Lincoln Vehicles

Lincoln is the luxury pairing of Ford Motor Company. Founded in 1917 by Henry Leland, whose earlier work included the formation of Cadillac, Lincoln fully hit its stride immediately before World War II under the design direction of Henry Ford's son Edsel. That foundation was firmly laid, for Lincoln continued to provide outstanding design themes in the '50s (Continental Mk II), '60s (Continental 4-door sedan and convertible) and '70s (Continental Mark IV). Like Cadillac, with the onslaught of German and - later - Japanese competition in the luxury sector Lincoln was caught out, with no real market momentum over the last thirty years except that provided by its Navigator SUV.

Recently, with a renewed commitment by Ford to its brand and the not-incidental help of actor Matthew McConaughey, Lincoln seems to have found a footing. Some, though, would suggest there remains too much 'Ford' in the Lincoln showroom, with Ford's Escape, Edge and Fusion forming the basis for MKC, MKX and MKZ, respectively. A new Continental is set to debut, and while it's a move in the right direction it won't evoke recent Continental concepts. Recently showroom traffic is significantly up, and a sales uptick should follow. In the interim, everyone seems to like McConaughey.
