The Porsche 918 Spyder can be an object of lust for anyone who appreciates the finer things in the automotive world, but for us greenies with penchant for speed, the car is an icon. This gorgeous, all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid offers 887 horsepower and 940 pound-feet of torque, can do 0-60 in just 2.5 seconds and is capable of 214 miles per hour. It lapped the Nürburgring in a record 6:57. Still, it is capable of near-silent, relaxed cruising through one of Europe's busiest cities.

In a new video from Porsche, chief driving instructor Gordon Robertson takes the 918 to London and does just that. While driving in E-Power mode, he describes some of the things that make the car special, as well as how the technology has developed through the 911 GT3 R Hybrid and the 919 LMP1 car to eventually be passed onto the Panamera S E-Hybrid. If you're interested, you can learn more about the car in our own drive review, here.

It's great to see, for the first time, the 918 Spyder driving alongside London's black cabs and double-decker buses. The rubbernecking from pedestrians is noticeable and completely understandable. I'm sure we'd all love to see this car come silently sneaking down our own city streets, but until Porsche makes that happen, you'll just have to enjoy the video below.

20 Miles Electric range = End of this story for me. This is just ridiculous for a Porsche PHEV of any type, sorry ! Nothing less than 60M will work, and to secure best practice of "one charge every 2 x days only", a 100M full EV range would be a lot better (Means a good 3000 x cycles battery can last # 20 Years and the car can have a decent re-selling value, instead of 10 years with oine charge per day, or 5 years with 2 x charges per day required with your wrong 80% of my yearly milleage hence must provide a Porsche experience by themselves ! Then set the battery at least 30KWH or more with great Instant power, say 7C providing # 200KW, and price that "mainstream PHEV" MACAN as : 4 Cyl + PHEV = 6 Cyl, means set a €60K starting point price tag VAT included, means €76K all inclusive price, so you can make the 1st PHEV volume hit, by offering something that in the mid-term smart people will see as "BETTER THAN TESLA" despite much a smaller battery, but with a Range Extender that Teslas are missing, so your customers can still go far away on vacations in the summer ! Please don't miss the Macan PHEV next year....

Now tell me, why on earth is this not shown on both the original and green autoblog but there's a poll on a diesel Focus that's shown on both? This deserves a wider audience. It's Porsche we're talking about!

Very good publicity for EV's ! An EV Porsche with 887 horsepower, 940 pound-feet of torque, c 0-60 in 2.5 seconds and 214 mph ! This kind of "poster pin-up" vehicle with it's famous badge, does more to capture the imagination of the motoring public than all the preaching by green activists, and Ed Begley, Jr clones. Go Porsche !

"Panamera S E-Hybrid" They just has to throw an S in there to assure customers that, though electric, it's still sporty. Unnecessarily insecure move on Porsche's part. The name shuts sounds long and convoluted.
