Speeding kills.

That's the message the New Zealand Transport Agency hopes viewers will take to heart after seeing their latest public service announcement. It serves as a stark reminder of what losing even a little extra reaction time can do.

In the ad, a man speeding down the road sees a car about to pull out in front of him. The two cars freeze as the drivers about to crash speak to one another. The driver about to be T-boned begs the speeding driver to avoid him, but he can't. He's going too fast. The ad ends reminding viewers to slow down. Other drivers make mistakes.

The video has now been viewed over 4 million times since it was posted six days ago. Commenters on the video seem to have taken the message to heart

"Sometimes I make mistakes, which is why I like reminders like this. Very well done," one YouTube user commented. "Driving time is boring time. Please help keep it that way."

"Crawls right under the skin," another posted.

Speeding is something we've all probably done behind the wheel, but speeding can kill. A 2009 National Highway Traffic Safety Administration study found that speed is one of the most prevalent factors in car crashes. In 2007, 31 percent of all fatal crashes were speeding related, resulting in 13,040 fatalities.

People get hit by trains because they are inattentive, as well. Also, I had to "floor it " to avoid an accident once, so speed save me fom an accident, but of course no stats on that because nothing happened.

Been there myself, I've often said "speed doesn't kill its the idiots not paying attention to the road, just doing something plain stupid"

Ummmm duh. That was the point of the clip. Don't speed because others make mistakes and you'll hit them.

The issue is not how swiftly you are moving across the face of the earth the issue is whether or not you have your car UNDER CONTROL!

That doesn't make any sense at all...you either learn to drive defensively or you die.

which walker didn't. You ALWAYS have multiple options, you don't have to ram the other car.

My daughter lost her Dad when she was 4 and he was 26 from a drunk driver. He was the drunk driver and took another man with him. So many people paid for this. The parents of the man with him, my husbands parents and our daughter. We all need to stop and think before we push that pedal to the floor, texting , making phone calls, drinking, eating. We all lost someone that day and it could have happened when our daughter was in that car. I thank God everyday that she was not with him. It never goes away, the guilt or the pain of loss of someone you love. Little kids that do not understand death and why daddy or mommy is never coming home again. Everyone needs to stop and remember that we have a responsibilty to drive safely. Always in a hurry, always a few minutes late, or always on the phone or texting, Anyone caught breaking driving laws deserves the book to be thrown at them. 2nd speeding ticket ? Jail time. DUI jail time and rehab the first time, We need to turn this around before more kids die for stupid reasons.
