PRC disputes US criticism of incident between fighter and recon plane
According to Rear Adm. John Kirby, the Pentagon's press secretary, a Chinese J-11B showed its heavily armed belly in one maneuver, passing within 30 feet of the Navy P-8, which was flying about 135 miles east of Hainan Island in the South China Sea. According to Military Times, Kirby called the Chinese pilot's handling of the situation "aggressive and unprofessional."
The incident and the ensuing outrage has prompted China to call on the US to stop its recon flights near Chinese territory. According to MT, this is the fourth time this year that there's been a run in between a PRC fighter and the US military.
