In the world of console racing games, Forza Motorsport 5 is the prettiest title money can buy. If these screenshots are to be believed, though, it's only a matter of time before there's a new claim to that throne. These images are from Project CARS, a crowd-funded racing title set to arrive on the Sony Playstation 4, Microsoft XBox One, Nintendo Wii U and on PC later in 2014.

And no, before you ask, these are not special renderings. Slightly Mad Studios, the group behind Project CARS, claims that these images are directly from the game and haven't been touched up in any way. That's incredible.

In fact, some of these images are downright uncanny in the way they look. Still, there are some rough edges, particularly in the video below. But with a lot of time before Slightly Mad is due to deliver a finished product, we suspect that the few issues we see will be ironed out. If they can do that, Project CARS could really shake up the world of racing games. Hop up top for an expansive gallery of in-game images, and then down below for a short video, also from in the game.

Graphics look wonderful But the physics seem a bit wonky. The rear end of most of these cars seem to wobble around corners, rather than follow the front end. And crashing damage is a bit weird (But I don't think any racing game has this right just yet).

Why is it through every list I've seen there is not one single Chevy car listed to be featured in this game?

It's a shame that racing games are still made by beginners and amateurs. There have been no significant improvements in racing games since the year 2000.

Nothing new here, next gen games running on super high-end PC's. Call me when this is actually what it looks like running on PS4 & XB1 hardware.

i have a middleclass PC and the game runs perfectly fine on full details. you can be sure this game in this quality WILL look like this on PS4 at least. not sure abt XBox though.

well just because you settled for 2nd rate hardware, does not mean the rest of us can enjoy the realize. Just like the fools that are pissed BF4 runs like **** on their 9 year old Xbox 360.... Yes PC's are more expensive, but their utility continues to prove their worth. Not to mention, why would anyone NOT want to run on the system the game was created with??

No doubt a very solid effort, but it still isn't up to Forza or Gran Turismo level yet. I very much look forward to seeing the final version, however. The more racing sims, the better.

Considering that the video clearly stated that all footage was from pre-alpha stage gameplay, I'd say they have some time before we can judge whether it's Forza or GT4.75 (5 was just a gussied up 4, with a few new cars, and 6 is a patch for 5 they wanted to charge full price for) level or not.

The proof is in the crashes.

Yeah.. the physics look a little weird. That's what bugs me about Forza - it's just not quite right. I love that you can feel drop throttle over steer at the right place in the right car in GT.

I believe you are right. GT6 physics are quite a bit more sophisticated than both, Forza 5 and pCARS
