Plug-in vehicle charging-station maker ChargePoint has started selling its home-charging system for electric vehicles on online-retailing giant Amazon. The Northern California-based company is debuting ChargePoint Home, and is pricing the system between $499 and $749. The company was formerly known as Coulomb Technologies.

ChargePoint is selling a 32-amp station that can provide as many as 25 miles worth of driving range per hour, depending on the vehicle, of course. On the other end of the spectrum, there's a 16-amp version for those who can afford a more leisurely charge. Cord lengths for the stations range from 12 feet to 25 feet.

The stations connect to a mobile app that lets owners start the charging process and schedule charges remotely. Other goodies include on-the-fly software updates and a feature that gets information from the utility provider on when is the cheapest time to charge.

Earlier this year, the company reached out to apartment and condo dwellers with a plug-in vehicle charging system geared towards multi-unit residential dwellings. ChargePoint set up a system where the building owner would pay for the wiring, ChargePoint would cover the installation costs, and the building owner could essentially run a charging subscription service for the building's tenants.

Also earlier this year, ChargePoint cut a deal with German automakers BMW and Volkswagen in which the three companies would work together to install almost 100 DC fast-charging stations up and down the East and West Coasts.
