It was a big deal back in 2008 when the original Cadillac CTS-V clocked a lap time of 7:59 at the Nürburgring, making it the fastest sedan ever to lap the Nordschleife to that date. Not many four-doors have bested that time since – the list consisting pretty much only of the Porsche Panamera Turbo – but now hot hatches are lapping faster than that, so you can bet that the new one will manage an even better time.

Now we've spotted the upcoming new CTS-based performance sedan several times before undergoing testing in locations around the world, but this is the first time we've seen it at the Nürburgring, apparently using the Goodyear Dunlop test facility as its base of operations (and still wearing Michigan manufacturer plates, incidentally). Considering how well the outgoing CTS-V performed and how much further you can bet Cadillac will push the envelop this time around, a new sedan lap record is almost a certainty – and we can only hope for an all-out war between Europe's performance sedan power houses to ensue.

Also, 2012 M5, 7:55 2015 M3, 7:52 Call me crazy but I can see this new CTS-V approaching the ZL1's time (7:41) if it does indeed have 600 SAE hp and weighs no more than 4100lb like the ZL1.

Hmm... So will it use the LT4 from the upcoming Z06 or will they go crazy and shove a TT V8 in it. Either way it will be a demon. lol

I really see the German-cheerleaders are just shallow and ignorant to the fact that there is other competition in the market like it always were.. back in 1960s (You can check it yourself) BMW had the "Legendary" BMW 2000 (a.k.a the ugliest, most "nothing-close-to-luxury" designs inside and out) while Cadillac was the best selling luxury brand for 44 years. Saying that Cadillac is bringing "BMW" to the testing fields? They also bring Porsche, Audi, Mercedes-Benz and all of the competition to MAKE SURE they are in the SAME market... These comparison tests are a MUST by every company. Yet, it allows the company to build EVEN BETTER technologies than the competition itself. Cadillac was the first company to invent the "Modern Interior and Driving Cabin" back in 1930s (If you don't know what that means, it means the Steering wheel current design, the shifting knob and the paddles).. Again it was the first to invent the push-button "Ignition" that replaced inserting a rotary stick in the crank outside the vehicle and rotating it.. which sometimes broke arms.. Soon later, Cadillac introduced the KEY-Ignition and Vehicle locks with the same key used for ignition. Cadillac was the first to apply Turbo Charging to a gasoline engine somewhere in 1970s or 1980s. Also it was Cadillac who invented the Automatic gearbox.. it started as 3-speed and later became a 4-Speed Automatic. All the Industry followed Cadillac innovations for 44 years... today Cadillac is making a strong comeback whether you or BMW like it or not. Since the original CTS till this date, Cadillac advanced further very fast and it reached a level where it is trying to restore its legacy and heritage.. "The New Standard of the World." FINAL WORDS... here in my country (and I assume around the world too), BMW, AUDI and MERCEDES cheerleaders can't even afford a 2004 Daewoo Matiz and yet they are judging great brands that are making a strong competition in the market with their great models and innovations.

What? Is GM still selling Cadillac as a performance luxury car to people? It's a GM for Pete's sake! Only two kind of monkeys will believe that stupidity; rappers and blind ones.

This car should be epic. The car was already awesome in V-Sport form, the V should completely dominate anything coming out of Germany.

If by nanny feature you mean PTM, then bring it on! Is it wrong that I kind of want an autonomous driving mode too?

Am I the only one who likes the massive grille? It looks like it's ready to eat up any car that gets in its way; so cool

OR, maybe it will have a screen (think Elmiraj) that fits over the top of the black waterfall. One of those two.

I predict production form of that grill will have a chrome frame with two chrome horizontal bars over that black waterfall base with the emblem in the middle of the top bar.

oh this is going to be quite the badass of luxo-high üerformance sports sedans. Cadillac has brilliantly mixed up brutality with elegance, style and finesse in the CTS-V. 10 years ago who would have actually thunk it, that Cadillac would dish out a car in a segment, practically invented and owned by the germans for decades. the previous gen. CTS-V already was perfectly capable of blowing the doors off of any M or AMG sedan. i just hope we'll get a wagon and a coupe too. and of course the ATS-V is mandatory too!
