Due to their tendency to injure car-struck pedestrians, hood ornaments are frowned upon by most safety-centric government agencies these days. During the glory days of the hood ornament, however, some incredibly beautiful chromium sculptures were affixed to vehicular bonnets. Plymouths had sailing ships, Kaisers had buffalos, Hispano-Suizas had flying storks, and so on.

There are thousands to choose from. My personal favorites may be the Chief Pontiac ornaments installed in the immediate postwar era, but that's a tough decision. What's your favorite hood ornament?
