Times</em></a>, if the Detroit headquarters gives the green light, the sub-continent subsidiary will enter into a joint venture with Reva Electric Car Company in what would be the first such deal for The General since those pesky bankruptcy problems.<br />
<br />
If the deal <em>does</em> go ahead, we hope <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/category/GM">GM</a> will use the 2010 version of the Spark rather than the current incredibly mediocre-looking <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/06/05/lpg-fueled-chevy-spark-launched-in-india/">re-badged Daewoo Matiz version</a>. <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/09/10/greenlings-how-important-is-the-appearance-of-a-green-car/">Looks count</a>, and it would be embarrassing if the global Goliath racked up lower sales numbers than the David with which it had partnered. However it works out for GM, the agreement would be a boon to Reva, adding revenue and perhaps even allowing it to say arrivederci to their <a href="http://people.hsc.edu/faculty-staff/tomv/RodneyDangerfield_Album_no_respect.jpg">Rodney Dangerfield</a> reputation. <em>Thanks to Aviv for the tip!</em><br />

It was just a few short weeks ago that Eberhard won something of <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/07/30/martin-eberhard-demonstrated-a-probability-that-he-will-prevail/">a victory in an opening skirmish</a> of what had threatened to be a long campaign when a judge slapped down Tesla's anti-SLAPP motion. <br /><br />While it's probable that a settlement framework of some sort was agreed upon, no details of any such arrangement between the two parties have been released. Eberhard's council, Yosef Peretz, has only been willing to say that more information may be disclosed sometime toward the end of September. Tesla Motors declined to give AutoblogGreen any comment on the lawsuit at this time.<br /> <br /> The <span>suspension of hostilities comes at a good time for Tesla, having recently been <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/06/23/tesla-gets-465-in-loans-from-the-doe-to-build-model-s-ev-power/">given a large ATVMP loan</a></span> that should help them get their promising Model S in production and become an automaker in earnest. <br /> Those who've savored the sweet supermoto styling of the <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/tag/Zero+S/">Zero S street bike</a> and wished there was something similar designed to handle that psycho shortcut you've long dreamed of taking, your machine has arrived. <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/tag/ZeroMotorcycles/">Zero Motorcycles</a> has introduce the all-electric Zero DS, with tougher tires and more aggressive suspension, the dual sport is ready to tear up both street and trail and - with that big round headlight up front - look good doing it. While it lacks a bit of the top end (55 mph) and range (50 miles) of its street sibling, it makes up for it with more grunt and greater riding possibilities. It charges its 4 kWh battery in the same sub-four hour time as the S.<br /> <br /> The price tag on this latest addition to the Zero range is $9,950, but they are quick to point out that the recently-passed 10% federal tax credit takes $1,000 off the price to start. On top of that, and <a href="http://www.zeromotorcycles.com/incentives/">nicely illustrated here</a>, individual states have their own incentive programs in place or on the way. What's next for the Scotts Valley California company? Well, they have <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2009/05/09/electric-sportbike-coming-soon-from-zero/">promised a super speed motorcycle</a> with a full fairing sometime this year but we'll worry about that <em>after</em> we get our grubby little hands on this monster. Hit the jump for the official press release along with a video showing how the new DS gets things done.<br /><br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/zero-motorcycles-zero-ds/low/">Zero Motorcycles Zero DS</a></strong></p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/zero-motorcycles-zero-ds/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/07/ds_front_angle_background_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/zero-motorcycles-zero-ds/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/07/ds_right_background_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/zero-motorcycles-zero-ds/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/07/ds_action_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/zero-motorcycles-zero-ds/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/07/ds_action_2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/zero-motorcycles-zero-ds/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/07/ds_action_6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: <a href="http://www.zeromotorcycles.com/zero-ds/">Zero Motorcycles</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/30/zero-motorcycles-launches-a-dual-sport-electric-w-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Zero Motorcycles launches a dual sport electric [w/VIDEO]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/30/zero-motorcycles-launches-a-dual-sport-electric-w-video/">Zero Motorcycles launches a dual sport electric [w/VIDEO]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 30 Jul 2009 14:27:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Shelby SuperCars Ultimate Aero - Click above for a high-res image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />Shelby SuperCars, creators of the Utimate Aero (above), <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2008/07/16/shelby-supercars-building-worlds-fastest-electric-car/">infamously announced last Summer</a> that it would begin building the world's fastest <span style="font-style: italic;">electric</span> car, the Ultimate Aero EV. The company said the EV supercar would be unleashed sometime this summer at an American racetrack in a show of fast laps and fast charging. While that's yet to happen, SSC's Green division has announced plans to put the heart of its electric powertrain inside a hybrid motor-home. <br /><br />A recent agreement with <a href="http://www.jonesandsonchassis.com/index.php">Jones &amp; Sons Chassis</a> will see the All-Electric Scalable Powertrain (AESP) installed into a serial hybrid recreational vehicle platform with a 150-mile all-electric range. The REERV (range-extended electric recreational vehicle) will supposedly be able to achieve a total range of 500 miles and be capable of refilling its battery overnight on the 220V, 50 amp service typically found at campgrounds.<br /><br />Although no time frame was given for the project, an earlier release from SSC Green states, ambitiously, that they hope to supply over a quarter of the drivetrains needed to reach Obama's 2015 <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2008/08/04/obama-1-million-plug-in-hybrid-vehicles-by-2015/">million plug-in car goal</a>. The 260,000 AESP's would be be built at its manufacturing plant if the $30 million Department of Energy's Electric Drive Vehicle Battery and Component Manufacturing Initiative grant to fund their expansion plan comes through. Check out both press releases after the break.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-ssc-ultimate-aero/low/">2009 SSC Ultimate Aero</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-ssc-ultimate-aero/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/2009sscaero_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-ssc-ultimate-aero/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/2009sscaero_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-ssc-ultimate-aero/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/2009sscaero_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-ssc-ultimate-aero/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/2009sscaero_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.shelbysupercars.com/index.php">Shelby SuperCars</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/24/shelby-supercars-working-on-hybrid-motorhome/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Shelby SuperCars working on hybrid motorhome</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/24/shelby-supercars-working-on-hybrid-motorhome/">Shelby SuperCars working on hybrid motorhome</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 24 Jul 2009 19:28:00 EST. <br />Fiat held a glitzy launch for the convertible version of its super hot supermini at the Whisky Mist in London the other night and swimsuit supermodel Elle Macpherson was the first in the UK to go topless, getting her very own <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/tag/Fiat+500C/">500C</a>. We're told the Australian-born model and actress received the keys to the latest iteration of the Italian-built model outside her <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notting_Hill">Notting Hill</a> home and was soon overheard telling a friend how cool and sexy she thought it was. Of course, Elle knows all about cool and sexy Fiat 500s, having previously owned the original hard top version.<br /><br />Other convertible-celebrating celebrities up in da club with Edoardo Agnelli, the nephew of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giovanni_Agnelli">Fiat's co-founder</a>, included <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2007/05/02/whos-plunked-down-100-000-for-a-tesla-roadster-these-guys/">Tesla Roadster buyer</a> and Black-Eyed Peas guy will.I.am and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amelle_Berrabah">Sugababes' Amelle.</a> Feel free to check out the gallery below of Elle's famous friends posing with her new ride. <div align="center"><em><small><strong>2011 Tesla Model S - Click above for a high-res image gallery</strong></small></em><br /></div>
<br />The crew from <em>On Cars</em> had a chance to spend some quality time with the <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/tag/Tesla+Model+S">Tesla Model S</a> and some of the key people bringing this sweet sedan to fruition. In the first of three videos (the other two haven't been released yet), not only are we treated to some gorgeous shots of the Model S, inside and out, but also have the chance to listen to designer Franz von Holzhausen talk at length about the object of our fastback desire. If you've been paying attention to every detail released about the all-electric so far, there might not be a lot of new material for you here, though interestingly, the Model S does get the year 2011 attached to it. That seems a little soon seeing as a factory hasn't been built <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2009/04/27/tesla-motors-buying-long-beach-boeing-building/">or acquired</a> yet, but we digress. <br /><br />Even if you do happen to know every bit of Model S minutiae, it is nice to hear the passion and excitement Franz has for the project as he talks with ardor about proportion and aerodynamics. You can see why Tesla chief, Elon Musk hired him on in the first place. But enough jabbering, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/09/video-franz-von-holzhausen-talks-about-the-2011-tesla-model-s-d/">hit the jump</a> and check it out for yourself.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/tesla-model-s-1/low/">Tesla Model S</a></strong></p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/tesla-model-s-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/03/model-s-official-5b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/tesla-model-s-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/03/model-s-official-4b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/tesla-model-s-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/03/model-s-official-6b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/tesla-model-s-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/03/model-s-official-2b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/tesla-model-s-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/03/model-s-official-1b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/tesla-model-s-live-reveal/low/">Tesla Model S: LIVE REVEAL</a></strong></p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/tesla-model-s-live-reveal/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/03/teslamodelslive_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/tesla-model-s-live-reveal/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/03/teslamodelslive_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/tesla-model-s-live-reveal/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/03/teslamodelslive_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/tesla-model-s-live-reveal/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/03/teslamodelslive_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/tesla-model-s-live-reveal/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/03/teslamodelslive_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.oncars.com/video/494/2011-Tesla-Model-S-Part-1-of-3-Design">On Cars</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/09/video-franz-von-holzhausen-talks-about-the-2011-tesla-model-s/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: Franz von Holzhausen talks about the 2011 Tesla Model S</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/09/video-franz-von-holzhausen-talks-about-the-2011-tesla-model-s/">VIDEO: Franz von Holzhausen talks about the 2011 Tesla Model S</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 09 Jun 2009 20:01:00 EST. <div align="center"><small><strong><em>Volvo plug-in hybrid - click above for a hi-res gallery<br /></em></strong></small></div>
<br /><a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/category/volvo/">Volvo</a> and <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/tag/Vattenfall">Vattenfall</a> have just made an announcement that should hurry the Swedish car maker along the hybrid highway. The two companies have partnered to develop a plug-in diesel hybrid that is expected to begin series production in 2012 with the first three demonstration vehicles to be completed this summer. Volvo, of course, will supply the cars, while the energy giant will bring charging units and the actual carbon-free electricity to the plug-in hybrid (<a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/tag/phev">PHEV</a>) equation. Other hybrids being baked by the <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/category/ford/">Ford</a>-owned brand include a <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2008/12/11/volvo-micro-hybrid-coming-in-2011-full-hybrid-in-2012/">"micro-hybrid" for 2011</a> as well as <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2008/03/14/volvo-officially-announces-swedish-plug-in-hybrid-development-pr/">the ReCharge concept</a>.<br /><br />Technologically, this PHEV is quite interesting. It will use 71% of its 11.3 kWh pack of lithium ion batteries to power the back wheels for about 30 miles (50 km). After that, the diesel engine takes over and will then drive the front wheels. The charging time for the battery is about five hours through a household type outlet and the car, which will use the body of the Volvo V70, will feature regenerative braking. Hit the jump for the official press release as well as a video outlining the program.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-and-vattenfall-plug-in-hybrid/low/">Volvo and Vattenfall Plug-in hybrid</a></strong></p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-and-vattenfall-plug-in-hybrid/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/06/19630_1_5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-and-vattenfall-plug-in-hybrid/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/06/19629_1_5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-and-vattenfall-plug-in-hybrid/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/06/19626_1_5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-and-vattenfall-plug-in-hybrid/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/06/19625_1_5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-and-vattenfall-plug-in-hybrid/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/06/19622_1_5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/01/volving-announces-diesel-plug-in-hybrid-for-2012-w-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Volvo announces diesel plug-in hybrid for 2012 [w/video]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/01/volving-announces-diesel-plug-in-hybrid-for-2012-w-video/">Volvo announces diesel plug-in hybrid for 2012 [w/video]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 01 Jun 2009 16:55:00 EST. <br />While they might lack the comedic punch of their seasoned British co-fr&egrave;res, the presenters at <em>Top Gear Australia</em> don't seem to have any electric car "<a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2008/12/22/whyd-they-push-that-tesla-into-the-garage-top-gear-responds/">issues</a>". Indeed, in a recent episode they even held their own battery-powered build-off. Presenters Warren Brown and Steve Pizzati each took a car of their choosing, stripped out all the combustive components and inserted a rough and (mostly) ready electric drivetrain, before meeting up on a racetrack to compete for bragging rights.<br /><br />Realizing that a decent electric vehicle shouldn't be too heavy, Pizzati decided to go with the featherweight <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suzuki_MightyBoy">Suzuki MightyBoy</a> while his competitor settled on that great Australian classic, the HZ Holden Kingswood. This hulking station wagon weighs in somewhere between the QEII and the state of New Hampshire. While we won't tell you which conversion won straight out, we will throw out the hint that the triumphant strains of "<a href="javascript:void(window.open('http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4Ic3RqPIJo','','resizable=no,location=no,menubar=no,scrollbars=no,status=no,toolbar=no,fullscreen=no,dependent=no'))">Football meat pies kangaroos electric cars</a>" could be heard coming from the passenger compartment of the conquering contestant. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/28/video-top-gear-australia-electric-car-build-off-aussie-rules-s/">Follow the jump</a> for the segment in two parts - as well as a bonus video of a very nice MightyBoy conversion.<br /><br /><br />[Source: YouTube]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/28/video-top-gear-australia-electric-car-build-off-aussie-rules-s/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: Top Gear Australia electric car build-off, Aussie rules style</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/28/video-top-gear-australia-electric-car-build-off-aussie-rules-s/">VIDEO: Top Gear Australia electric car build-off, Aussie rules style</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 28 May 2009 12:56:00 EST. <br />Despite <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2008/11/05/9-500-people-sign-up-to-lease-mini-e-will-cost-over-500-month/">thousands of people signing up</a> for a chance to lease the MINI E, only 500 are being produced at this stage, with 50 of those are <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2008/11/26/50-mini-e-vehicles-bound-for-berlin/">destined for Berlin</a>. Now, after months of winnowing down the list, the very first car has been delivered to one very happy customer. After meeting all the necessary requirements and having a charger installed in his garage, Peter Trepp took delivery of his shiny new ride last Friday. He had actually just test-driven one the day before where he learned of his impending good fortune. <br /><br />Numbered 111, the electric two-seater is Peter's to enjoy for a year and he already expects that the parting will be difficult. His first drive in his car, <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2008/11/24/abg-quick-drive-battery-powered-mini-e-w-video/">like ours</a>, occurred in bad L.A. traffic, but he was more than content and enjoyed the entire slow ride home. Trepp advises other future MINI E "pioneers" they'll get used to not having to touch the brake pedal. The regenerative braking is relatively strong and, he says, "not bad at all." Drivers won't have to worry about the people behind them being unaware when the car's momentum decreases as <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2008/11/26/mini-e-regenerative-brakes-will-turn-on-brake-lights-without-hit/">the brake lights will come on</a> when the foot is lifted from the accelerator. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above to watch video <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/15/video-fisker-karma-shows-its-mojo/">after the jump</a></small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />A year ago, less a day, we showed you the <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2008/05/16/video-karma-flies-sounds-like-jet/">first clip of the Fisker Karma in motion</a>. More footage was shot that afternoon, but it's inexplicably taken this long for it to find its way onto the internet. What we have here is 52 seconds of exuberant, pedal-down slalom carving and skidpad circling in the Fisker Karma. The driver makes the tires squawk so much that you forget all about the unfortunate pop tune dubbed into the clip.<br /><br />While not as polished as Fisker's <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2009/03/13/video-fisker-runs-first-karma-tv-ads-in-la/">recently-aired commercial</a>, it does give a more accurate hint of how the luxo-sport hybrid-electric might handle. That is to say with a bit of understeer, though its wide stance does help keep the car from revealing its considerable weight. So ladies and gentlemen, fasten your seatbelts and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/15/video-fisker-karma-shows-its-mojo/">hit the jump</a> for some wheel-squealing Karma action. Now it appears that the pining may have been premature, thanks to the emergence of another top management type with the brass, it seems, to freely speak his mind in public.<br /><br />In a new interview with Yahoo! Tech Ticker's Sarah Lacy, Tesla CEO Elon Musk was asked what he thought of an earlier <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2008/12/01/new-york-times-writer-opposes-doe-loans-for-tesla/"><em>New York Times</em> piece that voiced opposition</a> to a government loan for the electric car maker. With a huge smile indicating his delight in the opportunity to speak about the issue, Musk announced that "Randy Stross is a huge douchebag". After a brief pause he added, "...and an idiot." Take that, Mr. Fancy Pants reporter guy!<br /><br />In the course of the interview, Musk goes on to explain exactly how he felt the writer in question cherry-picked from the facts to make a case for Department of Energy loan denial, going on to vigorously defend the Tesla business model. In the conversation that followed the opening barrage, it was very interesting to note the certitude expressed by Elon that Tesla Motors would receive the low interest loan requested from the Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing (<a href="http://www.atvmloan.energy.gov/">ATVM</a>) program. Noting that his company is a "perfect fit" for ATVM funds, he states, "The odds of us getting that money ($350 million) are 99 percent..." alluding to assurances given in private meetings, Musk suggested the funds are coming and coming soon. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/13/video-elon-99-per-cent-sure-of-doe-loan-calls-nyt-writer-a-hu/">Hit the jump</a> for the entertaining and informative video.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/tesla-model-s-1/low/">Tesla Model S</a></strong></p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/tesla-model-s-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/03/model-s-official-5b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/tesla-model-s-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/03/model-s-official-4b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/tesla-model-s-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/03/model-s-official-6b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/tesla-model-s-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/03/model-s-official-2b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/tesla-model-s-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/03/model-s-official-1b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://finance.yahoo.com/tech-ticker/article/229933/Tesla-CEO-Blasts-Critic-Says-Gov%27t-Loan-Is-99-Sure-">Tech Ticker</a> via <a href="http://www.teslamotorsclub.com/news-articles-events/2575-elon-calls-nytimes-writer-huge-douchebag-idiot.html">Tesla Motors Club</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/13/video-elon-99-per-cent-sure-of-doe-loan-calls-nyt-writer-a-hu/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: Tesla CEO 99 percent sure of DOE loan, calls NYT writer "a huge douchebag"</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/13/video-elon-99-per-cent-sure-of-doe-loan-calls-nyt-writer-a-hu/">VIDEO: Tesla CEO 99 percent sure of DOE loan, calls NYT writer "a huge douchebag"</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 13 Apr 2009 14:59:00 EST. <br />After <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2008/12/22/zero-motorcycles-takin-it-to-the-streets-with-new-zero-s/">months</a> of <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2009/03/08/zero-s-electric-supermoto-to-be-unveiled-in-april/">teasing</a>, Zero Motorcycles has finally lifted the veil from its all-electric supermoto for the streets and revealed a ride that's well worth the wait. The Zero S shares some of the same styling cues as its off-road little brother, the <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/tag/zero+x/">Zero X</a>, but with it's highway-appropriate tires and "projector beam" headlight, it seems ready to deliver some serious asphalt action. With 31 horses and 62.5 lb-ft of torque instantly available, the clutchless one-speed "S" should take you up to its top 60 mph speed in no time. Its four kWh battery can keep you going for up to 60 miles, after which the integrated charger will allow you to do it all over again after plugging it in for less than four hours. <br /><br />Zero Motorcycles is now <a href="http://www.zeromotorcycles.com/zero-s-order.php">accepting orders</a> with deliveries beginning in early May. Buyers have the option of either putting down $1,000 now or writing a check for the full $9,950 purchase price. You can have it shipped straight to your door anywhere in the continental U.S. for $500, though international customers who wish to indulge in the Zero S experience may pay more. We can't wait to get in the saddle of this machine ourselves but for now we'll have to make do watching someone else enjoying electric "S" action in the video after the jump.<em> Thanks to everyone who sent this in!</em><br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/zero-motorcycles-zero-s/low/">Zero Motorcycles Zero S</a></strong></p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/zero-motorcycles-zero-s/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/04/zero-s-battery_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/zero-motorcycles-zero-s/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/04/zero-s-frame_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/zero-motorcycles-zero-s/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/04/zero-s-front-quarterj_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/zero-motorcycles-zero-s/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/04/zero-s-headlight_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/zero-motorcycles-zero-s/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/04/zero-s-rear-wheel-swingarm_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.zeromotorcycles.com/zero-s.php">Zero Motorcycles</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/07/zero-motorcycles-unveils-the-zero-s-w-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Zero Motorcycles unveils the Zero S [w/Video]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/07/zero-motorcycles-unveils-the-zero-s-w-video/">Zero Motorcycles unveils the Zero S [w/Video]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 07 Apr 2009 18:26:00 EST. <div align="center"><small><strong><em>Tesla Model S - Click above for high-res image gallery<br /></em></strong></small><strong></strong></div>
<br />It's been barely a week since the <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2009/03/26/tesla-model-s-50-000-ev-sedan-seats-seven-300-mile-range-0-6/">curtain was lifted</a> on the <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/tag/Tesla+Model+S">Tesla Model S</a>, and not only has its design received positive reviews, those sensuous lines have seduced 520 people to fork over some deposit cash for the new all-electric sedan. Tesla won't say, however, how many people chose the standard version that requires a refundable deposit of $5,000 or one of the 2,000 Signature Edition models that requires a $40,000 deposit. <br /><br />Initial sales of the Model S have exceeded Tesla's expectations and are quite a feat considering the economic times, plus the fact that these cars are still a few years away from being delivered. The real test of the S's ability to beguile may come tonight as the all-electric sedan makes its East Coast debut. With the company attempting to secure a $350 million loan from the Department of Energy's Advanced Technology Vehicle Manufacturing Program for a plant in which to build the Model S, the car will begin a string of appearances on the right side of the country with a showing at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. <br /><br />Tesla also has good <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/tag/Tesla+Roadster">Roadster</a> news. Production of the two-seater sports car continues to speed up and reached 104 units for the month of March. That gives the automaker a total of 170 Roadsters built for the first quarter of 2009 and about 320 altogether, in case you're keeping track. Hit the jump for the press release and bonus videos of the Tesla Model S in action, as well as having its auto-extending door handles explained by CEO Elon Musk.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/tesla-model-s-1/low/">Tesla Model S</a></strong></p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/tesla-model-s-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/03/model-s-official-5b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/tesla-model-s-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/03/model-s-official-4b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/tesla-model-s-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/03/model-s-official-6b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/tesla-model-s-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/03/model-s-official-2b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/tesla-model-s-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/03/model-s-official-1b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/tesla-model-s-live-reveal/low/">Tesla Model S: LIVE REVEAL</a></strong></p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/tesla-model-s-live-reveal/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/03/teslamodelslive_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/tesla-model-s-live-reveal/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/03/teslamodelslive_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/tesla-model-s-live-reveal/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/03/teslamodelslive_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/tesla-model-s-live-reveal/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/03/teslamodelslive_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/tesla-model-s-live-reveal/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/03/teslamodelslive_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.teslamotors.com/">Tesla Motors</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/02/tesla-model-s-gets-over-500-reservations-in-first-week/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Tesla Model S gets over 500 reservations in first week</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/02/tesla-model-s-gets-over-500-reservations-in-first-week/">Tesla Model S gets over 500 reservations in first week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 02 Apr 2009 13:28:00 EST. The money will come from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (<a href="http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/getdoc.cgi?dbname=111_cong_bills&amp;docid=f:h1enr.pdf">ARRA</a>) and is divided into 3 parts.<br /><br />
<ul>
    <li>$1.5 billion for U.S.-based manufacturers to produce batteries and components</li>
    <li>$500 million to help produce other electric vehicle (EV) components such as electric motors</li>
    <li>$400 million to demonstrate and evaluate plug-in hybrids and other electric infrastructure concepts which could include charging stations, electric rail and training for technicians to build and repair EVs</li>
</ul>
<br />The announcement was the center piece of <a href="http://www.energy.gov/news2009/7067.htm">a speech</a> that focused on energy and the economy. The President stressed the need for more renewable sources for electricity and less dependence on imported oil, noting that the SUV of today gets worse mileage than the Model T of 100 years ago. While perhaps not the most even of vehicular match-ups, the point was subtextually made that gains in efficiency can be a source of prosperity. Hit the jump for video of the speech (in two parts) as well as the press release from the Department of Energy (DOE) about the announcement.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/09/03/19/Electric/">White House blog</a> / <a href="http://www.energy.gov/news2009/7066.htm">DOE</a> / <a href="http://youtube.com">YouTube</a>, Photo by MANDEL NGAN/AFP/Getty ]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/20/president-obama-announces-2-4-billion-for-electric-vehicles/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>President Obama announces $2.4 billion for electric vehicles </em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/20/president-obama-announces-2-4-billion-for-electric-vehicles/">President Obama announces $2.4 billion for electric vehicles </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 20 Mar 2009 13:59:00 EST. After a couple of years of staying <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2008/08/20/ex-tesla-employee-electric-motorcycle-prototype-gets-driven/">almost perfectly</a> in stealth mode, the Mission One is being unveiled today at the <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/tag/ted">TED</a> (Technology, Entertainment, Design) conference. The <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yves_Behar">Yves B&eacute;har</a>-designed bike sets a new performance standard for <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/tag/electric+motorcycle">electric two-wheelers</a> with a top speed of 150 mph and an estimated range of 150 miles. Of course, the strength of an electric drivetrain is torque and the Mission One has 100 lb-ft of the stuff on offer from the first twist of the throttle up until 60 mph. When it makes its race debut at the <a href="http://www.ttxgp.com/">TTXGP</a> on June 12th, we suspect the other entries will be scrappin' it out for second place.<br /><br />To bring this amazing machine to market, Forrest North and his two co-founders, Edward West and Mason Cabot, have assembled <a href="http://www.ridemission.com/company/company_story_team.shtml">a real dream team</a> with incredible depth and experience and whose resum&eacute;s list companies like <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/tag/Tesla+Motors">Tesla Motors</a>, Ducati and Google. The first 50 bikes produced will be a special Limited Edition model delivered in 2010 bearing a $68,995 price tag, while a standard, more affordable Mission One model will be announced this summer. If the goal of this company was to create a paradigm-busting object of desire, then we say, "Mission accomplished". Mouth watering specs below and official press release after the break.<br /><br /><strong><a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/photos/mission-one/"><big>Gallery: Mission One EV sport bike</big></a></strong><br /><a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/photos/mission-one/1333468/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/mission-side-shot_thumbnail.jpg" /></a><a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/photos/mission-one/1333467/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/mission-rear-3-4_thumbnail.jpg" /></a><a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/photos/mission-one/1333466/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/mission-front_main_thumbnail.jpg" /></a><br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.ridemission.com/">Mission Motors</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/04/mission-one-ev-sport-bike-unveiled-150-mph-150-mile-range/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mission One EV sport bike unveiled - 150 MPH, 150-mile range</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/04/mission-one-ev-sport-bike-unveiled-150-mph-150-mile-range/">Mission One EV sport bike unveiled - 150 MPH, 150-mile range</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 04 Feb 2009 14:00:00 EST.
