It's common for auto enthusiasts to have a few miniatures of their favorite cars around their home or office. They provide a respite of happiness knowing that if you can't have the real things, at least you can look at them in miniature. However, Billy Karam of Beirut, Lebanon, has taken collecting toy cars to its extreme. His collection of over 30,000 model cars and 400 dioramas is certified by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's largest collection of car toys.

"You cannot buy the big ones, so you buy a thousand of the small ones instead," says Karam in the video.

Karam is a former amateur racing driver with a weakness for all things Porsche, and many of his dioramas depict races that he drove in or attended. Looking at them gives him a chance to relive the experiences again, but unlike a photo or video, they are right there in three dimensions.

Scroll down to watch this astounding Cool Hunting video narrated by the collection's captivating owner.

Don't feel too bad. I bet you've got some nice ones-probably some that I cannot even afford.

Based on how many high end Porsche 1:43 -1:18-1:16 and up models iv'e seen, he definitely has 2 991's in that porsche collection alone. high end 1:18 are not cheap, They are not your maisto or motormax, they run from 200-600$ for most high end brands, while a CMC model can run you 800$ 1:16 and up runs into the 2000-4000$ mark, some ultra high end brands AM specializes in ultra realistic 1:10 scale and run 8000$-12000$ for certain cars, while most high end 1:43 run 100-170$ -300-400$ as for the 1:64 scale, 20-30$ or hundreds of dollars, depends on the brand and rarity, all in all this entire collection is probably worth a million or more.

and I thought I had a large collection of diecast. I have over 500 1/24th scale NASCAR diecast and other high end cars that I enjoy from my childhood. All in all I have close to 10 grand invested but this is just nuts! I love it

While his countrymen suffered under Gaddafi, he spent his money, which would make for an interesting story on where it came from, on toy cars. In this regard Billy Karam sort of reminds me of Uday Hussein.

Whoops. I just realized you didn't mix up Lebanon with its neighbor but with a country that starts with L. That would be Libya.
