Gilbert Shelton, the brilliant Texas cartoonist best-known for creating The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers, proclaimed back in 1976 that "The nation's streets are becoming clogged with defective cars and incompetent drivers." His solution: the creation of a National Racing Competition, which would require every driver to finish a minimum number of laps at an annual license-examination road race.

Vehicles would be classed according to performance (with VW buses in the slowest class) and those placing highest in their respective classes would become national heroes. Fail the test? No driver's license for you! Putting aside the impossibility of implementing such a plan, do you think it's a good idea or not?
