Airplane makes emergency landing on city street
At least one motorist sharing the road filmed the scene a dashboard camera, and was shocked after he saw the Piper Cherokee aircraft land on a busy city road near John Wayne Airport last Wednesday evening. "Are you kidding me?" the driver can be heard saying. It wasn't a joke though; a plane had actually used the road as a runway. The plane is owned by Orange Coast College and a student and instructor were inside, the Orange County Register reported.
Two lanes of traffic were closed on MacArthur Boulevard until the plane could be towed to a hanger. The cause of the emergency landing has not been identified. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident, and there were no injuries.
This isn't the first time dash cams have captured an airplane taking to the streets. In Russia, where dashboard cameras have been popular for years, a light aircraft made a landing and pit stop to refuel on a long stretch of road.
