Rally champ Juha Kankkunen sets tractor speed record

One of the first questions posed to any wheeled vehicles is, predictably, "How fast will it go?" Answers vary, with motorcycles and cars being the speediest. That doesn't mean there aren't warped sorts who think about how fast less, um, traditional vehicles are, though.

For example, have you ever wondered how fast a tractor can go? Probably not, but even if you've never posed such a ridiculous question, we're here to deliver an answer for you. See, a team of Finns, sponsored by Nokian Tires, has taken to a frozen track to test out a big, green monster called the Valtra T234. Using nothing more than software tweaks to boost performance, Nokian and Valtra have employed four-time World Rally champ Juha Kankkunen to push the tractor to go as quick as possible.

The result? Well, you'll need to watch the video. Suffice it to say, the Valtra scoots along at a clip that no farmer or snow plower could ever conceivably need, not to mention one worthy of a Guinness World Record. It's entertaining all the same. Check out the video.
