Land Rover keeps the 2017 Discovery Sport fresh for the new model year with small updates that sharpen the looks and improve the SUV's available tech. The upgraded amenities arrive on the Disco Sport in August, and prices start at $38,690 after $995 destination. The changes won't do anything to address complaints about the transmission from our review last year, but they'll only improve the Landie's already superb interior.

For those who want to add extra style to their Land Rover, the new Dynamic Design Package for the HSE and HSE LUX trims is the way to go. It includes subtle tweaks to the front and rear bumpers, integrated tailpipes at the back, gloss black 20-inch wheels, and black exterior trim. The inside gets contrasting stitching on the seats, upgraded interior trim, and metal pedal covers.

Even without the Dynamic Design pack, the 2017 Discovery Sport gives buyers a high-tech driving experience. The SUVs are now available with Land Rover's InControl Touch Pro infotainment system that uses a 10.2-inch widescreen display (the current 8-inch unit is still standard). The model also now packs optional safety aids like a Driver Condition Monitor to check if you're getting drowsy. The optional new Intelligent Speed Limiter uses the existing Traffic Sign Recognition to monitor the limit and even automatically slow the vehicle if the driver allows it. Lane Keep Assist is also now among the options.

(MAHWAH, N.J.) - April 26, 2016 - Today, Land Rover announced a number of design additions to the 2017 Discovery Sport including a new Dynamic Design Pack and the availability of the advanced Land Rover InControl® Touch Pro™ infotainment system with 10.2-inch touch-screen.

Enhanced Design

Available on HSE and HSE LUX trim levels, the Dynamic Design Pack features unique front and rear bumpers with integrated rear tailpipes, black accented exterior detailing and gloss black 20-inch wheels. Interior design enhancements include contrast stitched leather seats and gearshift knob, unique carpet mats, metal finish pedals and center dash side panel finishers.

Gerry McGovern, Chief Design Officer, said: "Our customers want their vehicles to stand out and expect a wide range of personalization options. The latest additions to the Discovery Sport deliver this in a premium way."

The new 2017 Discovery Sport will also be available in four new exterior body colors: Silicon Silver, Farallon Black, Carpathian Grey and Aruba metallic.

The premium compact SUV is manufactured at the award-winning Jaguar Land Rover plant in Halewood, UK and will be on sale from August 2016 with prices starting from $37,695 1.

Convenience Technology

The advanced Land Rover InControl Touch Pro infotainment system is at the heart of the technological additions for the 2017 model year. The system provides a larger 10.2-inch touchscreen and intuitive menus, replicating the look and feel of smartphone apps and allowing users to swipe and pinch, just as they would on a tablet 2.

The screen does not require any 'hard' buttons and provides a super-wide 21:9 high resolution screen format. The added capability of the InControl Touch Pro™ system is supported through the use of a high-performance Intel Quad-Core computing and graphics processor paired with a fast Solid State Drive (SSD).

Advanced Driver Assistance Features

Complementing the enhanced design and technology features fitted to the 2017 Discovery Sport are a trio of new driver assistance systems.

Using an algorithm which continuously monitors driver inputs looking for signs of fatigue, Driver Condition Monitor is designed to alert the driver via visual and audible warnings if it detects signs of driver drowsiness 3.

Intelligent Speed Limiter has also been added and is designed to help drivers to keep to the speed limit. The system takes advantage of the Traffic Sign Recognition feature to detect changes to the prevailing speed limit. When a change occurs, the driver is prompted to accept the new maximum speed. Once accepted, the vehicle will automatically slow to the required speed 3.

Another new feature, Lane Keep Assist, uses the forward-facing camera on the vehicle to detect lane markings. If the driver begins to veer out of their lane without indicating, the vehicle is designed to gently counter-steer to ensure it does not leave its lane unintentionally3.
