Some things just don't make sense. But then we're not sure they really have to. Imagine Porsche took the Cayman, which is essentially the coupe version of the Boxster, and turned it into a convertible. Wouldn't make much sense, would it? Well that's essentially what Lotus did with the creation of the Exige S Roadster.

The Exige, you see, was already the fixed-roof version of the Elise. So what was the point in turning it back into a roadster? That's what our friends at XCar tried to ascertain in the video below. We could tell you what conclusion they arrived at, but that would spoil all the fun. So we'll just let you enjoy the seven-minute clip and see for yourself. Just remember: it doesn't have to make sense. It just has to be a Lotus.

*facepalm* the exige is not "just" a fixed roof version of the elise. ESPECIALLY in the new v6 powered exiges. in fact, its NEVER even had a fixed roof. The hardtop pops right off, and the first thing most exige owners do is buy a softtop and anchors.

Welcome to another inaccurate, amateur article by Noah Joseph. Enthusiast readers kindly point out his obvious mistakes all the time, but he never corrects or updates the story, AOL seems ok with it, so I suppose readers should adjust to him being their resident hack.

Nothing really exciting here. Moving along. Though it should be a good sports car for the few who end up buying it.

The Exige has always been a removeable hardtop. Professional trolling going on here. I had both tops on 07 Exige S. The Exige has always been the hardcore version if the Elise, both available with either or both tops. Next they will have an article on the Elise hardtop trying to be an Exige.

The last generation Exige had a removable roof panel. This new version isn't doing anything different.

The Exige Sport and Cup 260's are incredibly rare, exotic carbon fiber beasts that not only happen to be street legal (the V6 Exige S aren't street legal in US) but also have an ultra light removable carbon fiber roof.are just gorgeous..http://www.britishspeed.com/forum/showthread.php?671-The-comprehensive-Exige-260-Registry
