Nature abhors a vacuum, and so does a management structure – especially at an automaker. So less than a week after Mercedes-Benz announced the retirement of sales chief Joachim Schmidt and the promotion of AMG boss Ola Källenius to fill his place comes the announcement of the new AMG chief.
The role now falls to one Tobias Moers, who has been with AMG since 1994 – long before Daimler took it over. Moers took over AMG's principal model line in 1999 and all automotive development in 2002, so he's as well versed in the outfit's operations and products as anyone could be. He'll officially take the helm on October 1, just as Källenius moves into his new job. Scroll down below for the official announcement.

Tobias Moers to be new Chief Executive of AMG
Stuttgart/Affalterbach, Sep 06, 2013

The Board of Management of Daimler AG has appointed Tobias Moers (47) as the new Chief Executive of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. In this position, he will be the successor as of October 1, 2013 to Ola Källenius, who will become the new Head of Sales & Marketing at Mercedes-Benz Cars as of the same date.

Prof. Dr. Thomas Weber, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG for Group Research and Development Mercedes-Benz Cars: "Tobias Moers has gasoline in his veins. With his technical expertise and enthusiasm for high-performance automobiles, he has made an important contribution to the success of our high-performance brand in recent years. He is an out-and-out AMG man who has helped shaping the brand for nearly 20 years now."

Moers was born in Freiburg in 1966 and has been active for Mercedes-AMG since 1994, where he first worked in various development positions. In 1999, he assumed overall responsibility for the main AMG model series. Tobias Moers has been in charge of complete automobile development since 2002 and has been a member of the executive board of Mercedes-AMG GmbH since 2011.
Moers will succeed to Ola Källenius, who will become Head of Sales & Marketing of Mercedes-Benz Cars as of the same date. Källenius takes over that position from Dr. Joachim Schmidt, who will retire at the end of this year.
