NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick loves buying first-built Chevrolet models for charity. He paid $1 million to buy the first production 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible and $650,000 to get the first 2014 Chevy Camaro Z/28.

Hendrick's latest purchase happened at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Palm Beach where he got into a bidding war to pay $1 million to get the first 2015 Corvette Z06. The bidding came quick with the car reaching $100,000 within 3 seconds and hitting $500,000 in about 35 seconds.

The money from the sale was donated to the Karmanos Cancer Institute. Scroll down to watch the video and the bidding war that raised the price so high.

And worst than that because in the dumbass world of Barret Jackson, the fact that he paid $1M makes it worth $1M the next time it goes up for sale. So he gets his writeoff, the charity gets it's money, and the taxpayers who don't cheat carry the whole affair. Lame.

"the fact that he paid $1M makes it worth $1M the next time it goes up for sale. " 1) that's not true at all.. it will be worth whatever the open market says its worth. the last public offer for 2009 ZR1 001 was half a million.. if you remember, that car also went for a million at barrett jackson. 2) you're kind of an *******. taxpayers that don't cheat? is Hendrix not a tax payer? i'm pretty sure he pays more $$$ in taxes than about 50 of your average americans. calling a rich guy a "cheat" because he donates to charity is an incredible arrogant and selfish thing to do... i gave about $1000 to charity last year. am i a cheat because i claimed it on my tax return?

And what makes you think all the wealthy are cheats? Can you prove this guy is? What do you suggest the rich do with their money, give it to fat, lazy sacks of **** like yourself, so you can spend it on more booze, cigarettes, and lottery tickets while you continue to sit back and make excuses for why you can't work? It's people of your mentality who make a good case for birth control and adoption.

Truedat There's no satisfying some of these bleeding hearts, like our friend KarlinSandyVagina, because no matter what, anyone with money is a heathen no matter what they do. That said, I think our thick skulled, self centered friend here would would be singing a different tune if the money going to this charity benefitted him.

So I guess depreciation is just a myth then. Just because this guy was willing to pay that much for this car doesn't mean someone else will be a few years down the road. Stick to things you know.

What sad is that many Chevy dealers will use this to try and justify ADMs on the Z06.

Why is supply and demand "sad?" If you don't want to pay it, go to another dealer or don't buy a Z06 until prices come down.

A lot of people want something for nothing these days. What those folks need to understand is that buying a car is not like shopping at Wal Mart or getting an oversized plate of pasta a Caraba's.

Hey idiot cheeseballs who cares what car you like or think he should have bought. Read the frigin story, Hendrick just donated 1,650,000.00 dollars that will go to cancer research. Hopefully you wont have to realize that after smoking Marlboro Reds for the last 50 years.

This is for charity, not all of the money is for the car... But you're a troll and an intolerable ponce so you wouldn't actually know that.

Whatever you do, don't quit your day job. I hate to be the one to state the obvious, but the sink hole under the Corvette museum has nothing to do with the car itself, so why do you haters keep bringing it up?

True charity is donating anonymously and expecting nothing in return.

LOL and for a half mil, it will spend the majority of it's time on a hoist in the service department trying to iron out all of it's first year run glitches. But at least the Karmanos Cancer Institute will benefit from this charitable contribution, so it's a awesome way to help!
