We love the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X, but by this point, we've accepted the fact that the its days are numbered, despite the noticeable back and forth that accompanied rumors of the vehicle's future for so many months and years. And while the Evo's coming death in 2015 is pretty sad, a report from Automotive News claims that the road-going rally machine will at least be leaving with a fairly substantial bang.

According to AN, Mitsubishi will send off the Evo with a Special Action Model. Limited to between 2,000 to 2,500 units and destined exclusively for the United States, the Evo X SAM should boast, most notably, a bump in power for its 291-pony, 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder. There should be a few other performance tweaks to accompany the increased output, although it's unclear what those might be. AN claims the limited-edition model will drop during the last six months of Evo production, some time next year.

AN's report was confirmed to us by Mitsubishi spokesman Alex Fedorak, who said that, yes, there will be "a US special edition in 2015." We've asked for additional information, but all we've heard back, so far, is that mum's the word. Here's hoping we won't be waiting too long to get official details.

Until then, what do you want to see for what could be the Lancer Evolution X's last hurrah? Give us your wish list in Comments.

        Look at the Top Gear test of the FQ400, they said it was ca crappy car, the 360 was much better. The 400 had so much lag it was insane.

        Forgot about that. That would be the greatest gift to the Americas!  We have always been left out =(  Even the FQ360 would be good, but FQ400 is sending a statement.

       - Lighter all around! At least under 3300lbs, lighter Recaro Racing bucket seats. Lighter suspension and better, lighter wheels, 2 peice rotors, ceramic wheel bearings, lighter 2 piece driveshaft. At least 420bhp 400btq!

       - It doesn't need any creature comforts, pretty my a track prepped monster! Get rid of all the shit you installed into the X. Take the platform of the X and make it a IX. Lol Solid bushings, ect... < Not that the IX had that but you know what I'm saying...

      400 HP and 350 lbs lighter. That's all I ask. It's depressing to see the EVO going out at all. /sigh I think it's time a new car to cheer for.

        It's insanely hard to drop 350 lbs for just a special edition, you guys are all basically asking for an EVO XI that's not gonna happen.

      Hopefully the SAM units will be numbered like the old Galant VR-4's. A special color would be nice. There's gotta be some unique Ralliart or Enkei wheels laying around for it. And of course the already mentioned bump in power. I am sure they can tweak the suspension just a bit and maybe add some sort of unique areo or grille or at least badging to set it apart.

      I was going to leave a post lamenting Mitsu's current state of affairs in the U.S. and discussing what led to this (dissolution of Chrysler partnership, etc), but I just don't care enough anymore. And that right there pretty much says it all.

        Car manufacture is a very small portion of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. They build military hardware for Japan, cargo ships, electronics, OEM for other car manufactures, etc. They realize they can make more money somewhere else and are kind of letting the car brand portion die.

        @Louis MacKenzie

        Consumers like you are who ruined the Evo in the first place. More money is spent on "creature comforts and nicer interiors". That is why the Evo became a fat turd in stock form!

        Give me light weight everything, great bolstered drivers seat, and amazing awesome performance/power/ and handling under 35K. This is what the Evo should be about. Fun factory...

        @Louis MacKenzie

        The car isn't about a plush interior. You're paying for it's performance. Upgrading the interior more than it already is would add unnecessary weight as well as cost.

      Sucks I just got rear ended the other day and my Evo is in the shop now. So much for nice resale now I'm going to mod the hell out of it like I did my Evo IX.

      Was keeping the X clean with low mileage but now that I have a wreck on the carfax there's no more point. Time for mods :)

        Sorry to hear that - hope you didn't suffer any injuries.  Evo Xs aren't super plentiful (especially with low miles and a good service history), so properly repaired crash damage may not turn off a serious buyer.

          It will turn off anyone who wanted a clean nice low-mileage car like mine. I was still under 30K miles on a 2012.

          I bought my IX with 30,000 miles for $22,500 and later sold it a year later for $24,000 with 59,900 miles (right before 60K service requiring all sorts of stuff).

          I was kinda hoping to do that with the X after they get canceled and the value jumps like it did with my IX.

        Man that's rough. I just traded in my Evo X for a 2015 STI. May I should've waited for the limited X. These people say that you could lose 30 percent on your Evo after you were rear ended. I would just mod the hell out of it. Probably will have way more power than the limited X.

        Same thing happened to me in my X except the front end.  They decided to fix it and it sucks.  I was taking great car of it and everything then BAM at 8200 mi someone hit me smh.

        @AcidTonic

        Yeah no injuries, she was not paying attention and clipped my left rear then spun me around counter-clockwise and re-hit my two drivers side doors. The movement prevented the frame from bending since the forces had time to disperse. She was doing about 35-40mph but the wreck lasted long enough for me to get a full sentence or two of cuss words out before the vehicle came to a stop. Not even a headache afterwards....

        I was more surprised about how this happened in stop-go interstate traffic yet not a single car offered to help or be witness. Everyone just drove around us like a big obstacle and left. Thankfully the woman admitted fault to the officer and apologized for hitting me. The damage was obvious that I wasn't possibly at fault so I wasn't terribly worried.

        I was too scared to hurt resale value to do any serious mods so now it's time to have some fun and make this experience just another excuse for fun. Time for an EF3 Turbo, 1500cc injectors, big fuel pump, and full exhaust.

      They need to bring back the Recaros because they took it out of the 2015 model year.  Some soft-touch interior and the center counsel they have in JDM version would be nice.  Like Tourian said, limited edition numbers or even a unique steering wheel would be awesome.  Bump in power should be up to 330hp (easily obtainable, btw)  I would gladly trade-in my Evo X for it.

      This is depressing.  I don't know why Mitsu doesn't breath some life into the company and redesign this car to compete with the new WRX.  Mitsu was once a relevant brand in the US, I used to see the late 90's galants EVERYWHERE.  Now you might see an evo or a beat to hell newer galant.

        @EvilTollMan

        It probably has something to do with the horrible sales.  The Evo is/was a fun car, but the price point was a little rediculous, especially if you were talking about the MR.  Subaru knows that the STi is priced too high to sell in volume, so they push the WRX to have a lower price point, and drive sales volume.  If Mitsu had done something similar with the Raliart they may have had enough volume to support keeping the Evo around at somethign resembling a profit.

          Ralliart has no manual transmission and the WRX does.

          Case closed.

          Agree. Most people don't know there is a Ralliart turbo/AWD model.  Also, if Mitsu would have pushed the RalliArt model into the wagon/hatchback Lancer, they could have swayed more customers into it.  I just bought a 2015 WRX because I didn't want an old model (and one that is exiting the market) from Mitsu.  Similar reason I didn't buy the 2015 STI - a ten year old engine that gets terrible mileage. Looking forward to see what Subaru does when it refreshes the STI's engine offering.

          @Chris O.

          @Acid & Go2:

          My point was that Mitsu had a golden opportunity to position the Ralliart similarly to the WRX.  Lower power, less sophisticated AWD, and lower cost... but still able to target enthusiasts.  There's not any reason why they couldn't have offered a 5MT or 6MT, just like there no reason why they couldn't have publicized that the car even existed.

          I think that not really pushing the Sportback model more strongly after Subaru got rid of the WRX 5-door was also a collosal mistake.

          I think it all came down to marketing. I have a 11' Ralliart and it's a blast to drive. I enjoyed the hell out of it in New England winter then shipped it to California (where i live now) and enjoy the hell out of it on the PCH.

        I really agree here. Having owned three 2 door 80's monteros (AWESOME 'Utes), four eagle talons, I wonder where Mitsu went wrong.  I think it was 1) lack of advertising 2) poor decisions in the styling departing (The Galant is fugly) 3) not listening to what potential customers really wanted.  Hoping one day they will return with relevant vehicles.
