The latest video from the crew at Petrolicious covers one funky Swede - a 1989 Saab 900 SPG. Produced from 1978 to 1998, the 900 enjoyed a long history, and thanks to its iconic look, it's quickly becoming a modern classic for the off-kilter car enthusiast. The SPG, short for Special Performance Group, makes this a particularly rare find, with owner Jordan Melville saying, "I didn't even realize what I had at the time."

Melville gives a rundown of his life with the 900 and his passion for Saab overall, even reflecting on that dark day that saw the Swedish brand closed its doors. As always, the videography is excellent and the story is intriguing in this latest video from Petrolicious. You can view the entire video down below.

great story. Saabs are wicked fast and great handlers for a FWD platform. 900 SPG was one of the greats, as well as the 99 Turbo.

SAAB is like this, either you were in it or you aint. I was, and the SPG was a thing of a beauty.

900 Turbo coupe is one of my favorite cars of all time. Its rare to find a modern car with such individuality and character. Pre-GM Saab's were great because no matter the model o vintage, you knew they were Saab's. RIP indeed.

My first car was a 1986 Saab 900s. Built like a tank and great to drive.

Built like a tank? These things are pieces of ****. Yes, they look neat but they're a money pitt that will steal your paychecks.

I went to university with a guy named Matt who had just bought a 900s. I remember grocery store runs in that thing.

Just about 10,000x over I would rather have a 1989 Audi Quattro 20V. Saabs are quirky, 5cyl Audis are just bad ass.

I had a 91 900T 16v convertible for years, it was so much fun, expensive to maintain though, awesome car, fast and precise, build very good, I regretted I sold it, but good Saab mechanics are a rarity, I had Audis and BMWs and are so much cheaper to maintain

I've owned - a '83 900, '87 900T, and a 9-5. The 900T had a SPG ECU in it (red box). That car was a blast to drive. Off the line a vw beetle could smoke it, but when that turbo kicked in it would snap your head back and you had to hold on for dear life. Best memory was having a 911 pull up to me on the highway, I pinned the needle past a buck 20, when we finally came to our senses and waved a friendly goodby. Good memories.

I have always lusted after the 900 SPG just b/c the look is so iconic. Almost bought one but the private seller set off my byer-beware senses like no other... The 'verts are nice too. Hated the 9000...
