Our first drive of the 2014 Cadillac CTS was just published today... we really liked the Vsport version. And Consumer Reports has some even stronger words of praise for the all-new luxury sedan. We already knew that Cadillac had stepped up its game with the third-gen CTS, but CR bluntly states that the sedan drives better than its German luxury counterparts.

While CR shows plenty of love for the new CTS, the outlet still takes issue with some of the in-car technology including the CUE infotainment system – no surprise there. The testers' offer all manner of positive comments where the impressive handling capabilities of the sedan are concerned, with lots of drifting around CR's private test facility in evidence to bear them out. Scroll down to watch the CTS get put through its paces.

Since Cadillac is getting so much flak about CUE, it would be awesome if they could replace it with an Android-based or iOS-based modular system that is totally compatible/configurable to android/apple phones and can accept and utilize apps. That way, the system won't be obsolete in a month....as Android/iOS receives updates, so does the car. Use your phone to set preferences in climate, driver positions, etc. Download apps that can change the configuration of the digital instrument cluster or maybe allow for real time updates on speed camera locations. This could be a game changer, with the right interface, of course...

CUE is updated as well. The last update was a big one so it had to be done at the dealer, but Cadillac plans OTA updates through Onstar. Especially when their cars switch to AT&T's network with LTE.

I'd go a step further. I want complete OS agnosticism. Just provide APIs and let everyone make their own interfaces.

Consumer Reports is a great source of information if you are buying a new refrigerator, or a toaster. The metrics they use to judge cars are not aligned with what most car enthusiasts would consider to be important. No knock on CR, cause that's what they do. CR's reviews of "luxury" and "performance" therefore should be taken with a big grain of salt.

And the Impala uses the same platform, and rated that pretty good too-I\'d go w/ that-roomier interior and will tow a load. Cad is too low and swoopy and cramped (kinda like Buick) and probably won\'t tow anything,

It's the XTS that shares platforms with the Impala, not the CTS. CTS is based on Alpha RWD, as with the smaller ATS.

Where do you get your information from??? Cadillac CTS - ALPHA platform (REAR wheel drive) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Alpha_platform Chevrolet Impala - EPSILON platform (FRONT wheel drive) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Epsilon_platform#Super_Epsilon See the difference?

If I was trying to sculpt a 1990's Honda Accord with a hammer and chisel, I believe this thing would be the final result after a couple coats of paint.

I know, right? I mean, it's not like the day an embargo breaks on a hotly anticipated model a car blog would run, uh, *two* articles on it without getting a kickback. Obviously, the should only cover the cars you like.

when CR loves Lexus says its better than the rest you all hate CR and tell them they don't know **** but now they love the CTS and they are GOD

'God/El/Yahweh' is a made-up creature of Canaanite mythology, adapted by Jews then Christians. In 4,000 years of tales credited to the guy he has not appeared as himself even once. On the other hand, CR IS real. You can even see their employees, their offices/facilities, etc. Nah, I don't think I'd call them a 'god'. They're better than a god.

You came to Autoblog to try to spark some theological debate? Seriously? I think you have the wrong forum. We all just want to chat about cars.

I was thinking the same thing. Whenever CR gave Lexus praise, people here were saying how CR must be accepting bribes. Now that they like the CTS, nobody here is talking about bribery.

GM has brought Cadillac back from the dead. The brand is light years from where it was in 1999. Lincoln is so far behind Cadillac now that it isn't even a race. Lincoln competes with Buick while Cadillac competes with BMW and Audi.

THe biggest problems with the smaller ATS were a seat that's basically useless and a rock hard ride and I have doubts those have been addressed here. For one there's now less leg room in the back than the outgoing model which wasen't exactly a 70's town car and those seat bottoms are hilariously thin. And second it seems to be telling that none of the tests released today were done on public roads or it seems any roads at all that have even a modicum of imperfections. If that's indeed the case then I'll have to wait and save up even more for the flagship model or hope chryslerChrysler doesn't mess up the next gen 300c, as the last real american car left.
