It's Friday, so there must be a new configurator to play with. While last week we showed you how to build your own McLaren 650S, today's ride is a bit more common. It's the 2015 Cadillac Escalade, a vehicle that you've been able to colorize since the end of last year, and which is sure to be an increasingly common sight on US roads in the coming months.

For those that have played with the build-your-Caddy tool, there's not much new here, aside from the vehicle being configured. The Escalade is available in three trims and two wheelbases, with prices spanning from the SWB, two-wheel-drive Standard, which starts at $72,690, on to the all-wheel-drive, long-wheelbase ESV Premium, which kicks off at $86,790. The options list, meanwhile, isn't hugely extensive. A rear-seat entertainment system and power-retractable side-steps (only available on the Premium trim) are the two notable options, while customers will have their choice of six exterior paints and two to three interior schemes, depending on the trim level.

Hop on over to Cadillac's consumer page and take a look.

Hardly any other vehicle on the road screams "I am a yokel; I've got no taste, and I am not afraid to show it" as loudly as Cadillac Escalade.

I don't get why people look to this thing as a status symbol. I just don't get it. As a symbol, it tells the world you have poor taste, poor values and poor judgement. So weird.

No offense to you, Barnard, but I suspect if we were to unpack the lives of typical Pimp Truck owners, you'd see an unforgettable collection of bad taste and tacky style.

That IS its exact purpose. GM execs know that trashy taste often has plenty of money to spend on demonstrating their particular lifestyle ethic.

At least a Range Rover or a Porsche Cayenne can do the things a Sport Utility Vehicle are supposed to do. This thing is just a big, flashy couch on wheels. It's as heavy as a tank, handles poorly, looks absurd, can't go off road, and fills the coffers of Saudi Arabia, given its abysmal mpg. So, buying one is like advertising you're totally clueless.

No one wants to take an $80k SUV offroad, the Escalade is designed to tow, haul, and carry people in comfort. Those are things it is actually used for and excels at. The Porsche can't match it on those fronts.

Sure, the Cayenne is faster than the Escalade, but it's twice as ugly and can't match the interior size and towing capacity. Props to Range Rover, though; it can actually perform off-road. But in all the times I've had my Jeep out, I've never seen a RR on the trails.

Yes I'd love to see either of those tow 10,000 or haul 2,000 and be as reliable as the Escalade and still haul 8 people and give you the same features for under $100,000. They're both in different leagues.

Or, when the $5 price hits, unusual numbers of these ponderous things will mysteriously be "stolen" or "catch fire," with the twisted hope that the insurance company will bail out the leasers from their financial pit.

Klimo- you forget that most of these will be leased by the same people who have 45 year adjustable rate mortgages on their McMansions and $50,000+ in credit card debt.

My wife was with me in the car recently and we saw a new Escalade EXT black on black with an M-plate on it. My wife says 'when did Cadillac start making Escalade hearses?' all this of course unknowingly that this was in fact, just a new Escalade, not a hearse or anything of that nature. To which I stated that it was 'just a new Escalade', and she said 'man those are ugly and the tailights are obnoxiously large!'.
