Put your pouty faces on American enthusiasts, because there's yet another European hot hatch that won't be making a trek across the pond. This is the new Vauxhall Adam S, a "close-to-production" version of the adorable Adam city car, which is also sold in continental Europe as an Opel.

With the Adam S, Vauxhall has taken the standard car's naturally aspirated 1.4-liter engine and slapped a turbocharger on it to make 148 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. Don't think that this is merely a tuned-up version of the turbocharged 1.4 kicking about in American cars like the Chevrolet Sonic and Cruze, though. According to Vauxhall, this is a bespoke deal for the Adam S. The top speed rests at 137 miles per hour, while stop-start technology means the angrier Adam won't hurt too much at the petrol stations.

A six-speed manual delivers the 1.4's power to the front wheels, although there's no specific mention of acceleration figures. A stiffer suspension has been fitted, as well. The brawny brakes, meanwhile, are branded as VXR units and feature 16-inch front rotors. Equally radical are the 15-inch pizza pans on the rear axle, although there're no specifics beyond those figures.

Shielding those brakes are meaty 18-inch alloys. Aside from those wheels, a showy rear spoiler is the most dramatic change to the Adam S' exterior, although a revised fascia and exhaust outlet also add a bit of verve to the Adam's adorable looks. There are also a few faux carbon fiber items on the exterior, as well. According to Vauxhall, the cabin has been fitted with Recaro buckets and a new steering wheel and gear shift, all of which are finished with red accents.

We'll have much more on the Vauxhall Adam S when it makes its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show tomorrow. Until then, have a look at the official presser from Vauxhall.

Geneva reveal of top-of-the-range performance ADAM
1.4 Turbo engine and performance chassis unique to ADAM S
VXR braking system with four disc brakes

Luton – Breaking cover at the Geneva Motor Show is the close-to-production ADAM S, the hot new performance version of Vauxhall's urban chic newcomer.

The ADAM S featuring a 150PS, 1.4-litre Turbo ECOTEC engine, sports-tuned suspension, VXR braking system and distinctive 'Red 'n Roll' styling.

With 150PS and 220Nm of torque on tap, the special new version of the 1.4-litre Turbo ECOTEC unit in the ADAM S gets a specific power output exceeding 100PS/litre. It is a turbocharged, high performance unit derived from the ADAM's existing four-cylinder, 1.4-litre engine, that has been exclusively developed for the ADAM S. It delivers 50 per cent more horsepower and 70 per cent more torque than its naturally-aspirated 1.4-litre stable-mate. Mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, it propels the ADAM S to a top speed of 137mph.

ADAM S's 1.4 Turbo engine includes dual cam phasing for continuously variable valve timing and a turbocharger integrated within the exhaust manifold for reduced weight and compact packaging. Numerous weight-saving features include a cast iron block with a hollow frame structure, hollow-cast camshafts and a plastic intake manifold. Start/Stop technology is naturally fitted, and the engine already meets the future Euro 6 emission standards.

More power is just part of this powertrain's appeal – it also has a specially-tuned performance chassis developed exclusively for the ADAM S and direct, sharp performance steering to match. The car displayed on the Vauxhall/Opel stand also reveals how stopping power is increased with the installation of larger VXR performance 'S' Red Brakes including 16-inch front and 15-inch rear discs featuring red-painted calipers. The 18-inch wheels are fitted with 225/35 R 18 tyres.

Unique looks with Red 'n Roll design theme

The ADAM S gives further impressions of features from the future production version. Its red body paint is paired with an anthracite grey roof enhanced by a special rear spoiler; the grille brand bar and door mirror caps both feature a sporty carbon-look. The front lip spoiler, side sill moldings and an extended rear bumper cut-out with a visible, bold exhaust tailpipe complete the ADAM S livery.

The cabin features front Recaro Performance seats in Morrocana and leather and adopts ADAM S's unique Red 'n Roll design theme. It consists of a leather pack, including a red leather-trimmed steering wheel, gearshift and handbrake as well as distinctive red and white flashes on the instrument and door panels. Many further refined details allow for more individualisation.

The close-to-production ADAM S version also has black rear privacy glass, LED daytime running and rear tail lights, electronic climate control and Vauxhall's sophisticated IntelliLink system that offers state-of-the-art connectivity and apps. This infotainment system is fully compatible with latest smartphones using both ANDROID and Apple iOS. It provides USB and Bluetooth connectivity, audio streaming, seven speakers and a seven-inch high-definition colour touch-screen. Vauxhall's smart IntelliLink system also provides navigation by the BringGo app, as well as the Stitcher and TuneIn apps. The integration of Apple iOS devices into the system enables use of the Siri Eyes Free voice control function. It's safe and easy-to-use technology which makes ADAM the best connected small car on the market.

GM is utterly insane not to bring this over here. Look how may little Fiat 500s they sell.

How can GM have cars this beautiful in Europe and torture us with such startlingly ugly atrocities as the Spark here? Yes, I know, they torment Europe with that monstrosity too but at least they respect the taste level of European buyers enough to provide some some mouth-watering (as opposed to gut-wrenching) alternatives.

GM wants to sell high profit bass guzzling SUVs and Pick-up Trucks and lack-luster compacts. There is no showroom space for runaway halo cars lilt the Adam S, that would be too easy!

Oh, I'm sorry, is this US Autoblog, exclusively for US domestic-market auto news? Heck, why are they even covering the Geneva Motor Show, then? Bound to be lots of things there we Yanks don't get. Some people enjoy reading about and knowing about the WORLD of cars. My love of cars doesn't have any boundaries, national or otherwise.

"This is the new Vauxhall Adam S, a "close-to-production" version of the adorable Adam city car, which is also sold in continental Europe as an Opel." This is an Opel development like most Vauxhalls...or Buicks these days.

Maybe this could be a new small Buick? Isn't that what happened with the other Opels that were once destined to be Saturns?

Looks like a 500, but less cute which might work for some buyers.

"Another hot hatch we cant have" - Don't worry, I almost guarentee you won't miss it. The Adam is based off the Corsa, which other than being quiet for a car in its class, is totally average to drive, except for the steering, which is both too heavy and completely lifeless at the same time. If you want a fashion accessory car - which is what the Adam is designed to be - then you'd be far better off with either a MINI or the Fiat 500.
