NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick loves buying first-built Chevrolet models for charity. He paid $1 million to buy the first production 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible and $650,000 to get the first 2014 Chevy Camaro Z/28.

Hendrick's latest purchase happened at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Palm Beach where he got into a bidding war to pay $1 million to get the first 2015 Corvette Z06. The bidding came quick with the car reaching $100,000 within 3 seconds and hitting $500,000 in about 35 seconds.

The money from the sale was donated to the Karmanos Cancer Institute.

      Let your money in the bank and stock market they will steal it off of you. What do you have left of GM useless stock when the government bailed them out? Nothing at least he has a Corvette. Cancer use to be a death 50 years ago. Now they have some survivors.

      With millions un-employed and millions losing their homes, and millions going to bed hungry , right here in America, it seems almost irresponsible to WASTED this much money on a hunk of metal just because someone fell in love with the wrinkles in the metal. Help feed the needy - no, I don't mean G.M.Corp of China

        In 50 years that car will bring in 5 times that amount because it's Vin number shows it to be the first 2015. Recently a restored, 1965 Mustang convertible, the first off the line in 1964, was worth 10 times what she paid for the vehicle, new. Chances are, this person that paid a million dollars for this car is a Democrat. They are the only ones that have money now thanks to Obamas and the job losses, closing of businesses and huge costs of Obamacare and Obama's increased taxes to pay his uncontrollable spending.

          larry, how pathetic are you? You seriously turned a charity auction into something political. Stick to the political web sites and leave the rest alone cause nobody cares.

        And how do you know he doesn't contribute to the needy or other charities. He's a man who's worked hard his whole life and you don't get to tell him how or what to spend his money on. Not to mention the fact that the money did go to charity. Just curious, how much do you donate to the needy?

        First off, the corvette is a fiberglass bodied, steel and composite chassis 2seater sports car. Secondly, the millions getting billions of aid from the Federal Government puts that baloney of unemployed and homeless people going to bed hungry to rest, IF and it's a BIG IF, if they are properly spending their aid on the basic necessities of living, not drugs, luxuries, etc. Thirdly, the monies went to a worthy charity…so, let it go!!!!

      They just had a recall now is that car worth a million or less?
        • 11 Months Ago
        @joe
        Can't have a recall on a car that isn't even on the road yet. You do realize most the recalls for GM are for parts not built by them right?

      Donating ANY money to a cancer research institute is a WASTE. 50 years or more of study and they aren't any closer to a cure. Or are they? Or do they just want you to keep pouring money into them so they have jobs?

        guess you've missed the cure and remission rate of late. It's increased greatly in the last 20 yrs.
