We've seen it teased, caught it testing, hell, we've even driven the thing, but until just now, we hadn't been privy to the visual drama that is the all-new Honda Civic Type R Concept. Thankfully, the day before the start of the Geneva Motor Show is about as leaky as Robert Redford's sailboat.

We'll get the full details tomorrow – which may even include a discourse on Honda's 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that will make upwards of 280 horsepower and propel the car to Nürburgring-record-braking velocities. After all, the "Concept" portion of most Honda concept cars is generally lip-service only.

In fact, save for those blacked out windows and, perhaps, a couple millimeters of ride height and those extra-aggro wheels, we pretty much expect the production Type R to look like the beast you see here. Certainly the swooping form and 'roided wheel arches suit the boy-racer persona of the Civic very well; we wouldn't even put it past Honda's funky European arm to sell the final product with some version of that bi-plane wing.

Here's hoping.

At any rate, we'll only have to wait another day or so before the Civic Type R Concept is revealed in full, and in the metal. Stay tuned to our Geneva coverage so you don't miss the (leaky) boat.

      Hi! Here some things about this car. I read some people complaining about the fact that it is FWD. The people who already drove the prototype didn't encounter any torque steer problems. Besides, I believe it won't be a problem. Many hot hatches in Europe are FWD and drive brilliantly. For instance, I drove the new SEAT Leon Cupra (2.0 litre/280 hp), that just beat the Nürburgring record, and it was amazing to drive (on track and on regular roads). A limited slip differencial do wonders, you know? With 280 hp, the Leon Cupra was so well balanced it amazed me, also reacting perfectly to the exit of the corners when you put the power through the wheels. Then we have the old fashion complaints of rear beam suspension. Oh boy! It doesn't mean that a car is automatically bad. A rear beam axle, if well conceived and put on a great chassis, can be as good as a multilink rear suspension. I mean, on an extreme situation, you'll feel something of a difference, but you'll have to get to the very extreme. And how many regular drivers go to the extreme with their cars? Yeah... not many. I bet if you put an average driver in a rear ream axle car and then in a multilink car, he won't notice the difference... Now, you're reading all this yada, yada, yada, but hey, now you're saying 'hey, smart shoes, give me some example of that talk'. Well, Renault Mégane R.S.. I know they aren't available in the States, but hey, believe me, what a heck of a car. It has 265 hp and rear beam axle. Drives supperbly!! Sure, you have a 400 hp car then you need a multilink suspension, because of the natural constraints of the power of the car. But, just don't diss a car because of the technical specs. Another point: will this car arrive in the States? Well, unfortunately for some of you guys, I'm afraid not. The car is not due for the USA as it is a car developed for the European market (and produced in England, for that matter) and mostly not linked with the current line-up that Honda sells in the US. Another point: most of the American designed cars have different settings. I mean, I drove an European Chevy Camaro and it was... well, let's say, not that good, compared for instance with a Golf GTI or even a Mégane RS. And they were supposed to be worlds apart. The same with Lancia Flavia (previoulsy known as Chrysler 200). Great looks, bad option for Europe and European tastes. Well, and that's all! (Sorry for the long text...) Cheers!!

      I would much rather look at these than the current Si. Bring on the turbos. Also, with the TSX on the way out their is no reason not to try a turbo version.

      We'll see. It may be fun, but RWD would be far better all the way around. Even Honda knows that FWD cars ultimately cannot compete against either RWD or AWD cars in racing. With that, why create the persona of a race car which cannot hope to perform like one? Thanks Honda. Millions of actual boy racers will be gratified that you offered another half-hearted attempt at running with the likes of Corvettes.

          Yes, the politics tried to slow the dominance of the Civics. The Civics were running with the maximum weight penalty to slow them, while the 3-series were running minimum weight. Didn't help. I'll just ignore the stupid F1 comparison to a passenger car.

          how many FWD F1 cars are there? "production" car series are often decided by politics in the rule making body rather than any actual quality in a given street car.

      Y2K is calling and wants that wing back.. I wish they had a design that gave you the option of Big Ass Wing or No big ass wing. Realistically how often are you driving fast enough where you need that much downforce? I think the overall design is pretty tight. It's not a practical car in the northeast with all the pot holes we've been getting ever year. You'll be change suspension parts and replacing dented wheels very VERY often. I test drove the Ford Fiesta ST and it was horrible for NYC streets. These are west coast / deep south cars
