Subaru has made another trip to the infamous Isle of Man TT, bringing along its all-new 2015 Subaru WRX STI. The goal? Best the already impressive time set by rally ace Mark Higgins and the 2011 Impreza WRX STI on the same swirling, high-paced ribbon of tarmac. Of course, you already know how that went.

What we didn't know when the story first broke, though, was that Subaru was monitoring data. Specifically, Higgins' data. He was fitted with a monitor that would record his heart rate, breaths, skin temperature and the g forces he was faced with as he lapped the 37-plus-mile road course. While Higgins and Co. were aiming to best their 2011 time (19:56.7), this year's effort also saw a push to beat the time of the sidecar racers.

You can get a recap of the entire event, with plenty of footage and data from Higgins' lap in the exhilarating video below. Take a look.

are we sure this thing is stock, other than the safety, suspension and such? As a past STI owner, with stage 2 upgrade, i was shocked on how quick this thing climbed from 120 to 160mph? The sti is a beast from 0-100, but even on a long straight I could not achieve 140 in a timely fashion. Not to mention the gear ratio, third gear at 60mph...

"The WRX STI used for the record breaking run was a standard Subaru production car, equipped with a 300PS Horizontally-Opposed Boxer engine, unmodified brake callipers and with road-legal Pirelli P Zero Trofeo tyres. Springs and dampers were adjusted to minimise any potential damage when the car encountering the various bumps and jumps at high speed along the course." Such a sweet car! It will be even better when they get a new engine or more HP out of this engine.

Shouldn't call it all-new with the ancient EJ257 under the hood. I feel sorry for the people who bought the 2015 STI.

While I wouldn't buy a 15 sti (I'd wait for it to get the new engine) what wondrous race car do you drive that would surely beat this sti's time?

Excellent straw man argument, nearly textbook perfect except for the part where you agree that the STI needs a new engine. 9/10

I'm still curious what you drive. I have a 2010 WRX that's been lightly modded and while I do worry because of course I've heard things, I tend to drive nicely as I'm overprotective and in my mind I hope that it staves off any scary breakdowns *knock on wood* But I have just over 51k miles on it and it's been perfectly reliable
