Here's your tough question of the day: Would you rather drive a new Porsche Cayman GTS or a slightly older, 996-era Porsche 911 GT3? Certainly, both cars have their plusses. The Cayman is the more modern proposition, sure, but the GT3 is, well, a GT3. So yes, it's a tough decision.

If you're one of the lucky souls that have to make that choice, then this video from Evo should prove pretty helpful. It's a track battle, starring Jethro Bovingdon with a new GTS and an old GT3.

Calling the GTS "fantastically agile" and "fast, but it's also hilariously good fun," Bovingdon bangs home a solid lap time of 1:05.2 before switching to the GT3. It's remarkable to see just how dated the 996-generation 911 looks after viewing the newer Porsche, and from where we sit, it's further proof that the old car's headlights are something that's best forgotten. Styling qualms aside, though, can the GT3 keep up with its racy younger cousin?

You'll need to scroll down to find out. After watching the video, head into Comments and let us know which of these two vehicles you'd rather have. An informal straw poll of the Autoblog staff turned in a fairly even vote, so we're counting on you, loyal readers, to break the tie. Have your say below.

It would be nice to see how fast these cars would actually be if these journalists would actually drive them properly instead of playing Tokyo Drift to hide the fact they don't know how to turn a proper fast lap. As someone who instructed for a famous NorCal driving school for 3 years, this just drives me crazy. Put PDK in the GTS and it would have been a full second or maybe even 2 seconds quicker. Wait until the GT4 Cayman comes out which is now looking like a a twin turbo 450 hp monster according to information that surfaced in the past two days. The Cayman GT4 might just be Porsche's greatest current car when if finally debuts.

      Jethro Bodine ???
Love my 996 Turbo and the fact that Purists hate the headlights make me like it even more! I think, on the Turbo given its stance, the headlights give it character!

Cayman. A bit overpriced like all porsches but it looks absolutely incredible in person, especially in red, grey or black

Love that narrowbody 996 GT3. Just looks slightly awkward with that wing, but handsome in the same way.

"Ok, now let's put down a hot lap" *powerslides every other corner* Seriously though, as much as I am a sucker for the new Cayman/Boxsters, that 996 GT3 is looking like a great grab nowadays as it's sort of forgotten with the 997 - 991 GT3's grabbing all of the spotlight. Personally I feel the GT3, 4S, Turbo, and GT2 models have aged very well and still look great, though I still dislike the 996's interior more than any other gen by a good margin (so many cheap buttons, so much brittle hard plastic).

Even though it IS a GT3, the 996 designation is easily the least desirable of the 911's, the lack of rear fender contours is an affront to all Porsche's. Looks like a jelly bean.
