Owners affected by the General Motors ignition switch recall are getting even an better incentive to return to its brands for their next new car. The automaker says that these drivers can now get employee pricing on its models. Previously, GM was only offering them a $500 discount if they bought a new 2013 to 2015 vehicle.

According to GM spokesperson Jim Cain speaking to Autoblog, the company has been offering the incentive to affected owners for about a month. But it purposefully isn't advertising it or disclosing volumes. "We want to give dealers as many tools as they need to satisfy customers," he said. Buyers get employee pricing on 2013 to 2015 models, which is a certain percentage below dealer invoice, and it replaces the previous $500 offer. It will be available throughout the duration of the recall.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the original $500 enticement wasn't enough to bring buyers back to showrooms. Many of the roughly 2.6 million affected vehicles are on their second or third owners, and they might not be able to afford a new car.

GM's recall campaign for the ignition switches began in April. Cain said the effort is going as planned. Delphi is running multiple shifts for replacement parts and may add a second or third production line. The company expects to have a majority of vehicles repaired by October. In the meantime, affected drivers can take advantage of free loaners while their car is serviced.

BIG DEAL! I worked for Generous Motors 30 years ago......when their discount was way better than it is now. And even THEN, it was no sweat off their brow to give us a break....the vehicles were still way over-priced. NOW, the employee discount offered to Ford and GM workers is ridiculous. They frequently advertise they'll give to all customers when sales slow. That ought to tell you something. The discount percentage has been reduced to the point of being a slap in the face.

GM screwed up, tried to cover their backside and got caught now their trying to back-step. NO MORE BAILOUTS. The recalls will continue and they will soon claim that they will have to go bankrupt because of this. Amazing how no one is responsible and you wonder why the country is the way it is.

What a dam bunch of crooks..And they are allowed to get away with it. Why? Rich people can get away with anything then they laugh at the honest hard working people they screw. I bought a trk. and the frame rotted out it was like new 36k on it but they knew the factory undercoating on all 99 to 05 gmc trucks was junk they gave me a big run around and that was it. I payed 14k for a truck that I got junk price for in 5 yrs. time I should get another 15 yrs.of use but the frame was gone. I just have to wonder how these big rich people can sleep at night..

Does GM think the consumer is stupid? Hello, you paid over $20,000 for that vehicle and now it's not worth anything but they are giving you Employee financing to spend another $20,000 on another GM vehicle. Not only do they sell another car but you are now out $40,000. The big guys at GM are padding their pockets with our money and boy do they live like Kings. I agree, buy back my HHR that I bought new and has less than 25,000 miles that no one wants.

How long before Gubmint Motors just gives new UAW built vehicles to the poor saps that bought the last batch of UAW produced vehicles..... remember when GM made good cars and Fords had the reputation of "Fix Or Repair Daily"....it wasn't that long ago - right before they let accountants and Wall Street traders start to run the business or worse, the gubmint.

What state do you live in ? salt state or by the ocean? I live in Pa (a salt state, not as bad as say NY or other New England states) . I work in auto repair and I don't see GM truck frames rusty , brake lines on the other hand too frequent. GM recently started to put stainless steel brake lines on new trucks and you can buy replacement stainless lines pre-shaped from GM for about the same cost as I used to charge to cut bend & flare replacement steel lines.

I don't have any mercy for GM, not after the stunt they pulled back in 2007 when I purchased a performance crate engine for my classic Camaro. It was internally defective, and even though I pressured them to try to simply exchange it, they spent all crazy kinds of money on that crate engine to have it removed out of the car, pull out the defective crankshaft, all kinds of parts, bearings, crank, seals, gaskets, etc. They would have saved a lot of money by have simply exchanged the crate engine!!! I was shocked to how stupid they handled this, me communicating to dealer, GM in Detroit, GM performance parts, me getting almost threatening calls to stop calling them , and shortly thereafter, they filed for bankruptcy, and the bailouts began,,, and them begging for money, while all the while they poorly handled my defective engine situation with the upmost stupidity,,,,go to HE_ _!!
