To luxury automakers, long-wheelbase sedans are to China that crossovers and SUVs are to the US, so it isn't all that surprising any more when the latest sedan gets an extra couple of inches between the wheels to improve rear-seat comfort. According to Car News China, the next sedan to get the stretch will be the Cadillac ATS, which will increase the wheelbase by 10 centimeters (about four inches) to become the ATS-L.

Designed to go up against rivals like the BMW 335Li and the added-length Mercedes C-Class, the ATS-L will reportedly be built locally in China with an engine list that will grow as well. Currently, only the 2.0-liter turbo engine is offered in the ATS in China, but the ATS-L will get the full spectrum of ATS engines including the base 2.5-liter and the peppier 3.6-liter V6. This isn't the first time Cadillac has offered a China-specific stretched sedan either as the SLS dates back to 2006.

The shortage of rear seat space is a serious shortcoming for the ATS. 2 or 3 extra inches back there would make a good car great.

I wouldn't mind seeing this here. I like LWB cars to begin with, and the ATS is rather tight in the back.

I'm surprised it gets the 3.6 as an option because of their taxes. I would have guess the Chinese specific 3.0.

They need to release this in the USA. Maybe even a hatchback like the bmw 3 series gt. The ats and even the cts are lacking in rear legroom. Does anyone else besides me have an infant car seat that takes up a ton of space? Oh and while I'm dreaming, put a manual tranny on the model with a v6.

It seems that cars come in in all different sizes like tshirts, only for the Chinese market.

Why not just buy a CTS?

Because it is just as cramped as the ATS in the back and costs a lot more.

Chevy you are a bunch of sell outs. Seems like Chevy has had to much chines. Great now I will never buy a Chevy again. Whats new anyways, our country has sold out to every country but its own. There is no point working for the United State that spends most of its money and resources for other country. We pay for other country with are tax. I think a law needs to be past were we the people can decide where are tax dollars our going. If I could I would pass a law that lets the people decide on there w4 if the fed tax is for other country or just ours. The government thinks it knows whats best for our country and how to spend our money, but there the dummies for thinking that. The government is not doing a good job with its own people. Did you know our country is going to **** in a hand basket. If the people stand together, we the people are stronger then the government. We need to change the way the rest of the world looks at use. They call use the world police. We have no right invading other country for no reason. That is just what it is.

What does any of this have to do with a new long wheel base Cadillac ATS?

You know USA is formed by people from all over the world right ? What make USA strong and unique are innovations and cooperation based on the integration of different cultures. Any one who are not native American can trace his /her root back to another country and may still have relatives live there. USA was and is and will be built by people from all over the world.

Chinamen who can afford cars want limos and chauffeurs, GM wants to make money. There's no rocket science here people. So stop talking about the CTS.

How come China gets all the stretched wheelbase cars only, I mean they are mostly short there anyways.

Only the rich Chinese buy cars, and the rich Chinese want to be chauffeured in a limo. So automakers are making their entry level luxury cars into limos for the Chinese.

I was literally going to say the same thing. Not to stereotype, but statistically, Americans are taller than Chinese people. Why can't we get a few more inches for an extra $3,000 or so. I understand why some would think this would step on the CTS, but it wouldn't. The CTS is a more sophisticated car, and still would be in a higher price bracket than a long wheelbase ATS. For instance, a long wheelbase Audi A8 does not automatically go up a class and compete with the Bentley Flying Spur/Rolls-Royce Ghost.

What you fail to realize is that the wealthy folks there are well fed and just as tall and fat as Americans now, lol and this is a car for the wealthy. People are mostly shorter in china because food was hard to come by under Mao and everyone grew up starving and growth stunted. There's plenty of tall people in china now, usually younger people from upper middle class or well off families. Quit being a racist idiot, Chinese people aren't genetically prone to being any shorter, they're short for the same reason folks who grew up in the Great Depression were short, Americans got far taller after WWII
