Tesla cancels Premium Center Console option for some trims

Will Owners Have To Go The Aftermarket Route For Cupholders?

In what appears to be a rare occurrence of Tesla Motors being caught flat-footed, the electric vehicle maker apparently won't be able to make good on the delivery of many of its Premium Center Consoles to customers who've long been waiting for them. To some awaiting those cup holders with bated breath, it's sheer disappointment. To others who can only dream about driving a Model S, let alone owning one, it's "cry me a river."

Teslarati, which has continually provided details about real-world experiences with the Model S super sedan, reports about reserving a Premium Center Console in March 2014. After that came recurring messages from the company saying delivery would be put off, first until June 2014, then until early 2015. Ultimately, Tesla cited quality issues from its supplier and cancelled the Premium Center Console item for cars with carbon fiber interior trim or obeche wood, though has kept the option open for cars with Piano Black interiors.

Aside from that particular item, Tesla has been gradually adding interior options to the Model S. In February, the company started offering plusher rear seats as well as two-zone heating. At that time, a heated steering wheel option was also added.
