Our own Matt Davis may have called the new Jaguar F-Type R Coupe "one heady rascal," but our review was disappointingly short on drifting, tire smoke and general, English shenanigans. You know, the sort of things that Chris Harris from Drive excels at.

Actually, relative to Harris' other reviews, this one is rather serious. There's a good recap of the F-Type on the road, with Harris referencing the car's "great bottom" and "amazing ass," quite frequently. Surprisingly, Harris says the more powerful F-Type R is just "incrementally" faster than the 495-horsepower F-Type V8 S Convertible. Following the on-road portion, it's off to the track. You can probably predict what goes on there. Overall, aside from some quibbles, Harris has nothing but praise for the newest cat.

This is nice. It really is, BUT.... no where near to topple my all time favorite Jaguar. 1966 Jaguar XJ13. Man that is one gorgeous machine.

I LOVE the XK120 fhc. Art Deco & sinister with a bassy XK engine. :)

I'd be interested to know why he feels that the 911 is currently "the weakest it's been in a long, long while." Does he feel it's not a good value for money? Is it the lack of a manual in the GT3? The switch to electric-assist power steering? All of these? Or something else entirely?

The electric steering mostly. Porsche as a brand has also been pulling away from enthusiasts a bit.

Losing the manual didn't help either. The GT3 is supposed about fun not lap times.

Well, in all honesty I never considered a 911, even 911 Turbo, to be a supercar. Look at what's happening today…it takes 500+ genuine SAE net horsepower to get a fair mention….when 99% of the buying public are just plain incompetent drivers to begin with. And I say begin with because the driving instruction and experience by new drivers is pathetic if not terrifying. Luckily, it seems the Silicon Valley ex-mommy's basement dwellers don't gravitate to CO2-generating vehicles…they prefer electric or virtual reality. I'm not particularly a 911 fanboy, but I can see it's just not trying to compete with Jag…it's the other way 'round. Now, the Porsche Carrerra GT….aaahhh…I don't think I'll ever get to drive one much less own one and after the Walker fiasco, one must remember…a man's gotta know his limits.

I think it's because Porsche hasn't taken any risk with design/drive. But if you ask a Porsche fanatic that's what they don't want. It's a fine line for a brand to keep their hardliners while attracting new clientele.

The ultimate trophy wife car. Jaguar in general is a golden-p*ssy wife brand.

If you think the F-Type is a chick car, you must date some pretty manly chicks. "Why does my 'golden p*ssy wife' have chest hair and an Adam's apple?"

These British mags pretend to be objective while the only thing they ever do is sell the cars for their national brands. For the most part, its working brilliantly. Most people now think Welsh cows have excellent leather compared to Ohio cows.

My gut reaction for almost any car made by jaguar or any car only available with an auto transmission (like all mercs) is blahhhhhh. But this thing is plain stunning and looks like a hoot to toss around. That vicious exhaust from a luxury GT is music to my ears. I'll never be blessed to drive one of these, but I'll settle for having the pleasure of sticking my ear right up to the exhaust tip and blast my eardrum to shreds while someone revs the hell out of it.

This. I currently daily drive a 2000 XJR. I love it, but it would be SO much better with a stick. Same with my friends E55 AMG and C63. They're great cars, but they're sort of boring to me because they're automatic only. The manual for the F-type can't get here soon enough.

i think this opinion is mostly triggeed by the fact that there's no manual option on the GT3 and the electric steering. Other than that Porsche is sellig more cars than ever.

This is the kind of car and drive review that brings me joy. Take a super gorgeous car, thank you Jaguar for finding your core, and a highly skilled driver not afraid to drive the snot out of it, pair them together and let it rip. There seems to be very little shortage of uber expensive cars vying for the dollars of the 1% types and while it's nice to see how technology has produced very good driving cars, this is one that isn't just aspirational but inspirational. It's a pretty cat with the claws to actully be more then just a boulevard cruiser. So while the Corvette C-7 has grabbed hold of the affordable/performance bang for the buck segment , Porsche continues it's fine line of new offerings but is just stupid with it's option cost. Sorry to say, they also look all much alike and none has the passion and beauty of this Jag or it's roadster version. This all being said, I wish the auto press would begin to notice that most of us cannot afford these pricey cars unless a winning lottery/powerball ticket sits unredeemed in our coin box. Can we please see more coverage, drives, and comparisons on the cars the average hard working citizens can drive. For every Fiesta ST test drive comparo, there are 5 times the number of the latest uber offerings from the german tuning houses(M,AMG,RS,etc) that an uncles inheritance might temp us to buy but practicallity and need would say no way.

We've been focusing on great new and used cars under 50k since the beginning. We'd love to have you watching... Because, well-filmed expensive cars going sideways in a cloud of smoke is what gets lots of eyeballs. And Chris and his Shooter/Editor Neil are among the very best.
