Was the Tesla hack just some kid messing around?
Prank Reportedly Came From Finnish Teenage Hacker
One Finnish teenage hacker was apparently able to infiltrate the Twitter accounts of both Tesla and company chief Elon Musk, after which he put out Tweets announcing a giveaway of a Model S. The Tweets, which were deleted pretty quickly, included the mobile phone numbers to a couple members of the Strater Family, which lives near Chicago. And, no, hilarity didn't exactly ensue, but a lot of phone calls and disappointed callers did.
For its part, Tesla says it's cooperating with the proper authorities, and the alleged hacker reportedly has a history of such things. Any sort of retribution is pretty limited because of the fact that the act originated overseas.
