Kip Ewing, Assistant Chief Engineer at Ford Performance, has resigned according to a Ford spokesperson. Ford told Autoblog, "Kip has not been involved in the GT program for over a year." The May 2015 issue of Car and Driver refers to Ewing as the chief engineer of the blue oval supercar, although Ford does not assign that title to specific vehicle projects. Jamal Hameedi, whose official title is Global Performance Vehicle chief engineer, currently oversees the Ford GT development program.

Prior to joining Ford, Ewing worked for Aston Martin, Callaway Cars, Bentley, and ASC. At Ford, he worked on the S197-generation Ford Mustang, the 2005 Ford GT, and the 2013-2014 Shelby GT500. He is also responsible for the GTX1 roadster based on the 2005 GT.

The 2017 Ford GT is both a road-going supercar that also races in the IMSA and FIA WEC series. The road car received over 7,000 applications for a two-year run totaling 500 cars at roughly $450,000 each.
