Happy New Year's Eve! As we're all gearing up to celebrate the dawn of 2014, the team at Autoblog has a very important message for our readers: Don't drink and drive. This is sound advice for the other 364 days of the year, but it's especially important tonight, when everyone and their brother is going to be out partying.

If you're heading out for a night on the town, it's very important to have a designated driver. If you don't have a friend that's willing to volunteer, though, there are a number of alternatives to attempting to snag a traditional cab. Fleets of cars will be available through the latest trend in getting home safely: ride-sharing apps. Apps like Uber, Lyft and Sidecar are all going to be at the ready to get you home safely from the bar. While it's difficult to put a price on avoiding a DUI, The Wall Street Journal has stepped in with a comparison between the three largest car-sharing services.

This comparo includes a list of cities each service is available in, as well as helping revelers navigate the notorious surge pricing each service institutes on the busiest of evenings (hint, prices are highest between 12:15 and 3:00 am). If you're planning on heading out tonight, you'll want to take the time to read this piece from the WSJ. Happy 2014, and be safe tonight.
