What's a sure-fire way to make a vehicle better? Well, you can add power or make it more exclusive. BMW has done both, just in time to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the legendary M5 sedan.

Only 300 examples of the car you see above, the M5 30th Anniversary Edition, will be sold to the public, and those lucky owners will enjoy the most exclusive, most powerful M5 ever made. Power continues to flow from the standard M5's twin-turbocharged, 4.4-liter V8, which has had its wick turned up to 600 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. The sprint to 60 now happens in just 3.7 seconds, which is still a scarcely fathomable speed among sports cars, let alone comfortable, finely upholstered sedans.

Speaking of that upholstery, Alcantara and leather seats and an Alcantara steering wheel identify the exclusive M5, while special sill plates further call out the car's unique spec. Outside, the standard Competition Package adds 20-inch wheels and black chrome badges, while 30th Anniversary Editions wear BMW's Frozen Dark Silver matte paint.

As we said, only 300 of these higher-performance M5s will be offered to the public. Of those, only 30 will be coming to the US, with every example almost certainly spoken for (orders opened on May 21).

Scroll down for the full press release and stock images, and then check out the live gallery of the latest M5 at the top of the page.

When purchasing my friend's modified E60 M5 I was able to drive his new F10 M5. It's nice and luxurious.  But I can see why he wants the E60 back. It's too far, to synthetic, too disconnected. The feeling you get from the steering wheel is like the feeling you get from and video game or computer steering wheel controller. Yeah, you're turning and the car reacts, but it feels so fake, so digital. The only thing I wish my E60 had was the DCT. Other than that I'll keep the roar and scream of the V10.

the E60's are the last REAL 5 series bmw's. everything from the V10 in the M5 to the naturally aspirated 6 cylinders, to the REAL power steering is all gone in the new gen F10's.

And because of that I'm looking to get a CTS-V or a Charger Hellcat.

@Barry - you're right, the Hellcat will be far more exclusive than the M5.

Only reason to take the Hellcat... it could be something worth a mint to a collector in 20 years.  The M5 while nice will never be worth more.  It's not really limited like the 1 M or the Z8.

a comparo i believe will be done between the two and until then people keep your judgment on performance till we see results. the Beemer looks better. however if your real car people you wouldn't underestimate american muscle or an all american supercharged V8. 0-60 are identical from what i have read.

Is the Hellcat a "bro" car?   I'm making an assumption that the majority want a luxurious car with power rather than a car with a little more power and not much else.

600 hp...  huh.  Nothing compared to a DODGE now.  I hope the V at least matches 700 hp or the games over for them too for a number of years.

Lol this is faster 0-60 despite having 107 less hp than that fugly hellpussy. Porsche&BMW FTW.

Empty vessels make the most noise and Dodge is all show and no go. I still don't get this whole hellcat fascination. I'm pretty sure the shelby is already faster than this dodge junk anyway. If a 420hp 5.0 can beat a 470hp 392, I'm pretty sure a shelby would smoke this hellpussy too.

Ford fans however are much more sensible than the hellcat apologists. when a 662hp shelby came out noone started comparing it with mclarens, AMG's, M's and porsche turbos.

Oh and did I mention that a 550hp Panamera turbo can tear the kitten a new asshole? You dont need 700hp in a car that cant even use 470 properly. Such a pity

        Shelby 0-60 = 4.1s

        Hellcat 0-60 = 3.7s.

        What are you talking about?

What planet do you live on that the BMW second 3.7 0-60 time is faster than the Hellcat 3.7 second 0-60 time?

Did you mention that if it isn't from Germany, you don't like it?

        @Jai

This is a midsize car, it would be comparable in size to a Avenger/200. I'm not sure why anyone is even comparing a hellcat to the 5 series. The LX Charger is a full size, it would compare directly with the 7 series. The only vehicle that BMW has that would even compare would be the Alpina B7. That car has a "measly" 540hp and a top speed of 194mph. Both are backed by the same ZF 8 speed automatic. That's a car that starts at $134k, so the Hellcat has nothing to apologize for, it has show and go, so that renders your comment invalid. Please go back to painting the calipers red on your car in your parents driveway and never use 'lol' again if you want people to take you seriously.

It's all about that number: 707. That's it. Most owners will never track it, or even top 100 in it either. Very few people can actually use that kind of power in a chassis that is not designed for it. 707 is for bragging only.

Plenty of people will drive it passed 100. I can gaurantee that. Enough people push Civic's passed 100. Plenty of Hellcats will be tracked, it's $60k not $600k.

If I'm gonna pay more than a $100k for a car, it better have a perfect, shiny paint job. The matte looks like you couldn't afford the paint.
