As comedian and car guy Adam Carolla walks around to the back of the SRT Viper right before it's started up, Ralph Gilles, President and CEO of SRT, says, "It's got side exhausts there big guy."

Getting the Viper TA lowdown Carolla-style is one reason you should watch his latest CarCast video (head here for our First Drive review), but Gilles also gives some good insight into some of the Viper's less-obvious features - and we get to see the car with the hood up. It's hard to imagine how large the 8.4-liter V10 is until you see it stuffed back behind the front axle with the carbon-fiber X-brace bolted over it.

Head below to watch the nearly nine-minute Viper TA CarCast.

I love the Vette but I think the Viper would offer a more visceral experience.

Am I the only that thinks Adam knows only what he read in the brochure 5 minutes before they started rolling?

How were people asking for this guy to be part of Top Gear it's beyond me. I probably have a more enjoyable time just watching a video of this Viper seating in an Autoshow or something.

Just another example of Carolla being a dunce.

Small correction, it seems that Matt actually says the comment about the exhaust, sorry for being "that guy".

The "way behind" must mean something different to them than me. The front cylinder is at most 6 inches behind the axle centerline (not behind the axle counting its diameter) and it looks like the timing belt cover may not be behind the axle at all. And it's really hard to hear anyone call a car like this mid-engined. Mid-engined isn't just about getting low moment of polar inertia around the center axis. When you steer a car, the front end moves laterally more than the rear. So getting the mass backward in the car means when you change steering angle it generates less force on the front wheels. That makes the car "darty". This car, with the mass in front of the driver, is not going to feel that way, even with 50-50 weight distribution. It sounds nicer than it used to, less like a UPS truck and more like a race car. Too bad it only runs a few seconds. Anyone else find it strange that the pics of the engine bay are not from this filming, but other shots edited in and zoomed slightly to make it look like a moving camera took them? Maybe the lighting on the engine was poor in this room or something.

You missed a key word .. "Front mid-engined" .. Not just "mid-engined" Otherwise I agree, it certainly will not drive like a mid-engined car and nobody alluded to that.

"Real" mid engine cars dont even have 50/50 weight distribution, it's typically rear biased between 45/55 and 40/60 distribution. Not as heavily rear biased as a rear engine on or behind the rear axle (think porsche 911, about 33/67), but not 50/50.

Actually sounds like the Viper TA is relatively easy to push.
