A longtime automotive enthusiast, Brandon Turkus’ inauspicious beginnings in the industry (he was fired from his first car-related job at an exotic car dealer) have grown into a nearly 10-year career. During that time, he’s done everything from scheduling and delivering the same cars you see reviewed on Autoblog, to reviewing and photographing cars for Winding Road as Fleet Manager and Online Editor. Turkus is a proud member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, a keen amateur photographer, and a fan of odd British roadsters and French hatchbacks.

Video: Jaguar F Type V6 S vs Triumph Street Triple R in open-air track attack
    1411343100

Typically, these track battle videos pair up car against car or, in more disparate circumstances, car versus crossover, as we saw the other day. While the outcome of that battle was quite predictable, what'll happen when an equally fetching (and fast) four-wheeler is put up against one of the ...

Official: Scion sketches SEMA spread starring Slayer, skateboarder
    1411246800

I was in Nashville last weekend for a friend's bachelor party. It's all rather fuzzy, but I do recall that my friends and I found it hilarious to request Slayer every time one of the country groups on the Broadway strip asked for a specific song to be played. While there were a few good sports, ...

Report: Stop-start problems could lead to rise of ultracapacitors
    1411218000

The proliferation of start-stop systems in today's cars and trucks is pretty simple to explain. With these systems, manufacturers have an easy, mostly unobtrusive way of boosting a vehicle's fuel economy. As with just about anything though, there are drawbacks to modern start-stop tech. In ...

Video: Porsche Macan Turbo vs Cayman GTS in track battle
    1411145100

"Well this is stupid." On the surface, that was our reaction to this video, as well. Why would you compare the hottest Porsche Cayman with a crossover of any kind, even if it is the 400-horsepower Macan Turbo? We're guessing because it'd be bloody good fun, as evidenced Auto Express's latest ...

Report: New radar gun may inform police if you're texting
    1411136160

Typically, we don't really enjoy seeing radar-gun-wielding traffic cops. They have a tendency to ruin our day. But, a new sort of radar gun may have us quickly singing their praises. The Virginian-Pilot reports that there's a new tool that will be able to tell officers if a driver is texting ...

    1411072140

I'm the president of Autoblog's chapter of the Citroën C4 Cactus Appreciation Club. Full Disclosure: I'm also probably its only member. Why am I fan, you ask? Because the C4 and its ding-resistant Airbumps offer the versatility of a five-door Ford Focus, but it's 350 pounds lighter than ...

Of the many arrows in the quiver of the F-35 Lightning's critics, the overall cost of the plane and its accompanying development is the most frequently used. The farcically high procurement and development costs – $398.6 billion, as of April – are only overshadowed by the individual ...

Official: Meet Sparky, Nissan's Leaf-based, Frontier-bedded EV parts hauler [w/video]
    1411058640

For many enthusiasts, the concept of the ute – a car with a pickup bed – is somehow irresistibly appealing. On paper, it promises the marriage of a truck's utility and a car's superior driving dynamics, and for that reason alone, we'd love to see more of them. Yet while other parts of ...

This week marked the launch of the Forza Horizon 2 demo on the Xbox One (go play it, it's darn entertaining as demos go). Lancia's death is sad for many, many reasons, chief among which is the end of its wonderful, wild rally heritage. While the brand might best be known for the Stratos and the Delta HF Integrale, there was another big name model, called the 037, that did its best to live up to the family name. The ...

Anyone that's seen one of our military photo roundups, which are posted every Friday afternoon, knows that we're pretty fond of the Osprey, the US military's tilt-rotor cargo plane.
