The checkered flag wasn't the only thing fluttering through the air this past weekend at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, where a massive crash ended the GT4 European Series race supporting the ADAC GT Masters main event.

Coming out of the last corner on the last lap, the yellow Sin R1 piloted by Rosen Daskalov and the Aston Martin Vantage driven by Jörg Viebahn rubbed wheels, skidded off the track, and with very little runoff area, smashed at high speed into the tire wall. The cars were battling for fourth place.

The cars positively disintegrated on impact – or at least that's the way it looked – but both drivers reportedly walked away unscathed. Which only goes to show how much safety is built into these production-based race cars.
